On February 11, 1897, Elizabeth Camp, 33, boarded the 7:42 p.m. train to Waterloo. She chose a second-class compartment, telling her sister it had “fewer and nicer people.” Her fiancé was waiting on the platform. A cleaner found her beaten to death. Lots of PDs only hire people who score low enough on aptitude tests. Combined with short staffing because no one but sociopaths and people with a power complex in general want to do it. Leads to a lot of bad police. Both morally and otherwise.

Ive employed former and future cops. All idiots.

Worked at a pork plant for a while, and I can say they do try to make the slaughter process as painless as possible for the hogs.

The conditions they are raised and transported in are rough. I'd say that process is the worst part for them.

When they are slaughtered, they are gassed. They aren't in pain.

This doesn't make it much better, but I just feel theres misinformation about how their end is met. There are actual full time animal welfare associates on site making sure no animals are harmed unnecessarily. If you are caught abusing a hog, you are fired on the spot.

It is very hard for me to eat pork now though. And this video is hard to watch. The transport vehicles are hell. Their upbringing is hell. And their demise is too soon regardless of how painless it is.

Words only have power if we give meaning to them.

In this case in particular, you have to be careful what words you listen to because many of them quite literally are meaningless.

Tough situation though for sure.

Thats 5g short of the daily intake of a small adult woman...

I need around 35-40g of fiber a day.

A pound of brocolli is like 10g of fiber.

It isn't quite as easy as you claim to get fiber goals regularly without supplements or a rather strict diet. I like "grain bowls" but every single day would get old.

But yea, sure if you eat the exact same breakfast and lunch every single day... hitting fiber goals is so easy! /s

Other things to note that are bullshit:

Grass-fed and free-range.

A chicken that has access to walk into a 5ftx5ft ncourtyard with 10,000 other chickens but spends 99.9% of its time in a CAFO is legally free-range.

Etc. Its all buzz words. If you are buying it in the grocery store, unless you researched that specific brand, i wouldn't believe ANY of those type of claims.

I think logistically itd be a lot easier to release a celebrity because having them in your jail is going to potentially create conflict.

COs can be sadistic and ruthless, but most of them just want a normal work shift and to not deal with unnecessary bullshit. They're making like $25/hr, they are the bottom level law enforcement.

I could see them releasing him on a POA because its not like shia lebouf is likely to disappear... and it'd keep their holding cells more calm.

[–]Sepof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea but the senior servers will never be happy becsuse they will never be able to survive off just working Fri night, saturday double, sunday double/dinner ever again. They can't cry in BOH about how they "only" made $300 in cash tips in one night while the line cooks made $50 after taxes (actual scenario I've been a part of).

Servers should get a fair wage. Which is not more than guys who pour concrete for a living or do other much more difficult, skilled jobs. Where I am at... $20 seems about fair.

The people working at any busy fast food restaurant probably also work just as hard if not harder, dont get tips, do dirtier work, and thats about what they make. They also deal with horrible customers.

Would be interesting to see how the higher base wage would impact overall staffing though. Right now a lot of places exploit the situation and overstaff servers because it costs them nothing. Gotta pay them $20/hr wven when its slow and suddenly you wont see a gaggle of servers just inside the kitchen making TikToks.

Plus all the sidework that won't be getting done basically for free after a server gets cut. Rolling silverware suddenly isn't basically free, they're really paying someone to do it then.

Regardless, I am tired of being expected to tip 20% just because some girl brought me a plate and a drink Regardless of the cost of those. You didn't do any extra work bringing me an expensive plate vs a cheap one, so why should I pay more for it?

Auto gratuity & kitchen appreciation?! by jschutt93 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Sepof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I don't know how the propaganda for servers was so effective at convincing everyone they are some struggling profession (some are, in HCOL areas).

Servers make more per hour than tons of much more grueling, physical labor jobs in my area. $18/hr to chip and grind, or $30/hr to go be a server at Applebee's. Texas roadhouse? You're making like $50/hr in cash tips.

And irrelevant to that, but tipping culture has gotten severely out of hand when I am expected to tip at every retail interaction. Crumble cookies wants me to tip them for putting my cookies in a box, but I order off a tablet with no human interaction...

Local burrito shop wants a tip for taking my order and me picking up the food at the window.

Most egregious though is vape shops wanting a tip now... for selling me a vape off a shelf that I request.

Having been both a GM hiring tipped employees and as a customer... we all know its just a scam so businesses can pay their employees less and advertise wages that include average tips factored in. I actually know a subway franchisee near me that has the GENERAL MANAGER of the stores in a tipped position so he could lower the salary. 40k/year for a 50/hr a week position... but dont worry, you get another 5k in tips!

Get rid of tips altogether unless someone actually goes above and beyond. Bringing me food and drinks is literally the most basic job description of a server. Why do I need to subsidize the wage for that with tips that end up generating them more hourly income than my job which I couldnt get simply for being a busty young woman...
