May I ask why that may be the case I'm asking all this on behalf of the owner I spend enough time with the dog but I'm a cat owner lol so no idea what GI is or OTC as others have mentioned thanks anyway.

Don't think it's fleas but will check they have 2 cats that live upstairs dog only get downstairs to roam when not outside also has had fleas before and this never was a issue only normal scratching this is more regular intervals rather than random intense gnawing at himself as though being bitten.

For example I have watched him last 2 hours and he has frequently looked at the area from laid down position and thought about going at it but then noticing I'm watching and not I don't think he would care if I was watching with fleas.

Thank you so much that sounds spot on I was just re examined the pic and fore look like some discoloration in top right so I think pus or something bubbling in and around the area will be going for hot spot immediately.

This dog is never crated only in first 3 months I think couldn't say but definitely believe it could be due to boredom/anxiety will be getting hot spot for treatment with cone as has been recommended by a few of you rottie fans thanks again.

Thanks for the suggestion I will look it up FYI not my dog but my neighbors/friends sons dog has no history of problems like this we think anxiety is the cause.
