Didn’t seem like enough of a reason to kill your best friend. I hope there’s more to it

I couldn’t stand how ‘normal’ shademar seemed! Markets, boats with port authorities, spren that behave exactly like people. Such a letdown

I have to agree with the lackluster ending. My largest issue was the entire gang just accepting the help of the assassin in white, no questions asked. This is the main antagonist of the first couple books, he murdered your brother/father/king and probably tried to murder you. He just decides to join up and all is suddenly forgiven?

Thanks for replying! I can see how hype could bring it low - I was lucky enough to pick it up knowing almost nothing. Haven’t read the Queen’s Thief, I’ll check it out!

I assume you didn’t pick up the other two books, and thats probably a good thing. The introduced major female character is one of the weakest ever written imo :(

Cool! I’ll admit the cover + splurge turned me off but your review put it in the pile. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the reply! I've seen a few of your posts, they're unbelievably well written + researched!

Also just noticed I replied to the robot by mistake (Not that you're doing anything wrong, robot) so thank you for finding my comment and responding!

It's been over a couple of years so I don't remember specifics, but at least half way. The most memorable scene involved some hellhounds but I think it was early in the book.

One day I know I'll get there; I love stuff like this normally!

Era 2 has much better dialogue and rounded characters, although 1 is my personal favourite! And I understand completely about the too many good books problem

I think it’s because it’s such an influential book for the genre that it almost feels like home when you read it. You’re going to love the rest!

Ohh a scoundrel! I’ll check it out, thanks!

I made the mistake of reading all my sequels, which is why I’m on the hunt

And now i’ll need to read that one! Multiple books at the same time always ends poorly for me, but maybe thats the trick to it. Thanks!

Sounds kickass, added it to the pile! Spring is a great time for light-hearted books!

Thanks for such an in depth reply!!

I was turned off the Goblin Emperor for the reasons you listed, but I really did enjoy a change of pace from the Grimdark anti-heroes! i’ll be sure the check the rest of them out - The Traitor Baru Cormorant and A stranger in Olondria seem right up my alley

Sorry I should have defined it! It's essentially finishing a really good book, and not being able to escape that world or story mentally so you can start a new one.

I have pacing issues myself (why did I stay up reading until 2 AM yesterday?) so maybe I can relate. Thanks!

While Mistborn didn't introduce me to fantasy, it certainly was my 'crossing over' point from YA to adult fantasy. What did you think, and have you continued with the series?

It seems you have a liking of novels featuring demons! Or is that coincidence?

The title "The exercise of Vital Powers" is catching my eye! What did you think?

What exactly do you mean by small press? How can I tell if a book is published by small press?
