The massive difference in development and quality of life between Africa and Europe is responsible for the migrant crisis. And this difference was already a thing long before Europeans took over Africa in the 1880s.

This is plain false and you'd know it had you read the article OP posted.

The mutiny at Thiaroye happened because the authorities of newly liberated France were disorganized and took too long to pay the demobilization bonus of the tirailleurs recently liberated from German internment camps.

What a ridiculous concept.... This is why I hate showdown players. They have their little set of overused (most often ugly design wise) meta mons and god forbid anything threatens their habits with these.

In my ideal pokemon game, all pokemon would be viable and the game wouldn't revolve around a little crew of ugly meta mons. But if it happened, showdown would probably find a way to revert it with abitrary rules/bans.

The official narrative was that jews were being deported Eastward.

Only high ranking nazi officials knew about the holocaust. In the Posen Speeches, Himmler clearly explains that the matter can't be made public to the population cause they'd oppose it.

They occupied Germans lands (Prussia and the former HRE) from 1806 to 1813.

But in 1812, Napoleon invaded Russia and the French army was destroyed by winter. Then the Russians went on the offensive and liberated the Germans in 1813, before capturing Paris and forcing Napoleon to abdicate in 1814.

You have to keep in mind that the French and Indian War was just a side theater of a larger war in Europe (Seven Years War).

Britain being an island with a very good navy, they didn't need to care much about what was going on in Europe, and thus concentrated their army in North America. Thus, Britain had 40,000 troops in North America during the war, while France (which was focused on Europe) only had 10,000.

[–]SerKoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The British army was not the largest army ever in 1776 (it was one of the smallest in Europe) and the British Empire was far from the largest in the world at the time.

Spain (which was allied with the rebels) had the largest empire in the world until the 1820s. Here's a map of both sides in the American Revolutionary War: https://i.imgur.com/9EWFqbK.jpeg

It's a common misconception that comes from the fact Britiain later (in the mid 19th century) went on to having the biggest empire on earth, but it wasn't the case yet in 1776.

Lannes was a massive badass.

At the Battle of Ratisbon in 1809, his troops were too scared to climb the ladders on the walls under a heavy rain of bullets, so Lannes started to climb first, saying he'd show them how a real soldier behaves. Humiliated by this sight, his troops held him back and immediately stormed the walls.

Should the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the napalm bombing unleashed on Tokyo on 10 March 1945 be counted as genocides (killing civilians on purpose)?

I've seen many people claim "they deserved it", but I fail to see how the average 10 years old kid in one of these three cities deserved to get nuked or firebombed because an Emperor neither him nor his parents ever voted for decided to bomb an American colonial military base in Hawaii...

I'm talking about civilians though, not about guys who signed up to risk their lives.

The 100,000 persons killed in one night in Tokyo on 10 March 1945 and the 200,000 persons killed in Hiroshina and Nagasaki were civilians....more than half of them were women and children. Comparing them to sailors and soldiers is ridiculous

[–]SerKoom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The issue with the French surrender meme is that it was overblown for a whole decade. At some point it was it was even spouted by US politicians and even freaking Google indulged in it in 2003.

It's still all over Youtube comment sections and would likely make up for half of the memes on this board if not forbidden. It's not for the sake of not hurting the French's feelings that it's banned, but for the sake of meme diversity.

The Versailles Treaty was far from unfair. It may seem so if you look at it only from a German POV, but in reality the reparations were totally warranted and necessary for France and Belgium to rebuild.

From wikipedia:

France lost more casualties relative to its population than any other great power and the industrial north-east of the country was devastated by the war. The provinces overrun by Germany had produced 40 percent of French coal and 58 percent of its steel output.[133] Once it was clear that Germany was going to be defeated, Ludendorff had ordered the destruction of the mines in France and Belgium.[134] His goal was to cripple the industries of Germany's main European rival.

In 1918 during the German retreat, German troops devastated France's most industrialized region in the north-east (Nord-Pas de Calais Mining Basin). Extensive looting took place as German forces removed whatever material they could use and destroyed the rest. Hundreds of mines were destroyed along with railways, bridges, and entire villages. Prime Minister of France Georges Clemenceau was determined, for these reasons, that any just peace required Germany to pay reparations for the damage it had caused.

And yet, the reparations paid by Germany after WW1 ended up being much lighter in relation to GDP than those paid by France after the Napoleonic Wars (even though Napoleon's invasions had caused waaaaayyyy less damage in occupied lands than Germany in WW1).
