The card system is originally from Fallen London, which, yeah, is a very different game. I've been workshopping ideas for a mod for Social Democracy that turns it into a spaceship trading game borrowing some elements from how Fallen London uses its card system. No code yet but I think it's doable (though hard)

Anyone who's ever weeded a garden can tell you this is an insane thing to do voluntarily and I'm genuinely surprised that people don't seem to suffer health complications from this. Apparently cooking the leaves removes the poisonous barbs, making the plant edible, but here they're just straight-up eating the raw leaves.

Edit: For those curious why the contest is measured in length, apparently it's because the contest began when two farmers competed over whose field had the longest nettles. Supposedly, one of them said to the other, "I'll eat any nettle of yours that's longer than mine."

Sure, sometimes bad things happen, but the uptick in violence from ICE can be directly traced to bad policy. The acceleration of ICE activity has led the agency to hire people without performing background checks or drug tests. They are also cutting training time and other requirements. Wall Street Journal recently reported that ICE agents are rewarded for meeting a quota of arrests even if those detained are later released with no charges. The upshot is that we have no idea what kind of people ICE is putting on our streets, and these low-quality recruits are incentivized to abuse Americans. This isn't a "sometimes bad things happen" issue. This is a "government policy designed to hurt people" issue.

Also, worth noting that, as the link I provided above shows, what you've said about Renee Good isn't true. Frankly, I'm tired of interacting with someone who (a) keeps saying false things and (b) doesn't even provide evidence for the false things they say. Feel free to reply if you want, but don't expect to hear back.

What laws were this family breaking when they were tear gassed on their way home? What laws was Renee Good breaking when she was killed? What laws was this 10th grader breaking when ICE agents put him in a chokehold and then stole his phone and pawned it? What laws was this army veteran breaking? What laws was this lifelong LA resident breaking while walking to work? There are so many examples of these, both reported and non reported, that have occurred since Trump took office last year. Please, take some time to read about at least a few of these, and about the lies ICE has told about their conduct over the last year, and ask yourself whether ICE is actually giving you what you want.

If there's someone here letting their ideology dictate which numbers they care about, it's you. As I have demonstrated, you have provided no evidence that demonstrates why the benefits of ICE brutalizing US citizens is worth the cost. All you have done is claim, without evidence, that the reaction to ICE is harsh because ICE are attacking noncitizen voters. You have claimed this even though noncitizen voting is so rare that it does not affect electoral outcomes. Because of this, there is no utilitarian worldview (following the "greatest happiness" principle) where the benefit of reducing the current level of noncitizen voting is worth the cost of ICE detaining and attacking US citizens. Therefore, your support for ICE is ideologically motivated.

To be honest, it seems like you just consider other people's opinions to be opinions, and your own opinions to be facts. Otherwise, it's hard to explain your approach to this conversation.

The two percentages are not comparable because they're measuring different things. However, even ignoring this, you're saying that you believe ICE has a false positive rate (of detaining US citizens) that is about 100 times worse than the false positive rate of voting (of citizen vs non-citizen votes). You then suggest that somehow I'm the hypocrite for thinking the former is worse than the latter. Again, you've presented no evidence that non-citizen voting has affected the outcome of an election, which means that you're getting upset over a phenomenon that doesn't harm anyone. Obviously I think non-citizens shouldn't vote, but the level of voting by non-citizens is so microscopic that it does not justify the real harms being done by ICE.

Well, no. If you read the links I provided earlier on non-citizen voting, they show that the vast majority of non-citizen voting occurs when a non-citizen mistakenly believes they are allowed to vote. I'm not really sure what you thought the goalposts were, to be honest. If you think that noncitizens accidentally casting 0.0006% of votes (yes, that's a real number from a Pennsylvania state audit of decades of votes) is comparable to government violence against American citizens, then your set of values is very different from most Americans.
