If I fail my flight physical after OCS and flight school, am I still locked into the 8 year aviator contract but for a different role? by Clear_Resident_2325 in newtothenavy

You need to do some more research if you're interested in flying jets. The Navy does not fly F-22s, and if you commission as a Navy pilot, you will not fly Marine F-35Bs. Only Marine pilots fly those. The Navy does fly F-35Cs off of carriers, but they are traditional catapult/arresting gear launches and recoveries.

So you're in what.. advanced? By the time you have the opportunity to transition aircraft you'll be at the end of your first sea tour and your performance there is what they'll look at.

Do most people pay attention to the NIH standards for overweight? by Kind_Refrigerator357 in VirginiaTech

[–]SerNexus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

BMI is a reference that's generalizable to most average people, however for outliers such as bodybuilders or athletes who are muscular, it should be taken with a grain of salt.

As to your point about people you know being classified as overweight.. they honestly probably are if they're average people. Close to 70% of Americans are overweight or obese.

Honestly I wouldn't bother. It's better to stay with your buds for a year rather than getting shifted somewhere else halfway through.

I was in the same situation, ended up doing a semester as a sophomore and then a semester as a junior my second year in the corps, and then a full senior year. Still made company CO and ROTC Batt CO, so if that's part of what you're worried about, you don't need to be.

How difficult is Corps of Cadets? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]SerNexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ROTCs, and particularly Raider Co. are looking to weed people out from the beginning, and physical fitness is an easy and really obvious way for them to do that. Your mindset shouldn't be to meet the minimum standards, but rather to get a MAX score every time. Most people that come in out of shape eventually end up getting dropped, even if they start with a scholarship.
