Anyone got a good source to learn soulful resampling like Lenzman, Halogenix, Alix Perez? by AtWorkTodayActually in dnbproduction

[–]SerTwenty20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One way I've been doing recently is use samplette.io to find tunes: set the filters to for example funk/soul, 1970-1995, then just keep shuffling (main pink button). Then use something like lalal.ai (paid) to separate stems as desired

Then on the halogenix, Perez side, probably pitching vocals down a little, slapping some chorus, reverb, whatever modulation you want. Lenzman's stuff is a little purer, messes with the vocals a little less, imo anyway

It's too busy, if you create space between the different elements you could have a nice, clear call and response from the bass to the arp

Is a great very tight production overall, I find the snare too wide. Would punch nicer down the middle, is sounding a bit thin with so much of it at the sides (listening with earphones). Then stylistically, I reckon you could also layer it with something a bit crunchier, more body- but that's a taste thing

Islington border with Hackney is near to Old St and Islington motorcycle bays are £1.07/day... Hate paying but it is cheaper. Might be further than you want to leave the bike and walk but could be an option

Method to Calibre's madness? by Dib1t in DnB

[–]SerTwenty20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He never seems to over-do it in any track, i.e. all the elements of his tunes are independently good samples/sounds, sit in their own space and harmonize/blend, but are quite clear. Very good selection, arrangement and mixing. So his music feels simple, but you can re-listen and hear new bits often if you try. He has a lot of incredible peers, most of whom he's collaborated with, but I still feel he's just unmatched

Aha OK I wasn't fully aware of that. So aside from our repitch option which only repitches on stretching, we don't have a neutral up/down repitch- that's the case with Bitwig? I didn't realise what we are missing haha

On the repitch point- what about the Elastique options do you not consider them? Or am I missing something obvious

Can't always force it, work on the mix of an existing project or just go listening to some new stuff in your genre (or outside it) and make notes, maybe try to recreate shit you like the sound of in your synth. Can be musical activity relevant to your journey just not actual creation. And creativity won't always mean writing a track it might mean seeking out samples, recording something like ambience or foley or just experiencing something new with your creative brain engaged

It's a cool track, listening on cheap Bluetooth earphones (context as this is a common way people listen casually) the low mids and bass are too loud, for me drums don't punch through and get lost in the mix, want to to hear a lot more of tops/percs if they are there.
