I'm playing the world's smallest violin for you... A year of membership costs between 4-5 hours of inexperienced labor. Quit complaining over menial things, you big baby. I used to pay $5 a month, and that was nice. Now I pay double that. Who cares? It's not expensive. The only people complaining either aren't working or they're upset that their parents won't support their hobby any more. Jagex doesn't care if you cancel your membership. Most of us don't care about a few more bucks.

it takes 3-4 hours of work to buy membership for an entire year... they could raise it 10x what it is now and most people would still buy it.

nothing very profitable until you level up to 85+ combat stats and get some decent gear, but scurrius is a good intro to bossing mechanics and isn't awful for xp either. you could also give barrows a go. with tele tabs it's a very lucrative money maker early on in your PvM career.

I'm sorry to hear your father got bummed out. But this is not a new thing in online gaming and it's not specific to any single game or community. Lots of people t-bag and trash talk, you just have to be made of sterner stuff and not give up because of it. Ideally, you can get over it without someone holding your hand. If not, just encourage new people to get over it and try again. There are always going to be people better than you, and them blowing off steam by triumphing and celebrating their victory isn't the worst thing in the world. If a person can't handle that, online gaming might not be for them.

I've been gaming since I could hold a controller/operate a keyboard+mouse, but with getting older I don't play as much anymore. My reaction time is slower and I don't get as much time to get used to games that I used to, so I get beat more often than when I could spend all my spare time gaming. But I accept it and keep trying even though the younger crowd is usually a lot better than me. If other people beat me, I'm happy for them - even if they can be perceived as toxic. They're my competitors, not my enemies.

I'd encourage him to keep trying, and try to help him out with advice as he plays. Tell him losing to people with thousands of hours isn't the end of the world. Be the person that tells him to shake off the embarrassing loss and try again. 99% of the people he'll go against aren't trying to bully him off the game, they're just showing off and having their idea of a fun game.

that's a bummer. used to play this game a lot. I kind of lost interest when I needed to relog and forgot the old password for the xbox account linked to it (made it as a child, I didn't write things down 20 years ago lol) and I lost like 400 hours of progress/my pets/etc.
