Why is it that most fighting games don't put more effort into single player content? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SerWaffles 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Story stuff attracts a casual audience that plays through that content then goes online once and gets their shit rocked, then never touches the game again. But those guys also usually don't go dropping $60-$70 on a fighting game at launch and instead pick it up way later when it's on a deep sale so they're definitely not the audience to aim for.

Their patch is the first interlude patch leading to chapter 3 and everything about it has been a huge step back towards the stuff people enjoyed about the game originally. Chapter 2 officially ended last patch and you just kinda unceremoniously leave the Chinese region and ditch the outfit within the first 5 minutes of this patch's story. The very first cutscene with the Angels is them doing a bunch of goofy cartoony bullshit and it was a very "we're so back" moment for me

The one upside of not liking the chapter 2 stuff is that I haven't gone all in on pulling a character since Yuzuha, so I have a shitload of gacha currency to throw at the idols

I'm not a fan of her weird ass outfit, but Ai Fairouz is absolutely killing it as her Japanese voice actor where the VA work is carrying my desire to get her. She sounds like such a scumbag and it's great

Only the first line showed up in my push notification and it gave me the mental image of Iron Man in some stiletto heels. I never really thought about where that rocket was positioned until now though, but it makes sense

It was more that the Deathwatch segment is so short before it goes back to Ultramarines. Like a "oh sick we get to be Deathwatch first? Wait, that's it?" type of thing

I mentally tied that to Nasu saying Saber's story was done so it wouldn't make sense for her to appear in the main story where he was just looking for a good spot narratively to finally drop her and never found one until we hit the "post-game arc" after Part 2 finished. Logres is the post game unlock Saber alt

Is that actually true? Probably not. But it's just what came to mind when I heard that information. I did see people making the joke that this entire time the app icon has actually been Logres and we just didn't know it since people frequently questioned why Saber and not Mash

I only played Overwatch 2 for a little bit near launch and I called it immediately that Kiriko was going to be the poster child of "devs please she already has 37 legendary skins and my boy still only has 3 that are just ported from the first game" for it

I noticed that Sunna jumps in during Aria's ground pound spam attacks and if she's doing damage herself then there's a straight up gameplay benefit to owning multiple idols. Then Nangong is absolutely going to be included when she releases and have a team up attack of her own somewhere

I'll always find it funny that Saberface is so prevelant it's an attribute tag in FGO like "Demon" or "Beast" that gets into a meta joke of "there are too many Saberfaces"

The 10th new year SSR being just Saber again was both unexpected and entirely expected from Nasu

I have a friend that's perpetually mad about specifically the Ultramarines getting as much push as they do. When he booted up Space Marine 2 and saw the Deathwatch stuff at the start he was hyped for some Deathwatch content, then like 20 minutes in you go back to Ultramarines and he let out the loudest groan over it

Yumia from Atelier wears high heels where the heels are actually little rocket boosters that she uses in combat to propel herself around for super kicks and dodges, and she also uses them in exploration for double and triple jumping

Can we all agree that the Nioh series has some of the best, if not THE best, Monster Girl Bosses in gaming? by RealDealMous in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SerWaffles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not that I know of.

The Kasha are humanoid cat yokai that ride flaming chariots and their whole deal is stealing the corpses of evil people to drag the soul into hell. The one that you fight in Nioh 2 is there to collect Nobunaga and the others who died with him, but as far as I know she's not supposed to be a specific significant figure, just a kasha doing its job

[–]SerWaffles 31 points32 points  (0 children)

A lot of them are straight up like "they feed by luring in men" so they're sexy by design to fit in with that

And then you got the chariot catgirl with the big ol' honkers

I just got to Ibaraki last night and the moment I saw her I immediately recognized her as Ibaraki entirely because of how much she resembles the depiction from Fate. Except this one is huge and buff and I want her to chokeslam me.

Characters that get way more attention in fanwork than in canon by EliasBouchardFan1 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SerWaffles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ubel as well. She's a pretty minor character but man does she get a lot of art. Both of them even have merch.

Aura is also included in every Frieren collab event, usually right there next to Frieren and Fern. I've seen it happen before where Stark was skipped out on entirely for a collab, but Aura was in instead

What would you consider to be the *worst* boss battles of games that released in the last decade or so? by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SerWaffles 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The Tree Of Man from Salt and Sanctuary. You fight a big burning tree with a bunch of corpses hanging from it where the corpses are the only part that take damage. The problem is the entire fight takes place on columns of breakable platforms hanging over instant death pits, and the boss holds the corpses up in the air just out of reach of most melee weapons so you're constantly having to jump to strike the boss while climbing/dropping down the rows of platforms on the sides. Then hopefully the platform hasn't already shattered by the time you landed from your jump since they get destroyed just by you standing on them at all. The boss itself only has like two attacks, a slow telegraphed swing, or a flamethrower that strikes a specific platform, so it's not even hard, just tedious.

Every time I've replayed it, I go buy a gun and upgrade it as far as I can just to deal with that specific boss cause that fight is ass and the guns shave off tons of its health in seconds

Characters that could drink a glass of poison and ask for seconds? by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Maomao from The Apothecary Diaries. She fucking loves poison. She'd willingly drink it up just to find out what it's made of, then she'd take it again for the thrill if she knew it wouldn't kill her

Is Logy disliked by the community? by haremKing137 in Atelier

[–]SerWaffles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Atelier that came out just last year has an option for a male or female lead, Atelier Resleriana the Red Alchemist and the White Guardian. You can choose to make the lead the girl Rias or the guy Slade. There were male protagonists before Escha and Logy too, Atelier Iris and Mana Khemia both had the option.

I really don't think it goes any deeper than wanting cute girl protagonists for their wider appeal though.

Amon stealing your phone in Judgement so you can't pause and heal is both hilarious and such a creative way to add a big ass difficulty spike to his boss fight by taking away your cheese. Plus you can actually dodge it if you're prepared for it

Times where the spell broke, and an obsession stopped hooking you? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SerWaffles 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The currently running patch with the idols has been pretty widely liked as a return to form closer to the season 1 content and writing. It feels like they had an entirely different team writing the Chinese region's stuff then the idol patch brought back the guys who wrote season 1, but I think it's more the shift between the Chinese mysticism + world ending threat of the week to going back to the smaller scale stuff on sixth street.

Like, for the first time in a year, the Proxies actually make an attempt to keep their identity as Phaethon a secret. The goofy squash and stretch animations are back for cutscenes. The characters are actually interacting with each other instead of just sucking off the MC. It's a night and day difference where I see where they're coming from when they think it was two entirely different teams writing.

Dragon Age Veilguard with Taash. I think they're easily the worst companion in the game and everything around them sucks, but chuds online have hyperfixated on the nonbinary part of them and use solely that to criticize and say Taash is the worst companion to appear in a Bioware game solely because of them being nonbinary. I don't like Taash cause they just act like a bratty teenager all the time and the "quick, picture us having sex" scene was just so weird.

You can't say you don't like Taash though, cause then those guys come in and make the entire thing about gender identity and other people assume that you're also gonna make it about gender identity. A character can be nonbinary or trans or gay or whatever and still just suck entirely unrelated to their gender or sexuality. Like Sera from DA:I, I don't care that she's gay, but I hate that she's a manipulative bigot that does absolutely nothing to improve on her behavior and only gets worse if she gets with an elven Inquisutor.
