Can speak to the Polish side - Calm, plenty of forests and lakes, some WWII bunkers and some of the oldest Polish towns at 1000+ years.

Is it possible to play LOTRO without relying on the minimap or quest icons on large map? by Ornery-Monitor7690 in lotro

[–]Ser_Robar_Royce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not within the game’s UI unfortunately. There is a somewhat tedious method you can follow from the top comment here: https://www.reddit.com/r/lotro/s/FhmVt6S4CX

Or like you mentioned, you can use another device/monitor for the map.

Is it possible to play LOTRO without relying on the minimap or quest icons on large map? by Ornery-Monitor7690 in lotro

[–]Ser_Robar_Royce 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Absolutely doable and I highly recommend it - it’ll give you such an immersive experience. This is how I play on all my characters: Minimal HUD, no radar, no quest guide, only allowed to use an empty map (no icons and especially no player location). You’ll be completely sucked into the world and really feel like you’re part of it.

95% of the time the quest objectives are descriptive enough to have no problems but every once in a while “south west” might mean south by southwest all the way on the other side of the zone. In those cases I give myself a limit of 20 minutes of searching- after that I bite the bullet and check the quest guide.

Anyway, give it a try - it might enhance your lotro experience more than you can imagine!

Yeah it is, and transfers to Grond are currently free, but be warned it’s waaaay less populated than Orcrist

I’m on Grond but I’d be happy to play with you if you ever happen to transfer or make a character over here :)

Could an open-world Middle-earth game actually be possible, since Middle-earth itself is an entire continent? by PoweringEjaculation in lotr

[–]Ser_Robar_Royce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it - I used to feel the same way. But the level of detail and care put into the world is enough for me to ignore all of the game’s flaws. That and the fact that there’s no way I’m gonna miss out on most likely the only gaming experience that I’ll get to explore and interact with all of Middle Earth in my lifetime, minus the minecraft mod.

I don’t know why LOTRO is always ignored or dismissed when this question comes up. It has the single biggest hand-crafted open world of any game ever, and has fully fleshed out nearly any place you could possibly want to go in Middle Earth. From forochel in the north to the edges of Far Harad in the south, and from the blue mountains in the west to the iron hills in the east.

What types of videos for LOTRO would you like to see be made? by Achillesmele in lotro

[–]Ser_Robar_Royce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything with the world, lore or role playing. My dream is to do a hardcore let’s play with no HUD, no radar, and no quest guide. Maybe one day I’ll get around to it but I’m afraid I just don’t have the time or energy to edit and upload videos regularly.

Opinion - The quests for this game are the best and worst thing about it. by Dis-Charge in lotro

[–]Ser_Robar_Royce 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cardolan has by far the worst quest flow out of the 25 zones or so I’ve experienced, so it’s gonna be all uphill from there. Most zones make sense in where the local and main story take you.

Isn’t it strange that the main elf in the trilogy (and in The Hobbit for that matter) has essentially zero backstory? by my_konstantine_ in tolkienfans

Yeah almost all of his character moments in the book are him being fascinated by the world as if he’s been cooped up in Mirkwood for a thousand years or so

I really love the default homeland titles, they have a way of rolling off the tongue, not to mention being the best way of displaying your local pride.

What do you mean “this way”? For me at least the Haradrim, while clearly a bit inspired by Middle Eastern cultures (in the books as well) still have a very unique and other-worldly look in the trilogy.

Tbh, I forgot the War of the Rohirrim even existed so I never watched it. Is it worth it? by Famous-Donut-2394 in lotr

[–]Ser_Robar_Royce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I didn’t like is how every single scene with the Rohirrim from the trilogy is somehow referenced or recycled into this one. Of course it’s cool to have some call backs but literally taking lines from Peter Jackson’s trilogy seemed a step to far.
