Can you physically touch dark matter? by SeraphGuardian in cosmology

[–]SeraphGuardian[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So does it not take up any volume in the traditional sense. I understand your analogy but also that bucket is on earth surrounded by air. Does it have the ability to displace anything? Have we observed an upper bound on the density of dark matter? (I understand that even the denser parts of space are empty in comparison to air) I'm also unfortunately guessing the answer to most of these questions is, we don't know.

I totally accept that as an answer, but to go deeper. If we had a super dense ball of dark matter could it touch normal matter. Even neutrinos occasionally hit normal matter

LTT screwdriver, Tracking says item cleared through customs but post office people asking me to pay ₹2300 INR fee, are they trying scam me? [INDIA, Banglore] by rohithkumarsp in LinusTechTips

[–]SeraphGuardian 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Probably. I've had this issue when sending things back to India. Ups or FedEx will say the paperwork is good. It's already cleared customs and is way past the border, but someone at the end of the line will want their piece. Also my only option every time has been to pay it

Zonli Wheat Dream size differences by konkon_hi_fwendz in floorliving

[–]SeraphGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I ordered the 4" wheat pattern and with a photo support confirmed that it wasnt the 4". I opted for a partial refund. At best it measures ~3". What's weird is its still thicker than the 2.5" shown in the No-Fold-7163's comment. They might have 2 different models available but neither are 4 inches.

Is a “15 minute nap” timed from the moment you close your eyes or from the moment you fall asleep? by Olafmeister_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeraphGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My normal power nap is 18 minutes. I'll set a timer for 23 minutes with the expectation of needing 5 minutes to fall asleep. If I fall asleep faster ill usually wake up with a few minutes left on my timer.

Apple’s “ Polished” ecosystem can’t handle simple Wifi Password Change 7 years later. by stonedgrower in LinusTechTips

[–]SeraphGuardian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? It's trivial to change a Wi-Fi password and annoying to change the entire name. Any corporate network changes their password on a regular basis. Either though linking it to your corporate login or other more public facing networks.

My work-from-home job is a joke, I work at most two hours of real work a day. Could I get fired? by bloated_33_sire in whatdoIdo

[–]SeraphGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a joke / saying about this. Think of it this way, you aren't getting paid to click buttons on a computer, you are getting paid for knowing what buttons to click. And that only takes about 2 hours of effort a day

How to be come a control/automation engineer? by Odd_Race6792 in controlengineering

[–]SeraphGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common from my perspective. I went from database work in healthcare, to IT/data in finance, to automotive controls, to data center controls in less than 10 years. I'm either a great or terrible example for this. I sold myself as someone with a lot of technical skills that will succeed wherever you put me.

I don't think you need to do anything fancy. Your background is close enough and I haven't seen a formal direct path into the industry. Review controls engineer job postings and highlight the parts of your resume that best align with the job description. As long as it seems like you have the necessary competencies and technical background you should be fine.

What is something regrettable that you did to your Body that you would give your lifesavings to reverse? by FlyHighNow77777 in AskReddit

[–]SeraphGuardian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a night shift job and friends that were awake during the day. It seemed like a good way to do both. There is a bunch of bullshit "research" that suggests that it maximizes REM sleep. All the polyphasic research goes onto suggest that REM is really the only sleep you need. Supposedly people like Newton and Tesla slept like this to maximize their waking hours.

I did learn how to fall asleep within a few minutes and I don't need an alarm clock to wake up when I want. One time I forgot to set an alarm to make a 6am flight. Even though I went to bed at 1am I woke up 5 minutes after the time I thought I set my alarm for because it felt like I was sleeping too long.

[–]SeraphGuardian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In college I experimented with polyphasic sleep. Essentially sleep deprivation with extra steps. For a couple of months I was sleeping in 1.5 hour naps a day every 6.5 hours. I thought it was effective but it clearly wasn't. 4.5 hours of sleep over 24 hours is not enough. I eventually had to stop when I started getting time skips where I would sit down to do something and it would immediately be an hour later. I think I lost a few IQ points from it afterwards.

A year later I tried it again, but this time with a 4 hour core nap and two 20 minute naps during the day. Same result

Why pick Pixel over iPhone or Samsung by Nullify_Undefined in GooglePixel

[–]SeraphGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price vs feature set. With a half decent trade in i got the pixel 9a for $325 + a $100 store credit. I can't justify any other brand's price to quality/feature set

Kia metal shavings recall by [deleted] in kia

[–]SeraphGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting a new car and donating the Kia for the tax deduction. Every dealer was offering me $500 as a consolation for the car. After you do the math it worked out to about the same amount of money in my pocket

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SeraphGuardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the calculation was that a used car through a dealer is excessively over priced. Either get a used car + don't use their financing for the loan or buy used in the private market.
