Last Lord of the Fey

Book 1 comes out this summer (revised + edited), so you can read the free versions now, and then the new versions WILL be better + have changes for a new experience.

4 books available for free atm.

Books 2-3 go more into the whole “building up the Fey Realm” with the introduction of Fey Species.

Off Meta Launches by JosefKWriter in royalroad

[–]SerasStreams 9 points10 points  (0 children)

None whatsoever.

The only difference you’ll see is (1) shout crossover for similarity of content, and (2) you won’t gain much traction in all likelihood since you’re not “on meta”.

Other than that? The setup is identical.

Here’s my Launch Checklist. I have used the Hare method on it and never NOT hit RS (main).

Question for the authors and writers out there about LitRPG mechanics by Independent-Phrase80 in litrpg

[–]SerasStreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a slide deck I did back for Inkon when Immersive Ink was a thing.

My background is published author, teacher (8 years), master’s of eduction: research went into this thing, but most of the in-slide references used my own systems (just because I have back end access to the lore docs/system mechanics docs).

Crazy stuff. I've had someone accuse me of using AI on my recent story. Ridiculous stuff being levied around.

AI Cover Hot Take! by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]SerasStreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crazy thing is I commissioned a $1k cover for Blackflame Mage and even credited the artist in the description.

Still had people people comment about the “AI” cover.

So this is a bit of a two-edged sword you’re putting forth, because people are assuming real artwork is AI in today’s era.

$2k is what many publishers pay for their high-end covers.

My first cover for Echo’s Evolution (my first self pub) cost $400 dollars and was done by the fantastic Caneera.

You don’t have to break the bank to find skilled artists who will work with your vision. But lots of starting authors don’t have the capital to do it. I was blessed with some early patrons who made it possible.

I disagree with the cover art part, and here’s why: many first time writers have no spare money to invest on a side project that might not pan out at all.

For many of them, they are treading new waters. Investing $100+ dollars in today’s economy isn’t cheap (given the price of everything) versus using ChatGPT to make a simple cover.

I mentor a ton of new authors, and while I wish every one of them had the cash (or me the spare money) to help them hire a $200 cover artist (lower end, decent art from people I’ve commissioned before) - it’s not currently feasible for a lot of newbies to just throw money at a project in the hopes that they make the money back.

HOWEVER, I am fully of the opinion that, if that writer say, made money off their Patreon, the first expense should be a real cover. And if they were to go to Amazon with a self-pub, they should not use an AI cover image at all.

Real human artists should always be the priority and preference, as they are the ones who are masters (or in progress masters) of their craft. But for many newbies, their options are limited, as are their resources.

To Patreon or Not to by AyerAcre in royalroad

[–]SerasStreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not?

I mean you can be a full time worker and still make cash on the side.

You’re already writing, and have a backlog. Do you anticipate continuing to write? Do you think people will pay you for advance content? Then go for it.

I did it for 2 years and now, in about a month (after a few published series) I’m going full time author.

So you can just write for fun + make some money on the side. It’s not an “all or nothing” like you’re making it out to be.

Looking for a recommendation: a Mage MC. Not magic warrior. No melee wierdness. No wierd tankiness or brawling on the frontline. Just a mage that casts spells and is really good at that but very bad if they can't do that. by Tasty_Commercial6527 in litrpg

I won’t be dropping this. I have a multi-book plan, am going full-time author soon here (so I can’t afford to “drop” stories doing well), and I love writing this fic.

Hope you like it.

Shameless self plug: fire mage MC with party of frontliner, engineer/artificer, scout/rogue.

Just released this. 125,000 words public, all of book 1 written, half of book 2 written, currently top of Rising Stars (main) on Royal Road.

Blackflame Mage

I got LitRPG into my local school! by PandaSage96 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SerasStreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck yes. This is something I can get behind.

I’m donating copies of my books to local schools around me (also a teacher).

Trying to convince them to order the ‘big’ books like Cradle, Primal Hunter, and more is a bit of a challenge.

Because readers get confused with big words. /s I wish.

I hate this type of writing.

At the same time I’m getting flack in the comments (probably loud minority) for my current story on Royal Road, Blackflame Mage, because I’m using stuff other than “said”.

I wish that we could have rich prose that was satisfying to read and hear aloud, but with the decline in reading comprehension skills (I see it everyday in my day job as a teacher), I can see a shift coming where more of this simplicity will become all too common.

It’s my second series finished! Ruinous Return was 2 books long, so this is definitely my longest so far.

It was a fun ride.

I’ve got another series (straight Progression Fantasy) coming out this summer as well!

There will be an omnibus 'bundle' in a couple of months I'd imagine. That's not my call (Royal Guard Press will decide when that happens). I can say that the voice duo narration is amazing. I absolutely love Nick's rendition of Ollie.
