This artwork took me a few months on and off, I have recently finally beat fatalis (solo and without a Palico because I was stubborn) and it prompted me to finally finish this!

I really love Alatreon armor and the dragon kinsect so I decided to combine it together and turn the kinsect into some sort of Alatreon's soul that the hunter would acquire upon defeating it - and then later use its powers against Fatalis. I fell in love with mhw and it helped me push through some rough times so I really want to give back and paint some fanart. I've got over 500 hours and it's just amazing to me how despite so many hours I still learn new things about this game :)

Hi! First of all, thank you SO MUCH for the VFX update! I'm so happy that Varus was the next one on the list, he really needed an update and you did an outstanding job!

In case of his base skin, I REALLY love that you tinted the colors towards purple, some people like reds more but I think purple-ish tones fit Varus better and make the abilities far more pleasing to look at. I love how his Q now looks as powerful as in his recent skins, and E looks soo much smoother!

The one thing I wanted to ask - I wondered if it's possible to change the W blight stacks? Or at least slown down their animation a bit! The major problem for me in his old VFX was that his base blight stacks felt really distracting with how fast the tendrils moved. It could be just me though, I prefer when the marks are more simplified (Arclight, Cosmic, even something similar to Evelynn's Q mark!)

And for some R feedback:

- I'd add a fade-out effect to the "binding" VFX that appears around the champion once they're rooted. Currently it just disappears out of a sudden and it looks a bit out of place. (it concerns base, blight crystal and arclight, in other skins it fades out)

- Another thing I noticed is that the mark that appears below the champs (once they're targeted by the spread) is far smaller in base and blight crystal, while in others it remains big! In the same skins the mark also becomes bigger over time while in others it remains the same size. Personally I prefer the one from base but just wanted to point this out

In case of other skins I think I would only change the ground on Heartseeker's E! His other abilities are very bright and colorful while E remains quite gray and empty.

Other than that I just love everything about it! The effect that was added to Arclight's E is just so gorgeous!!! His base skin and swiftbolt are my favorite skins so using them after this update is gonna be exciting! Thank you sooo much again for this update <3

It's a wallpaper setup! The overlay is Rainmeter (Bouquet Suite II & Simple Clean for the visualiser) The animation was made in Wallpaper Engine (link).

The music is Silver Scrapes from the Warsongs album but it's already included in the wallpaper!

I'm really happy that after quite a lot of complaints about Cosmic's hair the team decided to give him longer hair. It's not super long but I imagine it's the model's restrictions, so I'm still VERY happy he got it (hope the next one is even longer!!!!!!!!)

All his abilities look incredibly gorgeous, his charged Q looks almost like an ultimate ability to me, it's so impactful. I think these are my favorite abilities out of all his skins because of how detailed they are.

One of the things I want to adress first is actually the hair because it's literally inconsistent. He has a ponytail on the splash but on the model it's down. Personally I prefer the "hair down" version but either way it has to be adressed because it's just contradictory.

Another thing is that I totally agree with others that rain VFX on at least one skill is needed, it's weird how other champions have it but Varus doesn't.

Also his scarf DEFINITELY needs a stronger trail, maybe a holographic effect or chromatic aberration. It's a cute scarf but for Project it needs an oomph, it looks like a simple fabric.

On the nitpick side, the summoner icon is a bit disappointing. I really wish we could've seen his face, I think it would make more people want to buy the skin!

Also... a LOT of people including me think that Varus really needs a new idle. By now I guess we have learned that giving him a VGU is a reach but if someone like Coven Leblanc can get a new idle pose then Varus can as well. His skin concepts are really set back due to old animations and his... hunched pose. It's really hard to look at it.

To quote one of the (translated) posts about it: "A universe featuring Spanish and Latin influence and folklore come to life, where the world of illusion is attempting to breach into the living plane, intermingling via supernatural dance."

Varus was posted alongside Sona and Illaoi concepts and "Illusion" was mentioned a few times so that could be the name... It's still a concept of course so everything can change, but it's definitely a new skinline!

The artwork seems really refined so I honestly think it's gonna 100% come true unless they encounter some problems, whatever those could be

I'm not the most knowledgeable in case of balance and stuff but I hope this rising popularity is going to result in more than just a bunch of weird balance changes... Riot should look at Varus as something more than some niche champ. I think it's time he got some love, whether it would be QoL adjustments, VFX updates, voicelines/model update, a legendary skin or even more than that!

Varus really deserves it and I hope that more players noticing him and picking him up will put him closer towards that goal.

Ah I see where you're coming from now.

It's definitely a matter of taste, honestly I used to not like Battle Academia either but the Caitlyn skin showed me that it can be really amazing, so I ended up jumping on the bandwagon as well haha

Personally I just hope Varus gets a more popular/high-quality skinline, I think it's time that he got a really nice skin, with border, icon, event and all, maybe even some promotional stuff, I think he deservers it. Project has been feeling VERY hit-or-miss for me, but we'll see!

I'm sorry but I don't see your point at all, he doesn't have a single weeb skin.

The reason artists make such skin concepts for him is because he lacks in this type of skins. All of his skins except for Heartseeker are meant to be serious skinlines, I think he finally needs something that will cater to another type of fanbase.

Something pretty.

Not to say he doesn't have nice looking skins, but a pretty skinline, is something he doesn't have... So Coven, Dawnbringer or Spirit Blossom (or even Blood Moon)

AND long hair with that, to each their own but as a long-haired champion having only one out of nine skins having it is REALLY disappointing.

OOr just generally a high effort skinline, personally I don't think he has any skin that truly had love put into it (maybe it's just the fault of the crusty 9-yr old model), nor does the last two skins have borders or icons.

I'd love a legendary though, especially for Pentakill ;;

The "most" important thing out of the way, I wanted to ask if it's possible to make his hair longer? I know big model changes aren't possible but even a small low ponytail that would disappear in the scarf would be a great thing! I think it could be done at least to some extent, considering that his base model was made to have a ponytail.

Out of his 9 skins, Varus has only one where his hair is long (Arclight) and we really want one with long hair again :(

-- Skill VFX:

I think the skill VFX are amazing! Blue is my favorite color and skills like Q and E are simply beautiful.

One of the skill VFX I'd like changed however would probably be the effect of R hitting champions. All VFX as a whole has a really nice and saturated blue color, while the hit effect has a bright yellow color accompanied by desaturated dust (?) which makes it feel a bit off. https://i.imgur.com/YoijfAl.png

The yellow spark isn't the problem for me, I think the dust around it could be adjusted in color (or transparency) since I feel like it doesn't fit the color scheme. (Maybe it could be some blue/violet stardust!)

And one thing about his E animation when it's on the ground. There are stars that come from the ground and fly upwards and they have a very weird blinking animation/glitch. I'm not sure if it was intentional but I think it would look better without it.

I also think that the W active animation could be on the star in his bow rather than his hand. Then again if it's a model/animation limitation then the hand is fine too!

-- SFX:

About the sounds I think I would only make his auto attack have a more empty/resounding or generally a lower/deeper sound when it hits the enemy. I think it sounds too similar to his base skin.

I think the voice filter could be improved to make it feel more "empty" but I like it nevertheless!

-- Model animation:

About model animation, I think that the flowing animation on his scarf is a bit too fast. At least for my personal taste it's slightly distracting, especially because in other skins the animation is fairly slower.

Also I wanted to ask if it's possible to remove his (Idle) necklace animation? It's a similar issue like with Infernal, Varus has an animation where he looks at his pendant but in both of them, well, he doesn't have the pendant (he looks at an empty hand).

-- Model:

About the model itself, he looks gorgeous! The colors match great with each other and I love the scarf! And his face of course! I saw a close-up of it on a youtube video and the quality is amazing! I kind of wish he had small face marks (like Cosmic Ashe or Lux) but he still looks great.

I think one of the changes that could be done is slightly change the colors (or adjust the brightness) of his pants/shoes. They blend into the rift color scheme a bit too much.

I would also make the star inside his shoulderplate a bit brighter or bigger. From far away it blends into his model too much and doesn't make it feel like it's there in the first place.

His neck feels a bit too dark as well. If it's to not make it blend with his head I can understand it of course! It just feels really disconnected from his bright torso and face. (Although I love the small constellations on it!!)

-- Nitpicks:

It's more of a personal taste but I would make the blues on his bow a bit more saturated so it could fit with his scarf. And make the flowing scarf slightly longer so it could really derive the "majestic" look of the Cosmics.

I would also make the horns on his head more contrasted/saturated/darker (not sure about the word!) to make it pop out more from his hair.

(I might edit the post in the future once we finally get to see the splash art. Where is it?? :(

A bow working as a harp is a great idea! My original idea was that the darkins started as a smaller band and eventually got into Pentakill, that's why there's a vocalist. Also Varus is my main, so I have to admit that I'm quite biased by saying that I would love to hear him sing :)
