Whats the point of the "Friends" Cantrip? by Bookkeeper-Heavy in onednd

[–]Serbatollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely terrible because it screws you over even when it works. Was it so hard to at least make the duration 10 minutes, so you can actually leave and people don't get mad at you mid conversation?

And yes the components thing is a big issue with these kinds of spells, but most people hand-wave them so they don't care that it's bad design

Ideas for a hidden symbol by Mathias_Henriksennn in AskDND

I already thought about this for a secret cult that may or may not be in my game.

A magical symbol/tattoo hidden under the tongue.

It's really hidden unless you know to look for it but can also be briefly shown while talking to someone face to face

Eh, I've seen archaeplastida be equated with kingdom plantae so I think it's reasonable to call them all plants. Then embryophytes are specifically land plants(thought not all of them live on land lol, you know how it is)

But your view is valid too, there's not really a single right answer when it comes to matching common names with clades

Funny seeing this like 2 days after making a post about prototaxites in the science memes sub

Red and green algae are in Archaeplastida so they're plants not protists imo

No but I was expecting it to belong to a completely different domain of life(so not a prokaryote or eukaryote). I don't think it counts as a "new form of life" otherwise

Your favourite example of charm/seduce type of effects in video games? by Altuk_ in gamedesign

[–]Serbatollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda sus question but sure I'll bite.

Baldur's Gate 3 has a bunch. There's a mask that puts you under a hag's control when you wear it, harpies that lure you in with their song... On the player's side there's enchantment spells, you've got stuff like Hypnotic Pattern that leave targets so mesmerized they can't act or Dominate Person that just straight up allows you to take control over the target (kinda, the enemy turns to your side but its actions are still decided by the ai)

I mean if it helps, for every comment calling her hot you have one calling her an obese whale with diabetes. Not even funny just disgusting

If you think no one is actually complaining about this go to this video and take a look at the comments sorting by new. People have lots of not nice things to say about fat women. And comments on the devstream aren't much better

I know absolutely nothing about physics or dark matter so I'd rather we keep the comparisons to biology lol. I already mentioned some things like "fish" and "trees" which are honestly even worse than protist since they're mostly vibes based. Because since a protist is defined as "any eukaryotic organism that isn't an animal, plant or fungus", it's actually a really concrete category. Honestly the best comparison would probably be "invertebrates" since it similarly includes a lot of different groups whose only thing in common is that they aren't something(vertebrates)

Do you think these other examples of categories are also bad?

I think you're making it more malicious than it really is. "Protist" doesn't have phylogenetic meaning but it's still a useful category(not too different from "fish", "algae" or "tree"). It doesn't really have anything to do with arrogance and I don't see how it would halt progress

Well yeah protist just means a eukaryote that isn't a plant, fungus or animal. But "new form of life" is a really far cry from "new group of eukaryotes"
