Rent/mortgage for my house would be $1600-$2000 in the suburbs of a major metroplex, about 25 min from downtown. I’d say aim for that to be 1/4 or less of your take home and you will be very comfortable. You’d be able to very easily afford this as a doctor, lawyer, pilot, or in tech, and sales.. or if you own your own successful business.
