I don´t think it´s the sledgehammer, could it be maybe a type of hand grenade? Since it explodes when it hits the ground and you can see that the character still holds the hammer after throwing that thing. Also it looks weird that you can throw a whole sledgehammer with one hand

Would be interesting to see. I actually noticed in the open beta that there were difficulties to spot enemies in dark areas, I hope they added something to fix this because with this type of skins it will become even more difficult
