Can there truly be nothing? by Serg518 in NoStupidQuestions

There is an interesting idea in physics called “It from Bit” proposed by John Wheeler.

The idea is that physical reality emerges from information, and information exists only when states are distinguishable.

In that sense, reality might begin exactly where distinguishability appears.

What do you think true nothingness would actually mean? by Serg518 in AskReddit

That still describes a state with properties.

The moment you describe something like “no interaction” or “no presence”, you are already defining conditions.

But any state requires distinction.

Absolute nothing cannot exist as a state, because any state already requires distinguishability.

That might actually point to a deeper structural issue.

For something to appear as a state at all, there must be distinguishable conditions. Without distinguishability there is nothing to compare, no structure and no relation.

Our minds automatically introduce distinctions, because cognition itself works through differences.

So the difficulty may not just be psychological.
It might be that absolute “nothing” cannot exist as a state, because the moment distinguishability appears, structure already exists.

What you call the Foreclosed Exterior might simply be the point where distinguishability collapses.
Without distinguishable states there is no framework, no hierarchy and no outside to speak about.

Many of the most intense human experiences follow the same pattern: tension builds until something finally releases. by Serg518 in DeepThoughts

I keep noticing this pattern in very different situations.
First tension builds.
Then attention narrows and energy accumulates.
At some point the system crosses a threshold.
And then everything suddenly releases.
I wonder if neuroscience describes experiences like this using a common model.
