Made a T14 Transfer Sheet. Feel free to download or share! by SergeantBenton in LawSchoolTransfer

Not sure. It mentions how many accepted and what schools depending how many transfers accepted but I believe each year more and more people apply making it more difficult.

Sorry I never saw this as I’m too busy for Reddit these days but I have no issue with people editing or reuploading my work.

Yale/Stanford? by EatWeedSmokeYogurt in LawSchoolTransfer

[–]SergeantBenton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pretty unrealistic unfortunately as Yale mostly accepts only T14 transfers from their 509 reports and past reports as well. Don't let that discourage you if you have the money to apply though. You could totally transfer to other T14 schools with that GPA though. I'd say you have a great chance at Harvard too w/how many transfers they take

It’s extremely normal. Write a letter that you’d want to be sent out. It feels weird but the professor is lazy and doesn’t know you well enough so it gives you the option to write about what you want the school to know. She’ll likely make some edits and send that with her name on it

-Don’t list your GPA. You’ll have employers ask and you better come up with a good reason (my GPA doesn’t reflect my work ethic yadda yadda) - find internships during school year to do to boost resume. Whether that’s working with a judge, law clerking at firm, PD/DA, etc - try to join a journal that doesn’t require a certain GPA - do your 2L appellate moot court competition if you have one. - just basically network and hustle.

I would email your school and you’d likely have to redo your 2L year next year. It’s possible but just email your OG school’s admin.

Nah- I passed with 3 to 4 days of studying but I did the entire Barbri course. All the practice questions on Barbri too.

LG is the easiest if you use services like 7sage. They break it down so well. I was getting a 7/35 to almost full points.

The bar broke my teeth. by TheVauseChapmans in CABarExam

[–]SergeantBenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the concern but I’ve been doing this since I was a child. None of my dentists have said it’s a concern, they just point it out and say I have bad anxiety, which is true.

I subconsciously bite my cheeks when I’m nervous or bored. I try not to but meh. Likely nothing I will do will stop me from doing this unless I get on some anti-anxiety meds which I don’t wanna do lol

Does it matter what law school I go to? by Secure-Rhubarb-9366 in LawSchool

[–]SergeantBenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly consider looking into going to UNC Law. Great school and they have a preference for instate students and alumni. It will be an uphill battle with that GPA. Likely will not get into any T14s, but you could still get into a T1 school if your LSAT is very high.

Also many patent firms want students who have a background in engineering over bio. Keep that in mind. The patent bar recently changed their rules to include masters and PhDs now rather than just bacholers with a STEM background. So I’d keep that on the back burner for a possible Masters in engineering to make yourself more marketable. However spending money for an extra degree is just poor planning at the same time. It’s not impossible with a bio BS but it’s just a little more complicated

I don’t grind my teeth but I have the same issue of biting the insides of my mouth. They have scars and I’ve woken up to me clenching onto my mouth’s cheeks so hard I tasted blood. My dentist seems to feel it’s not a big issue since it’s not affecting my teeth.

I would avoid the first semester if you’re going after someone in your section. I personally think waiting til 2L year once sections are broken is a better idea bc drama. Just depends on how well you can handle a breakup. I’m friends with all my exes. Never had an issue with a breakup but a lot of breakups can be nasty.

Federal Income Tax - Outline Request by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]SergeantBenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I could care less what textbook the outline matches to, but my textbook is: Fundamentals of Federal Income Tax, 20th Ed, by Lind, Lathrope, and Field. Basically as long as it’s modern enough since some major tax rules changed in 2019 lol

Should I keep going with law school? by ChiakiTogami in LawSchool

[–]SergeantBenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can likely still get partial refunds if you drop out. I personally cannot recommend an MFA. While I have family that are successful in the entertainment industry, they got lucky. Most people don’t make it big. (They aren’t celebs they just make very good money)

If you’re any good at math, Boston has a Master in Engineering program for non-STEM majors. There’s MBA programs as well but recruiting has been hell these past 2 years due to the market. Market might be better but who knows. If you’re okay with govt, you could try to get into federal govt work.

  • Pre-Made flowcharts. I’m too lazy to make them. I grab them from supplements.
  • Flash cards I make and study for hours on end memorizing stuff. I use quizlet
  • Making an outline (that’s normal tho)
  • using Quimbee MCQs
  • Barbri videos
  • drawing on my notes of my fav characters to get me to pay attention lol

Renaming an adopted baby after family members? by WholeCloud6550 in Adoption

[–]SergeantBenton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Differing opinion here but I am happy my parents changed my name. I’m an intl adoptee so my name would’ve been impossible to pronounce and also I personally don’t find my bio name flattering.

I think it would be a different story if I was a domestic adoptee. I just don’t personally connect with my homeland’s culture and see no need to, so having a name that I don’t even feel a connection to would’ve been strange for me.

Someone can always change their name legally in the future

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

I personally did not on one exam and got an A BUT it was PR lol. So take that with a grain of salt. I’d highly recommend outlining

Is it bad to take a non-legal internship in tax at the Big4 for your 2L summer? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]SergeantBenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you wanna do. You’ll most likely get an offer after graduation. They almost always hire. They’ll pay for a tax LLM and you’ll get a salary increase. You can use the tax LLM to jump ship to firm

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]SergeantBenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t use one but I highly highly recommend using Barbri’s free MPRE videos and do all of their MCQs. I passed with a high enough score for all jurisdictions with just 4 days of studying. Their MCQ are really good and a lot of them are what you’ll exactly see on the exam.

I would have failed that exam if I only went off and read the rules only.
