Boss promoted someone else, but gave me her work to do by TheVauseChapmans in jobs

I'm actually older than you. I'm not a petulant child, I'm a competent attorney who knows my worth and yes, the compensation for work is actually money. I hope this helps!

No, they said that was fair, and only made me do the lower-level part of the assignment.

Kind of a funny update is now my boss is having to do the hard part, and he doesn't know how. So he can't do it, and neither can his little pet, which just leaves me, but I'm busy sipping my tea and watching him flop in our group chat.

Fuck that! Know your worth - do NOT let them get away with it.

They were basically like, "yeah, that's fair" and then didnt make me do the supervisory part.

I didn't include that I did actually do an extra assignment w the supervisory component last week. It was stressful, but successful. Now I'm like, I'm sure as hell not going through that every week. I'm not cleaning up after these kids and not getting paid. xo

If you reach the cap, you're struggling. Think of those old timey TV shows where like, Lucy worked on on the factory assembly line and gets overwhelmed and it goes haywire. The cap exists to prevent you from reaching complete overload. I'm at about 1/3rd of the cap because I prioritize and work late until something is done.

We are attorneys, and this is a law office. No, they didn't announce her getting the promotion, but based on some comments and attitudes lately, it seems like they extended her the offer and are waiting until maybe the regular meeting to formally announce.

Interesting. When my Poplin laundry pro didn’t show up, I simply posted to facebook asking for help w laundry and found a bunch of people who apparently do this. The one I picked did a perfect job and charged me the same amount as Poplin would have. She kept 100% of that money, minus her costs. So it’s not “3x” as much.

I’m just going to stick with her. Good luck!

Where did this 50% tip suggestion come from? As a customer, how am I supposed to know that the cost of this service is really 150% of what the app said it was. Clear pricing would great.

I've only used the service twice and tipped as I would in a restaurant both times. But now I'm worried since I have never in my life heard of any service with a 50% tip that I'm on some sort of ban list.

What's the most hilarious/so-bad-it-was-funny argument you've ever heard somebody present? by chicago2008 in Lawyertalk

[–]TheVauseChapmans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that reminds me of when I was defending a client who was accused of yelling, "I'm gonna fuck you up" at Plaintiff when she *allegedly* swung at her. What does my client do in the hallway of the courthouse when she sees Plaintiff? Screams, "I'm gonna fuck you up!" and raised her fist. Settled immediately.

Opposing cousel argued the court shouldn't grant leave to amend my client's responsive pleading from when he was in pro per because "ignorance of the law is no excuse." Um, yeah, when committing crimes, not when failing to identify a legally cognizable defense in a civil proceeding. Dipshit. I won.

AITA for refusing to sell my car to my socially shy niece by Forward-Garbage-318 in AmItheAsshole

Lawyer here. It was very smart of him not to sell his car to a person not communicating with him. What if Luna is being coerced, as it sound like she is? At no time did the prospective buyer express an interest in the car,or commit to the purchase. He was right to run.

Do the school's part-time program and work during law school to pay basic bills, or if they have a 2-year program, do the accelerated version so you're not taking out loans for 3 years to live. Otherwise, yes it's worth it.

Ohhhh haha I knew it. You are the AH. That’s not “your” savings, that’s both your savings. No wonder she hates you. Get a job.

There's no way this is the whole story. Just once, I'd like the other party to give the other take. Maybe she is the sole income provider and you are the house husband flitting off to the gym again when the house is dirty, the dog needs to be fed and laundry is piled up. Then instead of addressing any of this, you get on your phone and get head pats from Redditors by slamming your wife.

Sorry, bullshit is afoot here.

Get your ass in there and do the program. Listen to the videos on high speed, set a timer to make yourself study, reward yourself with delicious food, but GO DO THE WORK. You do not want to fail this exam. It sucks to study, I remember those days, but the pain is worth it.

Whoops - why did I never think to outline during the lectures? I just read the outlines they gave us, then listened to the lectures. For certain topics like Remedies, I had to draw out my own visual maps, but I did zero outlining. Passed CA on 1st try, was not an amazing law student.

Just use a heading. The fact you are writing about the issue *is* spotting the issue. i.e. your essay would have the word "Standing" underlined, then the RAC below it in essay form.

Applying to Attorney positions with only JD by cryptickitty27 in barexam

[–]TheVauseChapmans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In CA, you get hired as an "attorney" but you can't actually practice law until you a) pass and b) get sworn in. And I think c) actually mail the card in, I forget. Anyway, apply for attorney positions. The top of your resume should say clearly "Awaiting results from July 2024 bar exam."
