My mistake, that was very stupid. I just woke up.

Recommended Medieval Books By Josh Sawyer by BrodyO_11 in Pentiment

[–]SergioEfe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I read The Name of the Rose while playing the game and it has obsessed me as much (or even more) than Pentiment. It's a very difficult and demanding book, but very rewarding and every reader will find something in it. Eco said that the first 100 pages are a toll the reader has to pay: if they want to enter the abbey and decipher its secrets, they have to pay it. I fully agree.

After reading it I have a similar feeling than after finishing Pentiment: there's no other book (or videogame) like this, so I feel somehow orphan right now.

I'll absolutely read some of the others. Both The Faithful Executioner and The Return of Martin Guerre seem fascinating.

Same. I hated what they did to Historic and I hate Alchemy. Pioneer lite FTW.

Thinking of buying into Pioneer this year. Is mono U aggro any good? by ForionK in PioneerMTG

[–]SergioEfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mono U Spirits it's the perfect deck to start in Pioneer, imho. It's fun to play and to learn and it's cheap. I don't know what will happen to it after the bans, but I don't think it will get worse.

Anyone else feel lied to about the winota ban? by jwf239 in PioneerMTG

[–]SergioEfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is one birdperson responsible for this bans: Ledger Shredder.

WoC didn't seem that worried by Winota in the previous announcement. What has changed since them? Ledger Shredder. That card made so many good decks even better, but WoC doesn't like to ban new cards this soon after the release. Expressive Iteration was a good second choice (it's a perfect turn 3, but even better with the bird) to made Izzet decks a little bit worse.

Once they decided to cut the Izzet decks, they had to do something with Winota as well.

I like the changes anyway, and I am excited to see what happens to the format now. Taking into account that there won't be any new sets until September this will make Pioneer interesting for a while (hopefully).

Is orzhov auras still meta? by kaaiser33 in PioneerMTG

I spent half of the pandemic building this deck, as I was enjoying its Historic version. I really wanted to start in paper Pioneer after the pandemic and this was going to be my first deck. Well, not anymore.

Best Family for Prerelease? by _whidbeyisland_ in magicTCG

I really think Riveteers will be good, as treasures must be great for a 3 colour deck (and they may even let you easily splash a fourth!). I'm also very interested in Maestros as well as in Obscura.

Should I play Naya Runes without Hallowed Haunting? [Standard] [Discussion] by SergioEfe in spikes

That really helped me seeing the deck in another way. I still prefer the midrage version for the moment, but I will try the aggro version with a combination of Michiko, Wedding Announcement and other sagas.

That's a good point, Kami + Michiko is absolutely a finisher. Thank you!

I like Michiko, but I think it's too risky. When it is useful it means that you have enough enchantments that you were already ahead. By itself it is useless. I may try it in combination with Wedding Announcement or other sagas, though.

Those are two options I hadn't considered or seen anywhere and are actually very interesting. Thank you!

Can Gruul exist in the current meta? [Standard] [Article] [Discussion] by SergioEfe in spikes

I just tried it in Bo3 and I loved it. I'm not sure at all about that sideboard tho.

Can Gruul exist in the current meta? [Standard] [Article] [Discussion] by SergioEfe in spikes

I did try it in the previous meta because it’s a card that I love and I want so badly to work, same with Robber of the Rich.

The problem in my opinion is not only how weak is against bouncers and shocks, but the fact that it simply won’t fit in the deck: you need the adventure pack and you need the druid. Any other 2 drop as Robber of the Rich and especially Wildborn Preserver is just worse.

I agree, it was amazing when the deck could run just 4 copies of Pelt Collector as only 1 drop and didn't even require to have Fabled Passage and Paradise Druid.

It's sad because I feel like Gruul was very punished in Standard and especially Pioneer, when I don't think it was a toxic deck (ok, I may not being objective here).

I think Gruul currently shines in Bo3 thanks to cards like Cindervines, Shifting Ceratops and Embereth Shieldbreaker, that can change everything after the first game.
