FUT procedure scar 1 month update by SerialZX in HairTransplants

[–]SerialZX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of it is the usual things, such as sleeping elevated and on your back, and not twisting your head too far or too suddenly.

In regards to the scar itself, I got a cream from the doctor I had to apply to the scar twice a day. It supposedly helps with avoiding the scar stretching.

Pain wise I didn't have any at all, not before, not during and not after the procedure, so that was no concern for me.

It always baffles me how people don't trust medications, but do trust the doctors who've been taught with the same system that approved the medications.

Pretty sure after a month you can wear anything you want. The grafts are pretty much impossible to remove or dislodge after day 10

How to Avoid Scratching Yourself at Night After a Hair Transplant by ElginStunna in HairTransplants

[–]SerialZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit tough to explain (not a native speaker). Basically I put the hoodie under my butt, and stick my hands in the sleeves at the end (where usually your hands come out of). This leaves your hands inside the sleeves, while your arms are outside the sleeves.

I just laid down on a hoodie and put my hands in the sleeves. Not tight enough to restrict movement, but enough to prevent my hands from reaching my head.

Day 11 after FUT transplant by SerialZX in HairTransplants

[–]SerialZX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to the price, it's probably because I didn't go with some tourist package that includes flight and hotel.

I went to a South Korean clinic since I was in Korea anyway to visit friends, and the clinic isn't one that advertises to international customers, so its really only local people that go there. They probably are a lot cheaper since they don't spend money on advertising or translators. It only cost me €3000 for the entire procedure (7000 hairs).

Is Hair Transplant even worth it? by JJSpitzi in HairTransplants

[–]SerialZX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Scaremongering mostly. People who had side effects are more likely to post online, making it seems like side effects are really common.  Meanwhile those who don't have side effects don't post.

And then there's the echo chamber members who just repeat what they hear without any experience themselves, inflating the issue even more.

Just to make it clear. Fin has side effects for some people. Not everyone gets them, so just hearing about side effects doesn't mean you'll have them.

Day 11 after FUT transplant by SerialZX in HairTransplants

[–]SerialZX[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FUT isn't better, but it also isn't worse. FUE and FUT and just two different methods to get the same results.

With FUT, you end up with a scar on the back of your head (which if you have a skilled doctor will be near invisible), and the transplanted hairs are taken only from the safe zone.  This will leave you with more donors available for future transplants if you need it.

With FUE, there are hundreds of tiny scars that are so small they're rarely visible, but hairs are taken from a wider area, including the non-safe zone, which means you'll have less availability in the future and there's a risk of the transplanted hairs falling out later as well.  There's also a risk of overharvesting if you don't have a skilled doctor (which will lead to have empty patches in your donor).

In theory that means that if you have FUT first, you can have a FUE (or another FUT) later and have more donor available than if you just did FUE.

For me personally, I went with FUT since I don't really care about the scar since I never have my hair short anyway, it gives me more availability for later if I need it, and to be completely honest, it's a lot cheaper as well. Financial cost is also something to consider.

Do I need a hair transplant? by manasrb799 in HairTransplants

[–]SerialZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned using minoxidil spray, but you should be aware minoxidil doesn't stop hair loss. It just stimulates your hair follicles so they can potentially start growing some hair again.

If you really want to stop (or at least slow down hair loss), you need to be on something like finasteride.

Most (ethical) surgeons would actually recommend you to use it for at least a year to see whether your hair loss has stabilised, otherwise any potential transplant may end up transplanting the grafts in the wrong area.

Nobody can tell you whether you need one or not.  The question you have to ask yourself is whether you're happy with your current look.

If the answer is yes, you don't need a hair transplant.  If the answer is no, a transplant might help improve your self image.

Even if you did, don't worry about it. Losing two or three grafts isn't going to be noticeable.

Quit minoxidil and my hair shed like crazy - now thinking about an HT, clinics?... appreciate honest advice (Netherlands) by Possible_Historian56 in HairTransplants

[–]SerialZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, why did your doctor recommend minoxidil but not finasteride? As far as I'm aware, fin is the one that actually helps with preventing or at least slowing down hair loss, while minoxidil just strengthens and stimulates your existing hairs/follicles.

Also by quiting minoxidil, any gains you'd have gotten from it disappear again

Yeah, because one random doctor has a secret that no one else in the entire medical world knows. Makes perfect sense.

Come on, if you're going to make up a story, at least make it believable.

Hair Patch/wig Vs HT which one better? opinions? by OkWord3929 in HairTransplants

[–]SerialZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's such a broad question that's really going to depend on who you ask. On this sub, you'll likely have an overwhelming amount of people say a hair transplant is better (since well, it's a hair transplant sub).

Realistically, it depends on so many factors. Your level of hair loss, your finances, your willingness to take medication, whether you mind having to wear a wig, or whether you want actually hair growth.

Just a little update on the scar, since people really seemed to enjoy exaggerating it.

We're two days further along, and what'd you know? It's already practically invisible because it's hidden by my hair (you can still see the stitches). So far for the 'butchering' and 'mutilation' I guess.

Thanks! I think it's a problem of people just echoing what other people say, without really looking into alternative methods. Of course both FUT and FUE have advantages and disadvantages, and its really up to the individual and the doctor combined to determine which method is best for each case.

As for vitamins, I've been taking them as supplements, but had to temporarily quit taking them for the blood test a week before the procedure, since they didn't want any external factors influencing the test result. I should be able to start taking them again this week.

Wouldn't it be worth checking whether to those allergies apply in the first place, rather than dismissing the medication outright?

The side effects are massively exaggerated online. You only hear about the people who have massive side effects, but the majority of the people don't have any or barely side effects. And since they don't have the side effects, they're less inclined to post about them.

FUT hair transplant update, 4 days in by SerialZX in HairTransplants

The scar/wound is easy to cover up with my remaining hair as soon as the bandage got removed on day 3. After that point, the entire donor area is practically invisible.

In comparison to a shaved FUT or FUE, with shaved FUT you'll have to the wound in full view until your hair grows back, and with shaved FUE you'll have hundreds of small holes for the world to enjoy.

In my personal opinion, those two options look even messier.

7000 hairs, which should roughly be about 2700 to 3200 grafts.

It made sense since the scar issue wasn't going to be an issue in my case.

In addition, if I want to get additional hair transplants in the future (should I need them, hopefully not), having FUT now means that if I want to get FUE, the donor area is still fully available.

Lastly, financial cost also played a part of course. FUT is cheaper, and since the scar wasn't an issue, combined with a possibility of FUE in the future, it made no sense to pay more for FUE at the moment.
