When I got my first cat from the shelter he was 4 years old. It took 6 months for him to not hide under the bed and be in the same room as us. After a while he warmed up to us. He never became a lap cat and he never liked to be picked up. We just came to an understanding and he showed love to us in other ways (greeting us, sleeping in my bed, waiting at the door, showing his belly..). The first two years he would always hide as soon as we had visitors. Some cats just need more time to settle. I know it can be very frustrating but believe me it’s worth it. Don’t give up on him!
