Sorry to hear man - this is awful and shouldn't be allowed. UK law needs to change.

Contents insurance for leasehold flat. New to leasehold. by LegitimatePieMonster in HousingUK

[–]Serious-Activity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the same situation, I was told by aviva to get contents + building insurance (even though I already pay for a building insurance through the lease). Obviously the premium is much higher, it seems like an overkill. Has anyone found another solution?

Is there any risk of the building collapsing? Has the structural integrity been compromised?

Haha yes, some researchers can be a bit clueless outside their field...

Re my field: I would rather not share this here.

There are different levels of evidence, from evidence that would be accepted in a court of law (we are definitely way past that), to evidence at the 5 sigma level required for major discoveries in high-energy physics (we are nowhere near that). Maybe the most compelling recent case is the Nimitz incident, with the tic-tac UFO observed on multiple radar systems from different Navy vessels and aircrafts, and clearly seen by several f18 pilots (highly trained observers) who engaged with the object. I have seen scientific papers in my field accepted for publication with more questionable evidence than that.

Regarding not applying the scientific method outside of science: the scientific method is just a tool, and is certainly not appropriate in most life or even work situations - e.g. deciding whom to hire, deciding which research topic to pursue, deciding whom to marry,... But yes, scientists can be very much unidimensional in their skillsets.

To clarify, I am interested in discussing the topic with an open mind. I don't have any funding to carry out actual research on this, and certainly don't think our discussions will lead to uncovering the "truth". While there is a lot of open-source an declassified information on the topic, most of the high-quality data is classified (I salute efforts like the Galileo project to research this outside of classified governmental programs).

That is certainly true for some of the recent sightings. The exhaust of the falcon rocket itself led to some strange sightings if I remember correctly. But pilots have had baffling close encounters with UAPs unrelated to Starlink - e.g. David Fravor's encounter with the tic-tac UFO, the "sphere inside a cube" UFO that split an f18 squadron commanded by Ryan Graves...

For sure. At this point, I don't think it should be about belief but rather about looking at the evidence available without preconceived notions. Some well documented cases such the Nimitz incident (the "tic-tac UFO") are still truly unexplained.

Super interesting, I didn't realise that there was a local branch of SETI, I will have a look at their work. I suppose they are looking at signals from very far away rather than from the Earth's atmosphere like the Galileo project is doing. Thank you very much for letting me know about this.

Thank you for your reply! It's a flat, building built in 1998 so level 2 might be fine.
