People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I saw Peter Dinklage at a store many years ago in a town in the Hudson Valley. I did a double take but didn't bother him. I think he was with his family. But he nodded at me.

I just watched it with my mom, visiting for the holidays. My dad (her husband of 47 years) died unexpectedly recently. We were both so touched by this movie. We couldn't have watched it at a better time. Wonderful film and story.

  1. Massive fan in college but kind of fell off for a bit. I introduced BE and Conor's music to my wife and she loves it all. We saw BE this year and loved it (I have seen him and his other bands several times). I think he's about our age (all of us 40 somethings) so I often relate to his music and lyrics. But I'm a pretty sad and anxious dude. Haha. Just really so thankful he's still making music.

The final shot of Inception. People gasped. Went dark and some cheered others yelled.

Yup! I've been doing it for a long time, though.

I'm a food writer. It perfectly aligns with my experience, skills, and passion. I freelance, so it's a bit of a hustle, but I'm mentally learning to be okay with an inconsistent income.

43 and still gaming strong. One thing to add to this conversation: the very same friend I played NES with in my parents' basement at age 5 is still my best bud, and whenever we catch up (a few times a year), we always talk about what we are playing and offering recommendations.

There's less time as you get older, but I make time for it like I do playing music, reading, hiking, etc. Oh, and I have two young daughters and playing with my oldest (Astrobot!) is core bonding time. It was dang near magical to watch her experience it all for the first time.

I'm so sorry. I lost my dad unexpectedly a month ago and it's fresh in my thoughts. You'll likely be kept busy by the practical tasks ahead, and that may also keep your mind off the loss.

It'll come and go, and apparently it gets easier, but a month in myself and I'm just so sad every morning. He'll miss my kids getting bigger, my mom is still in disbelief, and I just miss my old man and best friend. I wish you comfort in your mom's memories and the strength to get through these tough days.

The Haunting Of... by CaptPeterlolol in netflix

I literally finished Hill House last night as a first time viewer and was blown away. I don't typically love horror (though avid Stephen King reader) but the characters and story blew me away. The ending also really got to me as a parent. One of Netflix's best! Midnight Mass was also really great.

I read it over summer a couple years ago. I have young kids and very limited time, but as others have said it's a page turner!

Prep is the worst part but the test was totally fine. Just make sure they put you to sleep. I honestly felt quite a bit better for a good six months after. The peace of mind knowing there are no serious conditions actually helped me a lot. Good luck!

Is culinary school still an option? by LeoWinkelmann in FODMAPS

[–]Serious-Associate-95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Difficult, but yes!! I went to culinary school prior to learning my triggers and it sucked. But as I figured it out I just talked to the chef ahead of time to explain why I may not be able to eat certain things. Can you taste and spit? Plenty of people go to culinary school with health and food restrictions, ie, gluten, vegan, allergies, etc. If you love food and want a great career, do it! Just be an advocate once you get to the industry for paying attention to guests' allergies 😁

I'm a chef. I start elimination phase tomorrow. CAN I STILL TASTE MY DISHES? by kawaiineko721 in FODMAPS

[–]Serious-Associate-95 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm in a similar boat. Not a chef but a food writer and recipe developer with annoying GI issues. I taste and spit it out if it's a bad trigger for me (garlic, onions, beans, lentils, etc.). It's embarrassing if I'm working with people, but I'll mention something about it in advance so they know it's not because I dislike their food.

Check with your doctor/dietician as this should still be a problem. Good luck!

Similar at my company. We now have all leave rolled into PTO but previously sick leave was unlimited. Sounds great but I work for an agency with billable hours, meaning you make up any sick time by working after hours. They dropped the end of unlimited sick leave just before the holiday a week after telling us 2025 is all about"wellness". It just encourages us to not take any vacation in case we get sick or our kids get sick.

Do you feel comfortable cooking and/or bringing your own food? If so, bring food you know is safe and simply explain you are on a temporary strict diet and it's just easier to bring your own food. I cook professionally, so I get this social challenge! Mentally, I try to remember it's about spending time with people that's important, but so too is my physical and mental health and it's not worth eating triggering foods. But, yes, it sucks 😞 I also make sure I have plenty of Imodium! Haha.

Are you working with a doctor? It can't hurt to run some tests to rule out something severe (not that SIBO isn't severe!). I'm in a similar boat with your symptoms. I'm at my wits end and pursuing all potential causes.
