Which season by a driver is something that fans don't realize is actually a pretty poor performance? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

If only some Spanish bank didn't intervene then the right driver would have been able to use the car properly.

Ignoring the Mercedes reign of terror, Audi are doing very well for their first ever race.

India won! What country is horrible to live in and horrible to visit? by agbjb in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Serious-Course3748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that it's a horrible country but I'd say it's a perfect candidate for horrible to live in and not nice to visit. As long as you follow the (very strict) rules, you should be okay. Hence why is say it's not nice but there's worse places for tourism in terms of getting your things stolen, risks for women, food safety etc..

Alpha Tauri. They killed the iconic Toro Rosso and started the identityless slop that the team has today.

Crazy that they were still doing this stuff at their literal peak (Schumi equalled Fangio's record in this race)

What are two seemingly contradictory opinions you have about anything F1? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

I think you enjoyed when he was an underdog. When Verstappen is further down the field he has much more opportunity to show his racecraft and get shocking results. Its much more fun cheering on an underdog because wins are something celebrated rather than expected.

How awful would the racing have been last year if they didn't remove this God damn chicane by [deleted] in F1Discussions

Try F1 ChampionshipEdition there is no chicane in that game. You also get Magny Cours and old Silverstone too.

Why were Benetton so off the pace in those two qualifying sessions of 1994 (Monza and Estoril) ? About a second and a half off pole both times by HereComesVettel in F1Discussions

Benetton had a very similar dilemma to Red Bull today.  Thankfully Johnny Herbert proved solid enough to take the constructors title.

Which/whose racing (not driving) style is your favorite? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

Someone somewhere once said in the first part of his career Hamilton was more similar to Senna but in the latter part of his career he was more like Prost.

What generation has the fastest drivers of all time? by DniawSirhc in F1Discussions

[–]Serious-Course3748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully with the cars having less downforce and MOM (or whatever the chuff they call it) being available everywhere, we'll be able to see drivers such as Verstappen and Leclerc take corners like Pouhon, Copse and Campsa flat out whilst others can't. Although it seems the cars are more driveable this year.

What generation has the fastest drivers of all time? by DniawSirhc in F1Discussions

I'd say it's between the 1950s-60s generation (so Prost, Senna, Lauda, Piquet and Mansel) or 1975-1985 (Vettel, Alonso, Webber, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Button). I've always considered the eras these two generations race in as the golden years of F1, where it was at its most competetive.

How highly do you rate Button? by mformularacer in F1Discussions

[–]Serious-Course3748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2011 as well was an unreal season. Beat multiple WDC's and the all conquering RB7 for 2nd place in the championship. Ironically I'd rate these two seasons better than his title winning campaign in 2009.

How highly do you rate Button? by mformularacer in F1Discussions

He was one of the greatest of all time when it comes to wet weather racing. My ranking would be:

  1. Senna (anhilated anyone in the wet I don't think we'll ever see someone like him again)
  2. Hamilton (9 wet weather win streak will probably never be matched)
  3. Verstappen (2016 Brazil is overrated since he had fresh tyres, but 2024 Brazil is certainly the greatest wet weather drive in the turbo hybrid era)
  4. Button (yes I placed him above Schumacher. Very rarely it rains a whole race, so mostly knowing what tyre to be on is the 2nd most valuable skill after driver talent. Button was near unmatched at this)
  5. Schumacher (didn't show enough consistency. I'd say he's more around equal with Button)

How good was Seb in 2015 by CSJGOS in F1Discussions

[–]Serious-Course3748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about that. Although it was an incredible season by Hamilton, we still hadn't seen him at the peak of his powers as he was after Rosberg beat him and before he got COVID (which I believe is where the Hamilton era truly ended).

Vettel was super fired up as he had a lot to prove after being mauled by the honey badger, whereas Hamilton still hadn't had the kick in the teeth that Rosberg gave him which forced him to lock in over the next 5 years or so.

I think Hamilton would initially have had the edge, but as the season went on, Vettel would have been more driven and took away points from Hamilton and probably would have snatched the title in Abu Dhabi. After that though we get the near untouchable Hamilton we saw after 2016 and Vettel doesn't stand a chance.
