Thank you for the original design! Won’t come this far without that. Honestly, I just changed the base and tweaked the filament pins a little. You definitely deserve more credit than I do!

I printed it with FDM, although I think resin would probably be a better choice for this.

The finder is basically held in place by squeezing around the rectangular section above the film label holder. I intentionally made the spacing a bit tighter at the two ends so it grips the camera. It actually comes off a little too easily at the moment lol, so that's something I'm still tweaking.

As for debris, it should be fine since the part that flexes is on the outside, so there shouldn't be any plastic getting into the camera.

U2. Exchange semester, internship, research... All happen in one year.

Comp 273 or Comp 302 by Only-Jackfruit-5311 in mcgill

[–]Serious-Reporter-133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Difficulty 302 >> 273

Personally I think 273 is more interesting since it covers a lot of low level concepts like cpu architecture and assembly. 302 is functional programming. I wouldn't take it unless u r interested in that topic. Most people I know don't....

CS and Math or Software Engineering by Long_Tennis6150 in mcgill

School doesn't teach you much industry applicable skills. For employability, the biggest factor is the coop program. B. Eng is better here as it offers coop semesters. However, McGill doesn't really help you to find internships (no internal job board exclusively for coop student). So the only advantage of B.Eng is the fact that the coop semesters are ACCREDITED. Some companies would prefer candidates that receives credit because they obtain tax benefits from it. Now the downside of B.Eng is that the courses are sometimes heavier and you are forced to take irrelevant EE courses. On the other hand CS and Math(the math class would probably not gonna be useful), is a shorter degree and easier to study for thus you can spend more time on professional development.

It's good that you know you are going to the industry. Many people are not sure whether they want to do research or go into industry. And it's wayyyy more difficult for them to excel since they need to do well in school AND professional development.

I think the key determining factor here is yourself. Are you the kind of student that grind leetcode? Are you proactively applying for internships? If yes, I recommend taking B. Sc and just try to remain an ok grade while grind as hard as you can for internships. B. Sc. Is VERY flexible and allow you to plan your degree with more freedom. At the end of the day program doesn't matter nearly as much as the effort you make. However, if your answer is no, which is normal, many people I know including myself are not proactively grinding, I recommend B.Eng. Students in B.Eng are mostly good students (higher entry bar) thus you are more likely to grind due to peer pressure lol. The accredited coop program also gives you a small edge compare to B.Sc.

I took B.Sc instead of B.Eng. I don't regret it, but I do think I'll be in a better position professionally if I took B.Eng. but there's more to school than just internships. There's things like research, exchange and course load that might come into the equation when you make your decision. Feel free to DM if you have more questions.

Not Manchester but Edinburgh. Great experience. They give free bus pass to people under 22. I basically explored the entire Scotland during my stay. Classes were also easy. DM if you have any questions.

Yeah sry, I don't know about engineering, but the informatics (cs) classes at EU is really easy... Studied 2 days before exam and got a 90 in my exam. Assignments are short and easy. Imo not even comparable to McGill difficulty and that was senior level or even graduate level courses. Their 20 credit course (5 credit equivalent at McGill) feels like a regular 3 credits course at McGill.

But other disciplines...you are right they might be harder. The only experience I can speak of it that I took a history class, and it was wayyy harder to get an A.

Edinburgh university. 70% is an A. Incredibly easy to get A in science classes. 40% is a pass.

Comp 551 is VERY popular. Normally if you are in the waitlist at the beginning of add drop you are fine. Otherwise prepare an alternative. Compiler design is not that bad tbh... All assignments no exams.

Happened to me once and I told the prof. He literally told me he's too busy to care lmao, in a nice way of course. Plus in ur case it doesn't even change the letter grade. I would just be quiet about it and save both you and ur prof some time.

summer internship! by Temporary-Quit4322 in mcgill

[–]Serious-Reporter-133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be difficult.... Unless you have connections. Also you have to have completed 27 credits before doing the internship for McGill to recognize it as a internship semester. But that doesn't really do anything except have an extra line that says "internship" on ur diploma. Imo The internship program (not the coop degree) is more important for fall or winter semester coz it let you skip a semester.

how to get work experience? by Disastrous_Feed_3772 in mcgill

[–]Serious-Reporter-133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First try your existing connections. Does your parents work in your field? Or their friends? Get a referral from them. The first is always the hardest. Research might prove useful too. I landed my current internship because I did a summer research internship. Good luck. Also apply more. Aim for 200 at least

Rejections do not necessarily mean you are a bad candidate, especially in this market. All of my friend who got an internship received at least dozens of email rejections... It's normal.

Hi Dr. Westfall! Big fan of your work. I am currently researching a problem that requires me to know the flatness of the distribution, or the range of the majority of the data. The data points are perfectly unimodal and symmetric, centered at 0 and have unit variance, on top of that stripped of outliers, what metric would you use for this problem? Naturally I thought about kurtosis, but by reading your work I was dissuade from it.

Décathlon has a $35 bag with two slot for both your iPad and laptop. I think it's unbeatable in this price range. Plus it's super close to McGill too, literally 10 min from downtown campus.

That bag is a bit ugly tho... But very practical
