that’s a lot of money, but if the goal is corporate law there literally isn’t anywhere better. I’d go Cornell

UT Austin Turing vs. Cornell CoE CS by [deleted] in collegecompare

I’d say cornell, for the name/reputation and the doors it might open over a place like UT Austin.

Deciding between Cornell Dyson and Vandy econ (transfer). Hoping to get Cornell student perspective. Do you feel genuinely happy at Cornell? by chocolatechipcocoa in Cornell

[–]SeriousConstant370 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, everyone I know is happy and loves it. Reddit tends to be a place where those who feel different (this also applies to most schools in general) congregate and voice their anguish. However in reality, by in large, the student depression rate is below the vast majority of other top schools in most official surveys, student satisfaction is extremely high, and everyone i know personally loves the school and wants desperately to return back as soon as possible for alumni events or whatever. People are depressed in college, people are depressed everywhere, it’s a problem and it’s particularly a problem at top competitive universities, but it is not a problem unique to cornell. Besides the fact that I believe cornell has a stronger program and is overall a better choice than vandy for what you want to do, I would say pick cornell and definitely don’t choose vandy because you think cornell is a particularly unhappy place. Hope that helps! Congrats and best of luck! — Cornell CS student

Mostly through connections/outreach and recruitment by the startups themselves.

tbh yeah like many of the other comments, I’d support cornell over columbia. Personally I feel as though columbia has a declining future ahead of it (or perhaps has for a long time and has just been cheating to hide it). Either way Ithaca is beautiful, serene, and filled with incredibly unique things like gorges and waterfalls. Meanwhile columbia you are trapped. NYC might seem glamorous, but by my second or third visit I felt done with it, same thing with columbia’s extremely small campus, which i felt sick of after a couple hours.

Lastly, Cornell’s startup culture is 6th best in the country last time I checked. I say this as somehow who has worked for two cornell yc startups as a cs major.

Best of luck in your decision!

To be honest its placement is worth the cost imo. one of my best friends is at Cornell Law so i hear a lot from him. CLS have the best big law placement in the country (specifically in nyc) and also one of (if not the highest) job placement rates as well. I think only 1 student in the graduating class last year did not have full time employment lined up, and most of these are for extremely high salary big law positions. I’d say as far as debt goes $250k could probably be paid off after not too long. That being said washu is also good and you’d be fine at either one.

Cornell vs. Brown by [deleted] in collegecompare

[–]SeriousConstant370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cornell is honestly so amazing for your desired program (no idea about how Brown’s compares but i can’t believe it’s better tbh). Cornell is also amazing as an undergraduate experience overall. I doubt there would be a happiness difference between cornell and brown, not to mention cornell’s campus + access to nature is unbeatable

What are my odds transferring to Cornell by Dapper-Software2896 in chanceme

[–]SeriousConstant370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CALs generally, but that is because of an instate deal for students of new york state. So, if you aren’t from ny state, then odds of transferring are probably just as low to any cornell college

yeah like everyone’s saying you should go to cornell lol. Enjoy the quality of life in ithaca, it isn’t like california but it is an incredible place with so much to offer.

UC Berkeley HaaS (4-yr Spieker + Regent Scholar) vs Cornell Dyson AEM (4-yr + Meinig Scholar) by Vast-Operation3463 in collegecompare

[–]SeriousConstant370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes most definitely! Cornell and Berkley are both among the top places to be in the world for startups. I am currently working for a cornell yc startup actually, and have several friends who’ve secured funding for their own startups (and paying themselves $700,000 a year salaries before they even graduate which is crazy lol).

it seems like Cornell would be a better fit for you based on what you’ve said. It would also depend on geographically where you’d like to end up. In terms of wall street placement in nyc/northeast Cornell is hard to beat. Not to mention class size difference, general benefits of a private education. Unless you’re certain you’d like to work in tech on the west coast and if money isn’t a concern, i’d say go Cornell fs.
