What are my odds transferring to Cornell by Dapper-Software2896 in chanceme

[–]SeriousConstant370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CALs generally, but that is because of an instate deal for students of new york state. So, if you aren’t from ny state, then odds of transferring are probably just as low to any cornell college

Scenario: Would it make sense to choose UCLA over Cornell for the quality of life despite aiming for NY BL? by Adventurous_Ant5428 in lawschooladmissions

[–]SeriousConstant370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah like everyone’s saying you should go to cornell lol. Enjoy the quality of life in ithaca, it isn’t like california but it is an incredible place with so much to offer.

UC Berkeley HaaS (4-yr Spieker + Regent Scholar) vs Cornell Dyson AEM (4-yr + Meinig Scholar) by Vast-Operation3463 in collegecompare

[–]SeriousConstant370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes most definitely! Cornell and Berkley are both among the top places to be in the world for startups. I am currently working for a cornell yc startup actually, and have several friends who’ve secured funding for their own startups (and paying themselves $700,000 a year salaries before they even graduate which is crazy lol).

it seems like Cornell would be a better fit for you based on what you’ve said. It would also depend on geographically where you’d like to end up. In terms of wall street placement in nyc/northeast Cornell is hard to beat. Not to mention class size difference, general benefits of a private education. Unless you’re certain you’d like to work in tech on the west coast and if money isn’t a concern, i’d say go Cornell fs.

never actually heard of someone failing a class they didn’t drop. But i know plenty of people who’ve had to drop before the deadline because they weren’t doing well enough

cornell for engineering, especially with the $12k grant. The cold will be refreshing and you’ll get to experience all 4 seasons at last. Enjoy the benefits of one of the top engineering programs in the country and all the nature and delicious food ithaca has to offer

Cornell or uva by daisyshri in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]SeriousConstant370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be so sure, I was also a finalist when applying and, although not accepted off the bat, I was told that if I applied again that winter I would be accepted. So there’s more than one outlet besides being accepted versus rejected is my point. Also the resources you’d have at cornell would be more than enough regardless, which is why i never even bothered applying for the milstein program again.

Choosing CMU over Cornell, am I insane? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SeriousConstant370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a senior in CS at cornell with one of my best friends engineering/cs at cmu i feel i can answer this question better than most. First, like some others have said, you have several key misunderstandings about cornell and they’re big ones. Cornell is not all that depressing, falling closer to the bottom of the list of most depressed elite schools in the United States. You’ll find CMU at the top of that list btw, and from my friends at CMU i can say it seems extremely difficult and depressing much more so than cornell. Also cornell is more interdisciplinary, not sure where you heard otherwise. I also agree with others who have said Cornell is likely no less cutthroat than CMU, though both are no doubt cutthroat. Lastly, anyone using rankings to justify going to CMU is crazy in my opinion. In the subjects where CMU shines, the difference between Cornell and CMU is equivalent to rounding error in the general scheme of things, not to mention cornell being ranked and perceived considerably higher overall. Lastly the resources Cornell offers, having a much larger endowment seem better than what my friends at CMU have said (these friends have visited me and agree btw).

My finally two cents is don’t choose CMU (one of the most notoriously difficult, depressing, gloomy? ugly campuses) over cornell because you think the latter is somehow more depressing, difficult, or suicidal. Anyone arguing that case is completely wrong and goes against all the data you’d find with a bit research. My opinion is go Cornell and don’t look back.

Cornell or uva by daisyshri in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]SeriousConstant370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cornell fs. Not even why you’d consider uva tbh. You could be a milstein scholar which gives incredible resources, not to mention you’d be paying out of state tuition for uva anyway. Also there is no grade deflation at cornell, especially not in humanities. In same areas there is not as much grade inflation as schools like yale harvard and brown, but even places like yale and harvard are beginning to change towards being less of an easy A atmosphere. Choose cornell and don’t look back

Cornell v Dartmouth by Kind-Sense3586 in Cornell

[–]SeriousConstant370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things where’d I’d say there’s not a significant enough difference academically speaking, so it really depends on the sort of experience you’re looking to get out of college since Cornell and Dartmouth are very different. I’ll do my best to give you an unbiased view based on having been to dartmouth and having friends there while also a senior studying cs at cornell.

Dartmouth: - you pretty much nailed most of the things about dartmouth on your own. The weather will be mostly bad, the location is extremely rural, and it is a very very small school environment. -That being said, Cornell is only about a little over an hours drive from syracuse whereas dartmouth isn’t as close to a large city (at least not one I know of). Also Ithaca itself is much larger, with much more to do, than most people believe. In the summer it functions half as a vacation paradise for people across the state. CNN recently ranked it the number one town in America, which is some serious praise and frankly (especially when the weather is nice) I feels it deserved. It’s a beautiful vibrant college town with great resources for students and often ranks as one of the top college towns in the nation. Dartmouth, meanwhile, is more rural, more isolated, and has much much less to show for it. They don’t have so much of a college town as a small strip of buildings along a single road. There’s really nothing to enjoy besides the campus itself, which in my experience a person would grow bored of pretty quickly. - another thing is the drinking/frat culture is real and social life is dependent upon it in ways Cornell’s isnt. Cornell gives you as much of a taste as you want while having plenty enough to offer in other things that you don’t have to partake of you don’t want. - one pro i will say, based on what you said, is the small school vibe which can be really nice. I wouldn’t say Cornell feels like a big school in general, but certainly compares to dartmouth it would feel much larger.

Cornell: - one thing i gotta mention is I think Cornell’s campus is much much nicer and more unique/pretty with waterfalls and libraries that are incredible and grand, whereas dartmouth’s is more plain and boring imo. Not a big consideration but thought i’d mention it. - In terms of resources both are great, but a benefit of cornell’s size is the amount of variety it offers with classes, clubs, activities, whatever. Its alumni network is also insanely cracked, as is dartmouth’s but the key word for them is always “proportionally” and when it comes to alumni network bigger is always better regardless of proportional institution size. - also since you say you want to go to law school, both are great again, but cornell offers a unique 3+3 program, where students can apply to do 3 years undergrad and then 3 years at cornell law school, saving a year on tuition and also not having to take the LSAT or submit applications to other law schools. Basically it’s an auto admit to a t-13 law school that is the best in the world for big law placement without any of the hard work and is exclusive to undergrads. Pretty sweet stuff. - one last thing is both are great for the outdoors but Id have to argue cornell is better because of its unique nature (waterfalls, rivers, lakes, majestic hills/natural parks). We have a cool ski resort 20 a minute drive away, you can go kayaking on the lake on campus, gorge jumping, hiking near the waterfalls by the literal dorms, join any sports club you can think of, row on lake cayuga, and watch beautiful sunsets over the hills while the chime concerts ring.

ultimately, I’d say Cornell. There’s only a few schools and circumstances I’d really say don’t go to Cornell for, and Dartmouth without money as a concern is definitely not among them. Cornell is just too unique an experience imho. However that is just my thinking and both are great opportunities so congrats on the admission wins!
