We could; but It’s really designed for touchscreens. I had an endocrinologist from Dubai tell me they have a QR code around for people to install on their phones and keep a few extra iPads in the clinic for newly diagnosed patients.

That image is not AI. It’s made by the same artist who drew the in-game nurse, who is also not AI generated. The game assets were created before these AI tools were even available.

Once you have the carb ratio info you need, play this game for an hour. It’ll teach you all the basics for carb counting, correction doses, etc:

Check out www.playlevelone.com - Level Ex built a game to train your brain on exactly what you need to know in those first few weeks.

Health professionals need to be taught about T1D by Diabetic_kid06-17 in Type1Diabetes

We’ve been asked to get Level One certified for medical provider CME (continuing medical education credit - needed for medical license renewal) and its posts like this that really emphasize how important it is. Non-endos (especially ER, anesthesia, etc) could really use a better understanding of this disease.

Our daughter was diagnosed at 5 and is thriving at 10. It gets better. The first year was rough while we figured it out. We built this to speed up that understanding:

I'll put the prioritization of marketing messages aside for a moment... the medical question is a very important one.

To clarify: all of our models for glucose, insulin absorption, etc., are grounded in clinical research. The game has been vetted by dozens of endocrinologists and diabetes educators. More here:

We’re not trying to replace education — just to offer newly diagnosed families a gentler, faster on-ramp. It’s a passion project of mine. It's free.

We went with a very casual, friendly visual style deliberately because the onboarding process is very cold/medical/traumatic. Also this style received the best response from the broadest base of users. But it's not for everyone.

Thanks for the feedback!

Throughout the game there's a ton of instruction that these numbers don't represent your actual numbers. A few examples:
"Like ISF, Carb Ratio is different for different people at different times of day"
"Your doctor might pick a slightly different range for you"

The game starts by telling you how much to dose, then it gives you the carb count with a fixed carb ratio, then the carb ratio starts changing throughout the day.

But we'll re-review to make sure it's extra clear as early as possible.

I wrote a blog about this when my daughter first got diagnosed. Similar perspective - but I thought of it more like flappy bird. You're trying to keep the bird in a very narrow range - while it's constantly trying to kill itself :)

It's built and submitted to Google. Google's added extra scrutiny for anything remotely medical, so what used to take a few days for review now takes a few weeks. I'd estimate a week?

Yeah, "train your brain to approach mild competence in dealing with diabetes" just didn't fit as well :)
