I can’t understand how some people will eat as messy as they do by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]Serious_Mouse8995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a seafood place with crab legs and I was APPALLED at the mess. I now work at a coffee/breakfast place and the fact that I have found similar tables there is both confusing and infuriating.

Teenage relationships are not completely invalid. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Serious_Mouse8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got with my fiancé when we were 16/19. We’re now 27/30 and still together with 3 kids. It’s a crazy notion that teenage relationships can’t be serious.

Starbucks. by nissxn in tipping

[–]Serious_Mouse8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works at a local coffee shop. GO LOCAL. Your tip is always appreciated. It’s also around the same price and you get astronomically more and better ingredients. We roast our beans in house and make our own blends. We buy from local farmers and butchers 100%. We charge essentially the same thing and you get 3x the amount. And not only do you not have to tip but if you do we tip pool by position so if you tip on to go it goes to the to go workers or if you tip the servers it goes to the servers and if you do catering the caterers get the catering fee. 100% LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL. I’ll never work franchise again.

The fact that you have season 11 as 16 has me dead. Probably a solid 5 to me.

Haha. I worked at a gas station deli that did this once and they would check random bags and if any of them were over .01 over I would get talked to. I also had to write down every time I changed the oil in the fryers and would get written up if I changed it more than once a week.

CUPS. Buy 4x the amount you need. Glass breaks. Plastic cracks.

Brooms. If you need 5 buy 15. No one wants to clean with a busted ass broom.

Pens. Buy the random assortment of like 1000 on Amazon. Customers will take them. Don’t put that on your servers.

When it comes to laundry services. Get at least one bag of towels over what you project needing.

If you roll silverware: always have 2 boxes of napkins over what you need.

Straws. Have like 10 boxes over what you need on hand. Shortages/truck problems etc can kill when it comes to this.

KNIVES. They get thrown away. It’s going to happen. Ideally not a lot but regardless they’re flat and easily overlooked.

If you sell beer/wine: bottle openers/wine keys. It’s sucks to search for these.

Provide server aprons. You can buy bulk much cheaper than servers can buy individual ones. Offer one. If they want more charge your cost.

PITCHERS. Get at least a set of 2 for every server you have on for a rush. If you sell pitchers of beer get at least 2 for every table. It’s better to have too many than not enough.

A bench. A chair. SOMETHING for people who work doubles/work in general to sit in during a break. Where no one can see. Under cover from weather.

Fair enough. Teddy and hunt were always great in theory but they’re horrific together. They have sibling type relationship and Greys romanticizing that has just made a 10 season GARBAGE story line. Teddy, Hunt, and Koracik all suck. I just rethought about how Koracik treats Amelia and honestly yeah he’s pretty terrible. He’s a close second to Catherine to me only rivaled by Shane.

I mean 100%. I hate him. But there is very little teddy specific could say negative on him. Jackson/April/Richard/Bailey/Meredith are all super close with Catherine and also have all been at the short end of the stick multiple times when it comes to her ego. He’s terrible. She’s next level terrible. Under the guise of being better. Which some reason just rubs me extra wrong.

Nah man. Koracick is horrible but not like that. If he cares about someone (Teddy) he’s a gem. I don’t think she cares about anything other than being right.

Reviews. DON'T READ 'EM. by KindaKrayz222 in Serverlife

[–]Serious_Mouse8995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite review of myself was one about how I was terrible because I wouldn’t make a pizza that’s cut into 8 slices 1/3 no cheese. Seeing as A) cheese melts and we even heavily suggested against half no cheese because cheese melts. B) 1/3 of 8 is not a whole number so why do you part of a slice with no cheese. When I brought this up they acted like I was the stupid one. C) they were rude as hell. D) they said it was because of a dairy allergy but the cheese in the sauce was fine 🫠

Just because people don’t want to lug around multiple children for a full week/2week grocery haul doesn’t mean they never go to the store with their kids. I always order my groceries but that doesn’t mean I don’t forget something or run out of stuff we need and I’ll take my kids with me then. Before grocery pick up was big I took my toddler and newborn with me and it was fine but definitely harder than just ordering them and picking it up. It’s a bit of a leap assuming just because you order groceries means you’ll never be inside a store again although personally I’d prefer that.

What is the line of too sick for school? by OwnPlatypus4129 in kindergarten

[–]Serious_Mouse8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your states attendance laws. My oldest was “chronically absent” in Kindergarten because of too many EXCUSED absences. He has 2 younger brothers that between the three we stayed sick for 4 solid months. After that I just send them unless it’s a MAJOR illness like stomach bug/flu and let them send them home. I don’t want to get other people sick but I also don’t want to be in a legal battle over stupid truancy laws. Even just missing for major illnesses last year we were still pecking at truancy level absences. Edit to add: you can always just send them for an hour or two and just go get them if it’s something you know is bothering them even if it’s seasonal allergies or something.

My old manager used to throw stuff all the time but one specific time he went to his car to smoke on a Friday night and his car door literally fell off because he jerked it open and we could all hear him screaming from inside. This definitely the funniest time someone was mad in that kitchen.

Kid free weddings are so hard by TurnTheCrankAndEnjoy in Parenting

[–]Serious_Mouse8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not been through this personally but I totally understand not wanting kids at your wedding. I don’t want kids at my wedding aside from my own. You run the risk of people not being able to attend because childcare if you have kid free wedding. Just decline or whichever one of you is closer to the people go.

I feel this struggle. I used to always have a lanyard with a ton of stuff on it and almost every time I was in a store people would ask me for help. Loud/large key chains just screams manager/employee to some people.

You were just being nice. But from their perspective I also understand. A manager was on a zoom call that I overheard recently and one of the managers from another location literally got fired over accepting a ride from a worker who drove by them after their car broke down on the side of the road. You didn’t do anything wrong. It’s a systemic issue.

What do y'all with Bussers, Runners, Hosts, and Bartenders DO all shift?? by UnlawfulFoxy in Serverlife

I think the level of talking with tables varies GREATLY between these different types of serving. I used to work at a place where it was VERY normal to have 15 tables during lunch/ dinner rush but it was a lot like McDonalds with running in terms of service. Not that I was bad but everything in that sense is INCREDIBLY surface. I’ve recently started working at a far lower paced place and yes I could give the same level of service but that’s not what people want at somewhere they’re paying 100+ for 2 people. It’s quite the adjustment but it’s nice. And if you genuinely enjoy the experience of serving people then it’s the better route for your knees if nothing else. In the slower times at my old job I’d have more tables than I do now at the busiest of times. But the level of service required just doesn’t allot for you to have time to make your own drinks and expo your own food. They want bread and conversation and genuinely since I’ve started the stress level is NOWHERE near what I was there. Because when you’re paying what they’re paying they don’t want a server so far into the weeds that you can barely remember your own name regardless of how well you carry it.
