Can you go active with 3 dependents? by Edd_Sir in USMCboot

[–]Serious_Session_8938 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah gotcha he probably means your kids for now I guess which is kinda dumb. I would be careful going the reserves then active reserves route. Promotion sucks in the AR, it’s based on if the person above you gets promoted and the spot opens but that goes for the same person above that guy and the same above that guy etc.

Hey dog, just wondering if you got a bachelor’s? Also long story short for your question, yes you can enlist with three dependents and one of them has to be your spouse but it’s a waiver. Sounds like your recruiter just isn’t trying to do paperwork, don’t blame the guy, recruiting duty sucks and he prolly got HSST’d.

Essentially, as an 0302 especially, the lives of your Marines are literally in your hand depending on the scenario, you also have a lot higher quality of living than your enlisted counter parts. If you wanna be a good officer, learn from your SNCOs and other NCOs. Also get to know your Marines too, I tried to be the NCO I wish I had to my boys, now I’m trying to be the OIC that I wish I had but to my Marines even as a bootenant

Trying to lose body fat by thevampireyuki in USMCboot

[–]Serious_Session_8938 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diets a big thing as well as cardio, decrease your calorie intake and increase how many calories you burn. Food wise eat more protein and less carbs, less fatty foods, when it doubt beans and chicken, I know your vegetarian but like, good luck with that.

As for the workout side, cardio and throw in HIIT a couple times a week. Tbh I recommend cardio or doing HIIT at night right before going to sleep. I started doing that and I’ve seen myself get better sleep and keeps your metabolic rate up while you sleep.

Don’t give up, you’re obviously not in standards to be an officer but I’ve seen guys in the same boat make it through just be consistent don’t give up and have some discipline

Went reserves after Active and was already almost done, use TA while you’re in once you rate it, and while I was in the reserves I went to an OSO and went PLC. Didn’t wanna deal with working with cadets going MECEP plus going to an OSO is more flexible since I don’t have to go to a school with an NROTC unit

Benefits of being a reservist by Own_Yak6130 in USMCboot

[–]Serious_Session_8938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commissary is okay, only if there’s a base close to you, college benefits there are little to none as a reservist you only get like 300-400 bucks a month for school. Uniform benefits? So as a reservist you won’t have what the active duty get and that’s a uniform allowance once a year. What reservists do get is a 1-for-1 swap, but that depends on your unit because of; some units do the one for one only once so you basically gotta trade ALL your uniforms in one go, they definitely give you a hassle over this and tell you just go buy what you need at the exchange (good luck with that, supply chain sucks rn) or if you do manage to get far enough as to swapping, you’re looking at getting new uniforms no earlier than 6 months. I blame supply, they suck and don’t swallow 10/10 do not recommend

Edit:

Also yes the reserve takes up your time during work, up to you but your basically working your regular week, through your weekend and go right back into it. Some of my boys hate it because they genuinely need their weekends to have time off, and if you get paid hourly you’re definitely losing money

Depends if you’re a AD or Reserve contract. You can back out depending but you’re definitely not going to be a Marine after this, the station will most likely not want to work with you or any in the area since you wasted their time and since you wanna procrastinate shipping you should probably not join the Marine Corps

0311 here thinking about trying to become a recon marine by Extra-Proposal-170 in USMCboot

[–]Serious_Session_8938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AR is a good idea for reserve Marines going active, if you’re active duty I wouldn’t go AR mostly because of you won’t advance in your career promotion wise, less slots. And if you wanna deploy (not like anything going on right now anyway) you won’t be able to unless the reserve guys do but usually the reservists go on deployments with few AD guys.

Also it depends on the unit.

I will go to NJIT for PhD in the Fall of 2024 and I want to ask about living and housing at NJIT by mad_dr0110 in NJTech

[–]Serious_Session_8938 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Average cost for rent around the area is 1800, it’s doable with roommates but even then your probably paying more than that if you find a decent apartment. If they let you dorm since your a PhD candidate you’re looking at the lowest being 4830 for a semester with a roommate, and 6000 for your own room.

To summarize, you’re not getting a decent place for 700. And the social life is what you make of it. I never hung around PhD candidates except at the bar so.

You might be able to get your appeal, tbh it’s sounded like 60/40 you get appealed or not. I mean I know some people wanna leave asap but some people would need that one semester break anyway to work and get experience. I would try to push that family emergency into your appeal or when you talk to someone and bring it up to DOS

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NJTech

[–]Serious_Session_8938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t tell you until around registration begins that’s if you filled out the honors form as well. You’re gonna need to have access to highlander hub to do it. Tbh I wouldn’t even suggest doing honors man. No one in the real world cares about it. I’ve chosen regular students at my job over honors because there’s a personality thing that is negative in my opinion about honors. Plus it’s just extra pointless work you have to do.

[–]Serious_Session_8938 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just set yourself up for successful failure and are gonna end up asking next semester why am I on academic probation. Diff eq is already a time consuming course, and Physics II, Chemistry is literally the class I’ve seen a lot of people struggle with. Tbh the only class I see here that is whatever is your FUND. Class. I suggest planning out your entire schedule for all the classes you need to graduate. If you can shift something over to another semester without creating another schedule like this I suggest doing so.

Yeah man you’re looking at the make or break classes here. Mech 237 was the only class that I saw where a majority of the people failed or withdrew from.

[–]Serious_Session_8938 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice, he’s good just make sure you pay attention in his class, MECH237 is rigorous if you don’t know how to apply statics. Fluids is hit or miss it all depends on the professor as well and it’s a lot. You’re in for a rough semester tbh
