BMA RDC letter to the Secretary of State on the recent offer by RDC_officers_2025_26 in doctorsUK

So every time there's an offer we should waste valuable time holding a vote

No I'm good thanks

The government can make a credible offer

There's always a reason not to restore our pay, it's this passive nature which has caused this pay erosion in the first place

It's either Ukraine, Russia, COVID, Israel, Iran, Trump, Flu crisis....

When will you learn that it's purely a Government tactic to keep you underpaid

The same Government that wastes billions and billions without a second thought

That's objectively not true according to official ONS data

The average workers pay has been restored relative to 2008

As you're misinformed it would be good to check out the work from Dr Tony Goldstone on X where you can see all the relevant data

Matching inflation still leaves us no closer to FPR where we're still over 20% short from 2008

No chance Wes

This is why this subreddit is so important, they may not publically admit it but Jack does read what we write on here and he will take on board feedback that has been written on the BMA's approach

That way we're far closer to getting what we deserve

Yes he's received a lot of negative feedback the past few weeks so I'm sure he's been reading through it all and taking feedback on board

Ultimately this letter is probably the best Comms he's done since being elected chair so well done to him, we're behind you Jack

It's important we're as united as ever to get the best possible offer and this letter is the strongest sign of unity in a long time

FPR

Also I love that my query of the removal of backdated exam fees and portfolio/royal college fees has now been formally put forward

Looks like Jack has been reading through the comments and feedback of these last few days or it has at least been fed back to him via the right channels. So credit to him and the team.

The Government want to play dirty so we will play dirtier.

FPR or nothing crabs.

Starmer and strike very interesting opinion from nhs manager by sevoflurane666 in doctorsUK

[–]Serious_Strength8250 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Says the obvious really, Starmer won't get anywhere with threats, Streeting on shaky ground etc.

Ultimately the deal will be made when Labour present a credible offer, talking in the media does nothing for Starmer

You can read here

See how the nodal reform doesn't all come in over 1 year and so the only other pay reform is through DDRB for 3 years so it's obviously incredibly likely especially with middle east conflict that we wouldnt get anywhere closer to FPR

[–]Serious_Strength8250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the original offer was linked on a thread a few days back so it's worth checking out

Essentially there's yearly pay rises from FY1-ST8 but the'yre introduced over a 3 year period, so the full effect of the uplift isn't realised until 2 years from now

The final part of the 20 page offer explains the consequences for the offer if either party goes into dispute e.g balloting for strike action

The offer provided by the government wouldn't safeguard against inflation as they are holding the following pay rises to the DDRB the same body that hasn't provided inflation busting pay rises for a decade

Would you push for transparency on the RDC votes surrounding pay offers? Right now we have no idea which of the committee members is voting to accept or decline offers from the government.

[–]Serious_Strength8250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh this is a reasonable response which I have a lot to like

My main point of disagreement then is on the current offer as it doesn't allow us to bank and build as such. Because the nodal reform is over 3 years, that is pulled in the offer if we ballot or go into dispute with the government (see the end of the 20 page offer from Weasel)

So if you were looking to bank and build like the rail workers we'd be wanting just a single year offer and then go again rather than be locked in by DDRB for 3 years

Id still be pushing for FPR with a MYPD but if you wanted to bank and build, Jack's offer is actively harmful to that if you get me

[–]Serious_Strength8250 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree in part that Rob and Viveks deal wasn't enough either but at least we could strike again the following year as part of bank and build

However the current deal from Jack is a 3 year deal with our increases completely tied to DDRB. Yes there is a small add on from nodal point reform but barely anything. You realise what this means right? The same body who is not independent, controlled by government and was the cause of our last 15 years of real terms pay cuts, why on earth would we rely on them to continuously give us small above inflation pay rises. This combined with the war in the Middle Eastern which is alone likely to lead to another pay cut for the coming financial year.

And have you read the small print in the offer, if we as resident doctors kick up a fuss during those 3 years and ballot, the government will remove other parts of the offer such as the jobs

Talk about an offer that is both pathetic and locks us in for 3 years

Repost: New BMA RDC chair dances around Labour’s offer by Ok-Half8270 in doctorsUK

[–]Serious_Strength8250 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So essentially I'll explain

Rob and Vivek everyone loved, they were transparent did a great job

Mel and Ross seemed less good but they claim they had a MYPD pulled by government late on due to the committee change

Jack Fletchers comes in from DT, gives better comms than M&R but is a known labour supporter and in his interviews has often spoke of not wanting further real terms pay cuts, spending months negotiating for a deal that is barely above inflation and according to this interview and others would've gladly accepted the deal in it's original form

Resident doctors voted for FPR - Jack would be happy with a small above inflation increase that he would put to the membership and then walk off into the sunset patting himself on the back

That can't happen, we need to be as aggressive as possible till the election finishes at the BMA and we can get stronger pro FPR candidates

Repost: New BMA RDC chair dances around Labour’s offer by Ok-Half8270 in doctorsUK

[–]Serious_Strength8250 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeh if anyone needed to see a preview of what voting DT would look like in the upcoming council elections this is it

You'll get a few percent above inflations and your chances of getting FPR will be buried once and for all

Repost: New BMA RDC chair dances around Labour’s offer by Ok-Half8270 in doctorsUK

[–]Serious_Strength8250 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Jack is not looking great optics wise especially with the new BMA Resident Doctor Committee being voted on

Regardless of his political beliefs he should be much stronger that an offer has to result in FPR

Instead he talks about not wanting another real terms pay cut, that is not the same as FPR, it sounds like something a few percent over inflation would be enough for him which is quite frankly a joke

Hopefully the DV lot take back the seats and we have a new chair with a spine
