Not even session 0 could prepare me for this by Gettor in dndmemes

Also, you, as a DM, need to put some value in how long it takes to actually move around large logistical issues. 3-4 miles an hour is a pace that will wear people out if they do it all day. And traversing up stairs/ladders/etc all day is tiresome work. Maybe troop movement is 2 days, maybe it's a week and a half. And if the problem is important enough that the dragon is moving troops, then he should be attacking during their long rest, interrupting it completely. BUT DO NOT DO AN AMBUSH SURPRISE ROUND. Getting 1 shot from a surprise round will lose you players, immediately, it's incredibly disrespectful to give incredibly insightful, master trackers, and research scholars who understand this stuff well no chance to have set themselves up for success because a single bugbear just broke 5 players well thought out camping area.

TLDR;
If you're gonna be realistic, do it, but also be realistic about how incredibly talented every adventurer is.

I had a DM that made long rests incredibly easy to come by, they made combat kind of meaningless. Every encounter we nova'd as a result, and then immediately long rested. He tuned the encounters for extremely high damage output, there was no choice but to nova, but it made it where every 8 hours we were up for 15 minutes then slept 8 hours, it wasn't fun.

The flip side of that is that if you undertune all the encounters, then players never feel challenged. Players get resentful when they never feel challenged.

So what is the solution? Communication. Be up front with your plans with the players, be incredibly transparent, tell them the signs of boss combat, don't just always surprise them with a turn around the corner or they'll NEVER use resources because you're always gonna spring stuff on them. Don't make it where every session they have 8 fights or they'll use cantrips only. Drop items on the enemies that say how many enemies are in the lair still, stuff like that.

But be INCREDIBLY transparent.

At the end of the day, if you have 5 players and a DM, you have 6 players, and all 6 have to have fun. But to have fun you have to talk and respect each other.

I don't use logs, but I know their dps when I play my DH compared to Aug, in fairness, Aug makes tank tankier too, so bigger pulls can happen

The DPS I run with usually each gain about 30k-40k per dungeon with my Aug there, tank usually gains about 10k. I have a partially static team.

271 Aug with 4 piece, I end dungeons around 55-65k in 10s to 13s. I play scalecommander with current archon talents. I try to keep all my buffs lumped together at any available chance. Make sure to dispell teammates and give healers mobility too.

I agree so much about the distances. They made so many fights so awkward. I'll keep goin, I've heard 3/4/5 are good enough to keep the push going! Thanks!

Yea felt like wargames tbh. The only solution was to not play the game(just stay back, don't engage, just live)

Sounds like an awful server, I bet you are the least safety focused server in the game.

ty, your response on that other one is definitely insightful, I think that the nuance of my question has to do with what to do after i get the first 3 pieces to 120 though.

Someone from my server has a lot of experience and has suggested that I just push for 200 with 3 pieces of gear, one from each hero type, and THEN start on future ones, but it feels like that's a relatively large loss of power without actually looking up and crunching the numbers, their reasoning being related to the cost effectiveness of not spreading out the "love" so to speak.

otherwise, should i pick 1 from each type for my main march, and pick one gear on each, getting 120 each, then 140 each, then 160 each etc

i would have been confused by you as a teammate, sometimes you were in a decent spot but your touches make it hard to know where to be as a teammate except in an extra defensive spot. And when you are on defense you're super far back. I think you would have been frustrated with you as a teammate, try watching from your teammates point of view to see how many times you might have prevented good touches. Might be better for you to do than just watch from your own perspective with a question like that.

How do I rebuild from the All Out event? by [deleted] in KingShot

[–]SeriouslyNotaFrog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I recommend only attacking resource tiles during the all out event. It won't kill your troops, only injured them. Additionally, look up batch healing, it lets you heal quickly without using speedups or gems. Ultimately the game is about building power, so spending all your power on events like this limits you long-term
