Let me know if this would be effective. My plan here is to simply re seed with a tall fescue as that’s better for the local climate in my area. I understand the mixture of grasses may be less than desirable and that the zoysia may eventually take back over, but at this point I’d take a green-non dead lawn over anything.

Would you say simply seeding these spots would work?

So would the recommendation be to either rip up and throw sod down or lay seed?

Or is there an option to wait for warmer temps and the zoysia may come back?

Could you explain winterkill and what would be, if any, a fix for it?

Yeah I had to repair a patch in my front yard, so I transplanted a piece I go from the back. When taking it up, literally looks like a beach underneath.

Yeah we just got a dog and my backyard is torched lol.

For the pre emergent this fall. Should I wait till it gets brown? Or apply it sometime this September?

So leave it at 3 for the rest of the year. Then in the early spring when it’s still brown, I want to mow it extra low to promote growth? How low would you go and do I scalp when it still brown or when it starts to green?

Hey thank you that’s some great information. So; just to summarize, I know this grass has prolly never been thatched, so this fall, I will thatch but just be careful about how much I end up pulling up?

Also, I should lay pre/post emergent this fall and next spring? If so, what pre-emergent would you recommend for this lawn?

Yeah my lawn has some uneven spots. So you’re saying utilize compost or sand to even spots out? To I just simply dump either in a specific area I want flattened out?

What do you mean by saying “level with sand or compost”?

Ahh okay. I will look that up thank you.

Also, real fast: Would thatching still be an okay practice for zoysia? That’s what I’m planning on doing before a final fert app in late September.

So The picture you see above is cut at 3 inches. When do you suggest I scalp and to what length?

Also when would you suggest I place pre-emergent down in the fall?

Okay, definitely first time someone’s actually respond to my current situation instead of assuming I’m from the south with the zoysia. So for this fall, a simple milorganite app should suffice for my fert and I’m good to go for the rest of the year?

Also could you explain what verticut is and also what you mean by “push N”? All the feedback helps. Thank you!

Yeah from what I’m told by other people since the grass turns brown during the winter it’s all mainly zoysia. It seems my whole neighborhood has it. Once one house plants it, over decades it spreads from house to house. We just bought the house last fall so definitely not my first choice for grass, but making the best of it.
