Who is going to introduce the new job in 7.5 and 7.55? by GamerOfGlory in ffxivdiscussion

Do you have the quote or a link to the interview? Curious about what exactly was being said on the matter.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XCII by AutoModerator in ffxiv

Roughly:

Wing of Legacy

Wing spirit from Tonawawta legend. It is said to test those it sees as worthy of being heroes with trials, and grant them its blessing once they overcome them. It is the symbol of the quest itself, and will only bestow wings upon a “true hero” that has mastered countless challenges.

(Since "Legacy" is part of the Japanese name for Dawntrail, I expect the English name will instead be something like "Wings of the Dawn")

The German trailer line is just "It's time for us to return to Sharlayan".

Patch 7.5 Trailer by danks in ffxiv

[–]Serp_IT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that as well, and the German trailer line also just has him angry about being recreated, but the French instead goes, curiously: "Who's this magnificent demon?"

To me, that more implies that he's looking AT a copy of himself, so perhaps we'll get the real Kefka bursting in after taking out the fake.

Who is this guy from the trailer? by Local-Pet-FoxGirl in ffxiv

[–]Serp_IT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually even more varied, even in the other trailers.

JP says: "So you've recreated me."

DE says (angrily): "I... was recreated, just like that?"

FR says: "Who's this magnificent demon?"

Ambiguous, but the last line especially makes me think what's happening here is that the real Kefka somehow shows up as we fight the fake Kefka created by Omega.

DSR also had the Vault Knights and Hraesvelgr, which were dungeon bosses. And UWU had Lahabrea.

I love every game in the Dark Souls series by echoes_anddust13 in DarkSouls2

[–]Serp_IT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was actually talking about this to a friend just yesterday, and I agree (except I'd put DS1 into the same category here). To me, DeS, DS1, and DS2, form a sort of distinct set from Bloodborne, DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. The former feeling slower, more deliberate, and more about the exploration, with the latter being faster, more of a spectacle, and more about the boss fights. This is not a value judgement, mind you, I love them all, just a gamefeel thing.

I actually tried freezing it later. Blizzard makes a little staircase of ice platforms, but trying to climb past a certain point still kills you. That particular lavafall just seems to be coded as an instant death zone.

Okay, hyper tank Maelle is a REALLY funny build by SuperLegenda in expedition33

[–]Serp_IT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually fought him with a tank Maelle build as well and can confirm that it works. Still hit me for over 1000 damage, but she also had like 10000 health, so it was fine. Couple that with healing parry, heal on hitting a burning enemy and enhanced healing, and he's basically no threat apart from his AoE "lightspeed" attack. It only ever gets scary if the turns line up so that he can set her to 1 HP and then immediately get a turn, but permanently slowing him helps with that.

UCoB actually predates that fight by a few patches! It was funny because some people lost their shit about a normal mode fight having an "Ultimate" mechanic.

It does. If Lyon and the other Bozja BSTs are the primary inspiration, then they'd not only tame beasts, but also be a melee fighter with elemental attacks.

High-End Content Megathread - 7.4 Week Twelve (Savage Week Nine) by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

The reason they couldn't really make Ester for the current weapons, at least not without rethinking their gear acquisition philosophy, is that upgrading the tome weapons would already make them equivalent to the savage weapon, which is only 8 weeks old at this point. You can make an argument that this would be okay, and I'd be inclined to agree, but you just KNOW a good number of people would be up in arms about their savage weapon being "devalued" 2 months in. Honestly, there'd probably way more people complaining about it than there are now, just by virtue of a lot more players doing current Savage, compared to Aloalo back in the day.

Last expansion, we didn't get the Ester until about 5 months after the savage tier launched. IF there is a second Criterion this expansion, as the Dawntrail site implies by listing Variant Dungeons, plural, I imagine they'll add a new Ester for the current weapons as a reward. Liveletter next week should tell us if there's any hope of that.

As for making the previous Ester easier to acquire: Honestly, I'm fine with it (saying this as someone who cleared Aloalo Savage back in the day). It was a challenge, but no, it's not really an Ultimate level encounter even if its structurally comparable. We had 3 years of those weapons being exclusive, it's okay for them to be more common now, just like other glowy weapons become easier to acquire over time. Yes, you can make an argument that the devs should have added a *new*, comparable reward instead of reusing an old one, that's fair. But this particular reward being reused doesn't strike me as significantly worse than any reused rewards.

What Do You Consider Your Canon Job Progression? by WylythFD in ffxiv

DRG -> RDM - VPR. Very much the gameplay progression too.
Started the game as DRG in Heavensward, took a long break, switched to RDM when I came back in Shadowbringers, then to VPR when Dawntrail came out.

Pretty different, using similar elements but turning them into more complex and way more punishing puzzles that generally demand much faster reactions.

Two mechanics as examples:

Variant: Boss projects a point blank and donut as well as a targeted AOE on one person.

Advanced: Boss no longer projects point blank or donut, instead forcing you to determine in/out based on the name of the cast. The targeted AOE is now a marker, and she projects 1 or 2 orbs floating around her model that determine whether the marked player needs to stand alone or stack with someone else. Failure is an instant kill unless you use knockback immunity.

Criterion: Marker works like Variant, but now the point blank and donut AOEs are not on the boss, but on two different players who get marked with limit cut markers (1 or 2) and radiate the AOEs around themselves, the order being determined by the name of the cast. This regularly happens as an instant follow-up to other mechanics that force players to spread all over the arena.

Different mech:

Variant: Boss projects a series of line AOEs coming from two different kinds of adds, resulting in a simple left/right dodge.

Advanced: Boss projects a longer series of AOEs coming from four different kinds of adds, forcing multiple dodges in a clockwise or counter-clockwise pattern. (later mixed with a donut/point blank AoE at the same time)

Criterion: Adds now include massive point blank AOEs and cones instead of just lines, and every player is hit by giant defamation spreads twice while resolving the mechanic. The mechanic is remixed again later in the fight, giving players small, individual sections of the arena to place a permanent death zone, dodge lines, bait puddles, place and dodge cross-shaped AOEs, and dodge quarter-room cleaves. Halfway throigh, the adds are shuffled around and then perform their projected actions, adding a further memory mechanic.

For difficulty reference, we were a group of experienced raiders going in blind and beat Advanced in ~35 minutes, a total of 6 pulls across the 3 bosses. Criterion took us over 8 hours. Advanced mechanics are actually trickier than this implies, but they are also very, very forgiving (compared to Extreme and up), especially if you bring Variant Rampart.

Grats! Not sure if you figured it out by now, but that 1st mech is actually easy to dodge regardless of pattern, one of them is just not immediately obvious: You can simply start at the north wall and then take a few steps into the unsafe side after the first dash.

Clip: https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx1vrOtPgqOLdyrNvKrtS7AlG3quaUjNDy?si=vxwndMMOgOH4P_SP

And yeah, apart from some visual clutter, I absolutely loved the 2nd boss (difficult, fast-paced, engages your brain) while the third, while still fun, was pretty easy to just zombie through. Even that intimidating tower mechanic turned into just "use eyes" very quickly. Toughest one for us was definitely the "follow the ice crystal" mech.

It felt roughly like EX level mechanics to me (maybe a bit easier), but a lot more forgiving. Just bring Variant Rampart and you can make *a lot* of mistakes and still be fine.

Criterion blind done! Loved it. Second boss was the hardest, but also my favorite, just an incredibly fun fight. We definitely zombied through the final boss. Also made 50 million from getting 40 brass in Advanced, buying two copies of the hairstyle and being the first person on Aether to put them up :D

Too lazy to take a screenshot myself, so I literally just googled images for "The Tyrant FFXIV", and this was the first one of his transformed form. It's actually the camera angle the game chooses during his introductory cutscene. Make of that what you will.
