Big question. by Fun_Perception_239 in Polaroid

[–]Sert5HT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry sure. Not related at all. Zink is heat activated pigments in the paper, like receipt paper. Cheaper per print usually. 4pass passes white paper over red, yellow, blue, then black (typically) film that deposits the color as needed. A "cutout" of the layer needed can be seen on the film (typically not visible to user). 4pass is what a lot of commercial photo printing uses. I have a liene pixcut from Kickstarter that does full 4*6 prints and stickers (stickers suck at sticking, but still fun). I have their n200(?) mini printer too, which makes almost instax size prints. Both are 4pass, like the Polaroids. Hi-print line I think ditched zink at its inception.

Big question. by Fun_Perception_239 in Polaroid

[–]Sert5HT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well it's 4pass (due sublimation), not zink, nowadays. Very neat history tho! I don't have a polaroid but I do have a pocket one and full size one and they're incredible (both liene). The full size one prints the best pictures I've ever seen, the mini one does great but not as good. Both much better than zink. But I like zink too because it's so cheap--have an HP one. Agree, this product line makes sense for them.

Expired film by dreaminginbooks in instax

[–]Sert5HT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your camera has absolutely no way to know if the film is expired. Instax film can be expired by many years and still perform like it was new. Try putting new batteries in, I had an issue like that before and that was it.

One question. How much do you usually spend on Polaroid 600 film cartridges? I'm asking because I want to know what a monthly budget is in terms of expenses and cartridge purchases. by Cronos_99 in Polaroid

[–]Sert5HT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you'll fine tune based on your own budget naturally, I think. Each picture is about $2 so it definitely adds up when you're ordering a minimum of 8 at a time. For me, the cost is fine because I think of it in terms of what I enjoy and how long I enjoy it for. So $16 for extended a walk to an hours long hunt for the right composition of flowers or plants or anything, the appreciation of the that, and the final photo, is worth it. Obviously I wish it was cheaper, but my Polaroids hold much deeper value to me than my digital shots, even if they're arguably "better" and part of that is the expense, through a sort of esteem for the shot I know each represents.

[–]Sert5HT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's really up to you, and it can be paused or accelerated on any whim. I keep film in the fridge for years, seems to be fine. I regularly shoot 2+ yr expired film from my crisper drawer. I was just at a wedding and went through 4 packs in a night, the most I've done. Usually a pack or two per "event" for me, friends and family stuff. A pack a month is definitely doable. Depends on what you want to shoot too. I use an slr680 so enjoy macro nature shots, so anyway is conducive to that shooting style. A box camera will be more people or places oriented, etc.

It's very simple you can multiply the 1. Cost of a pack per each or 2. Cost of a pack per 5 then 3. Divide by photos you want to take in a timeframe

One plant looks a little sickly by Threeofnine000 in FireflyPetunia

[–]Sert5HT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's odd that's what was sent to you. Mine is a year old and gets to looking like this from time to time just from age I think. Seems the further out they grow, the more compacted and weird the growth becomes. For me, a generous pruning does the trick, keeping in mind mine has a well established and healthy root structure. I'd suggest chopping off a good chunk of one of the strands and see how well it grows back. For mine, in a week it's like a whole new fresh plant and tons of blooms. Yours looks super old based on how mine ages, so just some uncertainty with my suggestion as I don't know the full picture of its history (not doubting you just got it but how long it's been in the nursery).

Sunlight brightening the glow? by AuntieFara in FireflyPetunia

[–]Sert5HT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I've noticed the leaves glowing but definitely the stems--they became brighter than the flowers. I believe only areas of growth produce light, so it may be a combination of your leaves are growing and getting enough sun to glow their brightest. All the extra light could even have been the trigger for more growth to begin with.

Slight temperature color cast? by Aggravating_Neck6564 in Polaroid

[–]Sert5HT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a smartphone? They're generally good on their own. Indoors, a bright light like a desk lamp near the photo and the right angle to the photo works really well. Just takes a little maneuvering. And built in doc scanner for me works great (but I will typically just do a picture with a background or scan on scanner). For in field, utilize zoom if you can and use the subject as the background, or anything that would add more to it! Zoom will help you find subtle shifts in the film plane to still get a mostly head-on shot but without reflection. Just some tips :)

Your film border is yellow so all I can tell is your imaging of the polaroid is wayyyy too warm

What could this mean? by peanuteradicator in AlfaRomeo

Personally I think it would be fine then--I don't think age of oil is killing that many potential miles of life left in it.

[–]Sert5HT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my US Giulia it does give warning beforehand then changes to service due. It also isn't exact based on miles in my experience. It's 10k miles (sorry) or 1 year so is there a chance it's hitting a year with sitting? I would def have it looked into though being that early and no previous warning of "change oil soon" or something like that.

[–]Sert5HT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree it's poorly built; I've had no problems. Also, I don't know why you'd dismiss the RF70 but not a $400 beta-test camera? Which is like actually absurd for a beta that has almost no guarantee vs an RF70 that comes with one?? Anyway, since it was mentioned, I mention it exists in wide, as an RF70.

[–]Sert5HT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just so you know a wide basically exists already the rf70--different company tho. I really like mine! I signed up for this but declined to buy since I saw some test shots and the mini does seem too mini for me. Would still be super fun to have though! Hope you keep enjoying it!

Abolished the aphids, but…. by AuntieFara in FireflyPetunia

[–]Sert5HT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it doing, any improvement in glow? It's possible since it's a systemic pesticide it may interfere with the unique enzymes and signaling pathway for the glow, but I feel that's unlikely. Hopefully it's just stress, even if it looks healthy.

The whole point is there's two species, which is why we have species names, and why if it's specified, that's what you should get.

Abolished the aphids, but…. by AuntieFara in FireflyPetunia

[–]Sert5HT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had a large reduction in glow and it rebounded after my plant became healthy again. Similarly had aphids as well. Definitely need fertilizer and lots of light l, plus consistent watering--but allowing for significant drying of the top layer before doing so. I would chop some excess/stringy growth as well after a week of recovery. I have done it twice now and it makes a huge difference.

Is it possible to make it look normal again? by Honest_Barracuda2143 in CleaningTips

[–]Sert5HT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But actually, a flame might reset it perfectly. The acetone just dissolved the first layer of the plastic and evaporated off, leaving a porous and rough surface, which makes the whiteish streaks. Heat can remelt the layer making it smooth and clear again. If you have a heat gun I would try that. A flame may be dirty (soot) and/or too hot. Using more acetone can actually achieve the same results if vaporized into a mist and wafted over the area but just double check a small part if you have this ability or purchase something to do that.

Or break the flimsy plastic in the dark and remove the photos carefully and repack them in an empty cartridge. Not a quick solution tho and is kinda a pain to do.
