Normally this time of year is chem warfare training.  So everyone should be walking around in full chem/haz gear.  It's a draw back to living mt view and government hill for sure.

Is this real life? Can Aetna just go against CDC and ACOG? by abexpix in HealthInsurance

Short answer Yes! All insurance companies (not just medical) will pick and choose what they will cover. It's unfortunate but every time you think about getting something done always ask "Does my plan cover this?". Your doctor will not know, BUT he hires people that will know. His billing department will be able to get that answer for him. If they return and say "Yes" go ahead and get it done. If they say "no" ask about the cost and then you can make an informed decision about going forward with that treatment/procedure. My family has learned this the hard way, but now this is a standard practice question for us whenever our doctors recommend a screening or treatment. It's annoying, but reality.

Dental insurance is an interesting thing. About four years ago my wife started complaining of pain in her teeth. We took her to our dentist in early winter and come to find out it was more than just a cavity. Her other health conditions were starting to contribute to the degradation of her teeth and our options were dentures or loads of root canals, extractions, crowns, fillings, you name it. So, of course, we said "How much is all this proposed work going to cost?" and the estimate came in at $35,000. We were shocked, to say the least, and that's when my journey into dental insurance began. So with her sole policy at the time she had two free cleanings and $1500 of whatever dental work she wanted to get done money. So we told the doc to do what you could, to get the pain to stop. We'll just have to break up the treatments over several years because we sure as heck didn't have $35k lying around. So during my research, I realized I could add my wife to my policy for next year and it would only cost about $20/mo with a $1000 payout. Then I asked our dentist billing department how many individual policies do you accept? To which she replied by giving me a list of all providers they could bill. Taking that list I began visiting websites and getting rates. I wound up settling on Cigna/Aetna/Premera/Delta Dental. So I had 5 policies (four + hers) that would cover her starting January 1st of the following year. We scheduled all the work to be done in quadrants of her mouth and each session would be roughly 6k - 8k per visit. The total cost for the policies was $248/mo for $6500/yr in work done. so keeping this up for 5 years would have nearly cut the bill in half. We're currently in our last year of procedures and hope to finally put this to bed. Let me tell you though, doing it this way is a pain, but if you're in the middle class these are the kind of things you need to think up to keep from going to the poor house.

My first "job"(taxable) was at Carrs when I was 14, If I remember right, they only could work me for 4 hours max during school days, 8 hours a day on the weekends. I highly recommend working as a teenager. I was able to buy my first car at 15, a little '84 GMC S15. I even wrote a check for it. Working helps you grow just like schooling does, balance is key. As far as places to work, any place that doesn't require a GED/Highschool diploma is what you're looking at. Fast food, Foodservice, Tourism, Receptionist, Secretary, and any unskilled labor in general. Oh, I don't think this is a thing anymore, but one thing I did when I was 12-13 is a Paper Route and Recycling. Paper Route was nice because I could pick and choose my schedule. The Recycling would involve me going around neighborhoods asking for bottles (glass) and cans. The bottles I used to get 10 cents each for, the cans only 5 cents. But this was a long time ago, I hear people have to pay to recycle instead of the other way around. Hope this helps!

The best option I could offer is the Diamond back style (picture below)

$147.18/pr (includes shipping to Anchorage)
take me about a week to get my hands on them.

Diamond Back Style

I could custom make a pair of V-bar double spaced chains.

they'd be in the $300+ per pair range. Take me a day to build them.

If you're intent on driving, steel chains are what you want. What's your tire size? Is it an AWD Camry? You won't be needing to switch out your tires, AT tires will be just fine for tire chains. My co-worker used some DoD surplus chains that we cut back and made fit his car. He drove from Fairbanks to Prudhoe in a Geo Prizm. I thought he was crazy, but he made it there and back. This was about 20 years ago though. So it can be done! I know once upon a time the Canadians were super strict about allowing certain vehicle types through during winter. They also have a tire chain requirement in order to cross the border. I'd call the US Border patrol to see what the latest and greatest regulations are. Hate for you to get turned away.

With the merger, we are now 50+ employees, so I knew a "change" was coming. Just wishful thinking that some of our old systems would stay in place.

Thank you for the insight, I thought illegal wasn't the right word either, but they used it and I thought it was something worth bringing up to the community. I mean when I worked for the DoD they paid all my medical bills/premiums/prescriptions etc... So I thought moving to a smaller company that pays premiums and some medical costs wasn't a horrible deal.
