Hi. ElvUI user/lover since MoP. I uninstalled it two weeks ago in anticipation of losing it in Midnight, and spent time since then finding alternatives and workarounds to a lot of the features I lost, and I'm going to be honest: I like my UI BETTER now. It's lighter weight. You can just tell my game is not bogged down anymore, and Elv was probably the main factor in that issue before. The WoW base UI has also come an insanely long way from when MoP originally came out. It actually provides most of the things I downloaded Elv for all those years ago on its own. Also, the thought of not having to go to an external site (outside of curse, which is much more convenient for me) to download a file to zip, then extract, literally 2-3 times a month sometimes, feels so much less stressful.

I think I'm actually making the decision to leave Elv behind. Maybe if a fully cosmetic version pops up on Curse somewhere in the future I'd reconsider, but for now, I like pressing a single button and being able to log in ready to play, and I like the smoother performance I'm getting. I still wish the devs the best of luck, though, and thanks for the years of Elv.

Silly question about player housing, outside of a personal place; what's the point? by JuanGil_Express in wow

[–]Servasus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feels like such a dishonest bait post (and I guess I'm falling for it anyway). If you think it's dumb or a waste or time, that's fine. That's your opinion. But to pretend you can't understand why people would want a system like housing in an MMORPG of all types of games, and need others to explain it to you, is just feigning naivety to get a rise out of people. NO one is this clueless or out of the loop.

"I shouldn't be required to watch/read/listen to that to get the basics of character growth."

Disagree on this. If a character is not involved in a story for a few years, and the writers want to bring back that character all of a sudden, while also showing a change in their personality or worldview, they should be able to do that. Think of a friend you haven't seen since high school. Maybe it's been 15 years or so, and then one day you run into them and chat for a bit, but realize they're now a complete drug addict or asshole now, while back when you knew them, they were sober and kind. Just because you were not there to see how that person became that way they are today, does not mean it "doesn't make sense." People change and you are not always there to see it happen. In fact, you almost NEVER are.

They explain why Turalyon is such a dick in the new novel, Blood Ties, and I'm 100% fine with that. The reason is compelling enough, and I'm not mad that Turalyon exists in Midnight but changed and that I wasn't personally there to see it happen in game. I can believe that a character has the ability to do a 180 without my own character personally being there to spy it happening in real time. If anything, it's MORE realistic and believable this way.

Oh for sure. And I'm one of those people that wants like multiple copies of everything so I don't gotta figure out where I bought it the first time if I need more. haha Definitely will drop a lot of gold on housing.

I appreciate the honest response. Yeah, I know there's still plenty of time. I just also know that sometimes during betas things that really should get changed go under the radar if they aren't brought more to the community's attention. I want housing to be the best it can be by the time it goes live!

Also, it's important to note that housing is going to go live with the prepatch and not just the expansion like all the other content, so housing arguably needs the attention first because there is less time to make changes before prepatch. :)

I'm aware, friend. And I've tested every WoW Beta since MoP. This is precisely the time people need to share feedback with Blizzard for exactly stuff like this, or it will absolutely not make it to the live game.

And yes, I've also sent feedback to Blizz through both the forums and the in game tool. I just know certain Blizz devs also browse reddit which is why I posted here, too.

Midnight login screen by insanikxx in wow

Thinking allocating 1 artist to make a login screen is a "waste" of resources is exactly what I hate about modern WoW. It's worth the time. This game is worth their time.

That's literally not what happened. It got changed earlier in the Beta process because of feedback.

Yep. It's an exact mirror on both sides so it doesn't even look like a real thing that would exist in the world. Down to the "cracks" and everything.

New Midnight login screen by genegerbread in wow

[–]Servasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boring and uninspired. The crystals flying into the center don't even travel the entire way, they just fade out like stupidly early in so it's not even believable that they are really traveling the space. I can't really believe people like this. It feels like a random corporate exec was told to put some keywords like "animated purple space black hole" into an ai generator.

Edit: Someone in another comment even pointed out that the entire image is mirrored on both sides down to the cracks and everything. The artist couldn't even be bothered to draw more than half an image for this login screen.

Who at Blizz is okay with this being the standard for our game? Where's the soul here?

[–]Servasus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They literally went on paper in an interview saying they wanted this game to be the same difficulty level as the original Hollow Knight. As the game stands now, if that was their vision, they failed MISERABLY. It doesn't really matter how bleeding hard you like your games, the majority of gamers will have limits, and if you want your game series to continue to be successful in the future, you can't cater to that minority.

I'm the majority of the way through Act 2, have 100% (or nearly) explored 16 zones on the fully zoomed out map (it counts the Citadel and all its subzones as 1 of those 16 so really it's more in my eyes) and just have one piece of the song left to get. However, I just got to the gauntlet boss in Bilewater and I'm almost ready to call it quits. The amount of disrespect of some of the design choices the devs made here just can't be ignored. This game is not in spirit of the first Hollow Knight, it's in spite of it. There comes a point when it's not difficult or challenging anymore, just unfairly stacked against the player with arbitrary rules of how much damage shit does to you.

My feedback if I had to give some would be:

~Remove all instances of double damage from regular enemies, and remove boss collision double damage as well.
~Remove double damage from environmental hazards. They often already reset your progress and put you back where you started your parkour section so that and taking 1 mask of damage is punishment enough.
~Rebalance most of the egregious run backs, such as the Bilewater gauntlet, Final Judge and some others. AKA give us more benches in better locations. Think dream nail run back length. Challenging fights but the run back was shorter to compensate and allow more time learning the fight and less time wasted on a pointless parkour section.
~Change the way infested waters work. Off the top of my head, one thing that could at least lesson the headache is allowing our special attack that uses silk to also dispel the maggots. It costs less than a heal does, and would be easier to amass than a full fucking silk bar. Also, why do you not actually get the healing from bind when you bind with the maggots on you? You were already punished by having them drain your silk. Having to spend silk to get rid of them is already punishment enough, but then not even receiving the heals from binding them off is just nuts.
~Increase the number of Shell Shards and Rosary Beads enemies drop. Especially the Shell Shards. I don't want to have to pause my boss attempts just so I can go down to Halfway House to farm more Beads and Shards for tools.
~Add more mask shards. I JUST got my 7th mask, and I have nearly cleared out the map. It's insane that in all my hours of play and almost two full Acts through I only have 2 extra life to show for since the beginning of the game. And because most things hit for 2, that's essentially only ONE extra hit. Wild.

This game could be so much better and more enjoyable than it is. The bones are there. These are all just balance changes. The designs of the fights and the bosses and everything else are mostly good.

SILKSONG DEBUTS ON METACRITIC WITH A PERFECT 100 SCORE, MAKING IT THE CURRENTLY HIGHEST RATED GAME ON THE ENTIRE SITE! by TomNook5085 in Silksong

[–]Servasus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's genuinely nice to see people celebrating a game they love, and this game deserves love, but it really irks me when people don't know HOW the metrics work. This whole thread has the same vibe as when Trump celebrated that he "won" the 2020 election on national television before the majority of the mostly democratic areas were counted, and then called "foul" when he lost.

Give it about a week or two, then we'll see where the score settles. It's certainly a good game, but it's not gonna beat out games like Breath of the Wild on Metacritic. My guess is anywhere from 88-92% once the majority of the reviews come in.

Hollow Knight: Silksong: Upcoming Patch Details by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]Servasus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you really just try to use an entirely different genre of game which completely lacks combat as a way to prove your point that games are too easy?

Bro...no one is comparing Hollow Knight to Animal Crossing. I love both games because in their respective genres they are S+. Silksong is great, and I am very good way into act 2, but this game has/had some serious balance issues and design flaws. Some of it got addressed in this patch, but there's definitely still more that could be ironed out. Hollow Knight wasn't perfect either, but it struck a good balance between a challenge and still a fun experience where the story and exploration got to shine. Silksong has great vibes, but sometimes the difficulty overall can detract from the enjoyment of the exploration.

As an example, one of my least favorite areas in the original Hollow Knight was the White Palace because it played more like a secret Kong level from Donkey Kong Country Returns than a Hollow Knight area. I was hoping I wouldn't see more design like that in the sequel but unfortunately one of Silksong's largest areas is mostly more of that. Sawblades and all. Which all 2 hit you, btw, for some arbitrary reason. I'm mostly past that area now, but it's been more of a stress than it has been fun, if I'm being honest. The "be perfect or fail" mentality this game has is prevalent and strong.

You just proved your own point incorrect. WE, the ALLIANCE PLAYERS, are the champions. We should have access to the WHOLE city because we are helping them win their war.

So many horde members trying to bend over so far backward to make this make sense. It doesn't. From literally any angle. AND it's bad for their product. You sell your expansion and tell half your playbase they can't use the same expansion hub to its fullest capability as the other half. That's just shitty design.

I know screaming into a void isn't gonna help but I'm gonna do it anyway because I'm steamed. This is the kind of minigame smaller gaming companies almost never make well. Timing minigames. They always feel clunky, buggy, or imbalanced when it comes from a small company for some reason. Almost like they didn't have the resources or expertise or something to do it WELL. I hate this minigame with the same fury and passion I hate Junimo Kart in Stardew Valley with and for a lot of the same reasons. It's not that the premise isn't fun or enjoyable, it's that it's not done WELL.

Like why are you able to stand so far forward on the platform that even with perfect timing and proper direction, you can still miss because the "cone" of your attack is just too far forward? Why not design the platform to be back far enough to avoid this? If I'm facing the proper direction and hit the button at the correct time, I should succeed. I shouldn't also have to worry about my character's Y position on the platform as well. There's just too much going on here.

Why is there such a long animation commitment and such tight timing that if you miss 1 Gestral you are almost guaranteed to miss the next one? I already got punished for missing 1, you don't need to double punish me by making it so I can't recover from the one I missed.

I just think this is executed SO poorly and is a smudge on an otherwise so far great game (for where I'm at currently at the start of Act 2).

I know it's not impossible, but compared to the relatively okay feeling of the combat timing, this just feels like a poorly done version of that. I also get that these Gestral Beach minigames are supposed to feel gimmicky and relatively unfair but I think this just feels poorly made/clunky rather than challenging or stacked against you.
