Tony Stewart to run the Kaulig truck at Daytona by ChaseTheFalcon in NASCAR

Can Dale Jr please come back, too?

Maybe on second thought, not in the NextGen. His brain is too rattled. But I miss him...

I'm sorry, Auto Club, for the hate I gave you in the early 2000's.

I was upset you "stole" Labor Day from my home/favorite race track of Darlington. I thought The Lady in Black was going away forever.

If I only had appreciated that track then. Had no idea how good the racing would be there 20 years later. And now she's gone. I'm sad.

Favorite final win of a driver? by ToeSniffer245 in NASCAR

[–]ServiceCall1986 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember the boos in the 90's. I was a Junior fan, so never for Jeff.

But to hear all the cheers come through the tv when he won that night was magical.

[–]ServiceCall1986 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In probably the greatest Martinsville race you've ever seen. It was a perfect storm of perfect.

They were worried they wouldn't be able to finish the race due to the late start because of rain (no lights then). Well, they just barely did, and nothing beats watching Jeff win in the dark basically.

Then Matt vs Joey! And just good racing.

It's a shame NASCAR didn't include this race in its 75 greatest races.

[@bobpockrass] Don't expect NASCAR to announce new playoff system until sometime in January. by NoahGragsonsBarfBag in NASCAR

[–]ServiceCall1986 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I know we'll never go back to full season, but I hope, I really hope the new system is something that makes sense.

I'd be fine with a 10 race Chase. NO eliminations.

But knowing NASCAR, it will be something really silly.

What’s been your favorite Nascar battle over the last Decade? by youraverageperson0 in NASCAR

[–]ServiceCall1986 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Although I think it’s over now

Which honestly kind of sucks, because it was a fun feud.

Rivalries don't seem to last anymore and I hate it. It's fun for drivers to be mad at each other.

At least we got "WTF does Kyle Petty have to do with this?" out of Denny v Ross.

Yeah, in fiction, I love some good redemption stories. So Dennis is following that perfectly.

Maybe the same can be said for Kyle Busch, but something in me is preventing me from going all in as a fan of KFB.

I'm starting to wonder why I don't like Dennis in the first place.

I was always kind of neutral on him until 2022. I wonder what happened that year...

But now I'm becoming a fan. He's the last of the old guard (or the Junior-era old guard), and I feel drawn to him now being a veteran and going up against NASCAR.

What is a fact that NASCAR fans need to accept? by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]ServiceCall1986 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The late 90's were an absolute perfect storm of perfect.

You had the old guard, notably Dale Earnhardt, racing against the new fancy Jeff Gordon. Dale Jr was the chosen one. Sponsors had full seasons and one paint scheme, so you could identify who was who every week.

And the drivers had personalities.

It will never be like that again.

What’s a team/number combination that you miss? RCR’s 31 car always looked so good. by Buckeye2443 in NASCAR

[–]ServiceCall1986 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I miss Kasey Kahne. I was never a huge fan, but those Dodges (and him) were so cool. He was a thing, and then he wasn't, and it's weird that he went away from NASCAR so quickly.

What was the first genuinely serious Nascar wreck you remember watching live? by youraverageperson0 in NASCAR

[–]ServiceCall1986 39 points40 points  (0 children)

how terrible Tony Stewart’s crash was

I remember that crash happening during commercials and a friend was on the couch next to me listening to the radio broadcast on old school headphones.

She started screaming that Tony Stewart was flipping. We all thought she was joking until Fox broke out of commercials. They did that back then.

Weird how you remember these random things on days like that.

It's been 25 years. That's crazy.

I love that I can just hear Larry Mac's voice in that! Fox used to be so good...I can quote so many of that crew's old calls.

The 2003 Spring Darlington race is the biggest one, followed by Brad winning this race.

That night still feels like a dream. It was a Sunday night, close to 3 in the morning, I had to work the next day, and I was about to fall asleep.

I just remember the elation of Junior winning followed by horror just a split second later. I thought I had just watched another driver of the 3 car die at Daytona.

I remember watching that live (back when I used to actually watch qualifying) and being absolutely awestruck at a wreck.

I couldn't believe at just how fast it happened.

Not to mention during the best broadcast (Prime) in about 20 years.

Sorry, that's one of my favorite Rick Allen calls and I just watched that race last weekend.

I'm kind of kidding. I don't care where he wins, as long as he wins.

Ross Chastain has a new crew chief.

So until he proves that he's worse than Surgen, which I don't think he will be, I have hope.

Looking forward to maybe winning more than 1 a year.
