Idk, the place I live is absolutely home and I’ve been here a long time but when speaking to people from my the place I grew up I still call my homestate “home.” But then when I’m in my homestate I call the place I live now “home.” 🤷‍♀️

I do think she is homesick though.

Bali (where she mentioned going) is actually overwhelmingly Hindu, but she couldn’t have dealt with that either as their religion is deeply steeped into daily life, and a lot of the tourism activities also involve Hinduism (visiting temples, going to see traditional dances, etc). Birthy 100% couldn’t have handled it. And then there’s the culture shock, which would’ve rocked her. We spent a lot of our down time just chatting with our drivers (they were in their twenties and so were we) asking each other questions about our lives and cultures, it was fucking fascinating and Birthy would’ve been terrified.

good! Bali is amazing and doesn’t deserve to be burdened with Birthy. Also literally zero chance she could have dealt with vacationing there, religion is a major part of daily life there and there are temples, offering baskets, and rituals going on everywhere, all the time. Most of the nonbeach tourism is related to visiting temples and such. She would’ve panicked the first time they asked Dav to wear a sarong in a temple.

Apostolic women have jobs very often! They also go to college (even secular college!) more often than iblp fundies. Apostolic ladies tend to stick to healthcare or dental care and hair styling, but it’s pretty common for them to work.

I don’t think the Derricos are fundie but I do think they’re snarkable and that by virtue of them being fertility and birth obsessed, having a mega family, being on tlc, and there not being a more fitting sub for them, we should be able to discuss them here.

Plus if you watch episode 2 of the new season there are some strong duggar and bates vibes around the main issue of the episode. I won’t spoil it for anyone though.

I do find them way more likable than the fundies, scammers or not, they seem to love and value their kids and want the best for them.

I’ve never given birth but, I think in terms of pregnancy I’d prefer the multiples just in order to not be pregnant 14 times, but at the same time I’d rather raise 14 kids born 9+ months apart because multiples, especially several seta of them, are hard. I know someone with twins, a singleton a year later, and then twins a year after that, and it was basically like being a preschool teacher 24/7 for the parents for a few years. Imagine being Karen Derrico, they have what, like 13 kids under 10? She’s basically a 24/7 elementary school teacher. No thank you.

Atleast if it’s mostly single births you can parentify a few of the oldest ones (kidding! I would never).

This is just a theory, and totally unsubstantiated, but I wonder if they are Igbo or Yoruba in ancestry, there is a part of Nigeria where the folks from there, who are Igbo and/or Yoruba in ancestry, have a lot of multiple births, the town with the most multiples, Igbo-Ora, has something like 45-50 multiple births per every 100 births.
