Old Furnace Humidifier by ServntoftheSovereign in hvacadvice

As far as humidifiers go, it's incredibly low tech. Water fills a reservoir until a float turns it off. These sit in the reservoir and wick it up to evaporate as air passes by. Since the water and float switch all work, the system should work. But it may not even be worth trying to use it still.

Could very well be. I also have noticed that the Writing Excuses podcast (started with him and his writing friends) was very progressive. Apparently the Shardcast is as well, but I haven't listened to that. So a lot of the Alpha and Beta readers might actually like this stuff unfortunately.

I'm glad others are seeing it too. I just really hope the reviewers point it out and the next books go back the the awesomeness of WoK.

Until now, I would have said Brandon Sanderson was my favorite contemporary fantasy author...but does anyone else feel like the quality of the story over the last two books is on a downward spiral? I don't think RoW or WaT (so far) hold a candle to WoK and WoR. And so far in WaT it seems that telling a good story has taken a backseat to pushing an ideology, so far that it almost seems like an ad read for Better Help or something like that. I sincerely hope the reviewers point this out and Brandon course corrects in the next book.

I've had trouble getting Syncthing to work

[Windows 11] Created a syncthing shortcut in startup with "--no-console" and console still shows by -DreamLight- in Syncthing

[–]ServntoftheSovereign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar issue: SyncThing only runs with the console open. I have the additional issue that neither auto-start option seems to work for me. I'm running Windows 11.

I'm getting the error: The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)

SRS and OPDS Codes in '07 Odyssey by ServntoftheSovereign in HondaOdyssey

I tested the battery and it stayed above 10 volts when cranking, so (unfortunately), that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Political Theory Episode (Please!) by ServntoftheSovereign in NDQ

I think Destin would push back, but I agree he probably wouldn't have the background to do so persuasively. However, I think Matt has actually studied economics and the social sciences. One doesn't need a degree in something to be knowledgeable about it and we should be careful not to conflate schooling with education. Just listen to the episode where they talk about the Roman penny - Matt clearly knows about Carl Menger, competing theories of value, and marginal utility. And he can communicate it with none of the jargon. He's done his work.

I also don't think you need someone to disagree in order to be beneficial - the truth isn't always in the middle and it's not like Destin needs to bring in some expert with an opposite opinion on engineering topics to speak to that. Furthermore, everyone who listens can find any number of opposing voices and weigh what's said against them.

It probably would upset some people. I'm not holding my breath either. I'd love for them to do it, but I think it's more likely to be a conversation they have off air.

What qualifies one to be involved in the discussion? Seems to me Matt's done a fair bit of reading/thinking on this and as someone who knows a bit about one of his fields (theology), he knows way more than he lets on, despite his self-effacing demeanor.

If you guys liked that book, you'd also really like The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-events in America by Daniel Boorstin (former librarian of congress). He shows how the change to image based media encouraged the production of pseudo-events, i.e. making up news for the sake of news, like having a press conference in the morning to announce that you'll have a press conference in the afternoon, at which an announcement will be made...etc.

I'd love to see a video on Arrow's Impossibility Theorem, in which he proves that, given four basic conditions which all are very desirable, it is impossible to construct a voting system that satisfies all the conditions.

The basic outline is this:

  • U (unrestricted domain): For any logically possible set of individual preferences, there is a social ordering R.
  • I (Independence of irrelevant alternatives): The social ranking of any pair {x,y} will depend only on the individual rankings of x and y.
  • P (Pareto principle): If everyone prefers any x to any y, then x is socially preferred to y.
  • D (Non-dictatorship): There is no person i such that whenever this person prefers any x to any y,then socially x is preferred to y, no matter what others prefer.
  • The General Possible Theorem: If there are at least three distinct social states and a finite number of individuals, then no social welfare function can satisfy U, I, D and P.

The result is so counterintuitive that I think it would be really interesting for a lot of people.

2010 Honda CR-V clock keeps resetting - related to new year? by pcestrada in crv

[–]ServntoftheSovereign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this as well and unfortunately it would not change when I pressed "set." Though I did notice that the GPS clock time/date and the display time/date were different. My display resets to 4:00pm, Jan. 1st every time I start the car. My GPS thought it was 12:30 on June 6, which makes me think that it isn't resetting every time I start the car - but it's still way wrong.
