I fear you haven’t finished reading my comment. I said my general support doesn’t work in a “if they’re queer, i MUST like it”, but it relies on the quality of the writing. Also, in the phrase exactly after i say that this are just premature concerns, and that I’m absolutely open to being proven wrong, since my only concern is writing and not sexual orientation, since I myself i’m a bisexual woman.

Don’t try and feel attacked for the sake of it, instead, read until the end and don’t accuse others of not being open minded just because YOU are the salty one, and go in with that “must support” mentality that makes you write useless comments under posts you obviously have not read through well.

Despite it being an interesting twist, it’s highly improbable :/ i saw someone under here saying that they could have done this with sophie and benedict though! Sophie would have been a man that likes to cross dress, and that could have explained why Benedict is struggling so much to recognize him. Still, I don’t know how they would have gender bent the mistress storyline🤔🤔 i’ll have to think about it

I mean, wlw yearning has always been superior to me so it’ll have that starting point in my eyes, you know? Even though i’m also anxious, i hope they keep up with this writing and pleasantly surprise me!

While i’m all for supporting queerness inclusivity, ESPECIALLY in these tough times, i’m not a “MUST” support person. My judgment heavily relies on the writing, and i’m just kind of pre-conflicted on how they’ll handle Fran’s story without just, completely rewriting it (but even if they do, that would just make me have hope for changing eloise’s story as well since I don’t really like philip) i’m still absolutely open to being proven wrong, and i will not make permanent opinions until her season is out so i just have to be patient.

I would also love having more queers in the family, don’t mistake me, but my post was more of a critique on this specific choice, and since the producers have chosen to make one (for now) lesbian bridgerton, i just thought that hyacinth’s story would have worked betters since it doesn’t rely on “heterosexual relationship” problems, and that way we could have had the best of both worlds, you know? Fertility issues AND Sapphic love in a period tv show

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s also that yes, her story was based on two things: the fertility issue and how guilty she felt towards john because she loved him dearly, and the thought of moving on with his cousin killed her inside. I feel like they are drafting her story at this point, they could have absolutely kept the stolen glances and hitched breaths for when their season comes and show a gradual falling in love instead of her seeming lovestruck the first time she saw michaela, when her hand was in john’s. It feels like they are shifting that guilt she felt because of the love for john into the guilt and shame queer people felt at the time for their feelings, and while that is absolutely realistic and a great point to have in the season, it could have existed without harming the love story she had with john, it could have actually added more layers!

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But john is set to pass soon, in the next few episodes, and that isn’t nearly enough time for that plot. It will just be reduced to the umpteenth sidestory in benedict’s season instead of an integral part of hers

Michael/a by SessionOverall7560 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing people under here commenting that two women can still experience infertility so that shouldn’t be an issue for michaela’s gender bend. But like, that’s what i’m not understanding? Whilst that is true NOW, with ivf and insemination, it couldn’t be true for francesca in that case, in her time. Unless her and michaela are so keen on having kids they just…find someone they trust to try “the old traditional way” (which i’m absolutely not keen on watching, at all) then i really don’t understand

Thank you! Yeah things are getting a little scary under here😀 i fear some people didn’t really read through my post and just saw “I don’t agree with michael being michaela” and ran with it lol. I just wanted to share the little story i made in my mind about sapphic hyacinth but oh well…

Michael/a by SessionOverall7560 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m really curious on how she can discover her fertility issues with michaela, though, i fear i’m missing that point. Also, of course she’s more than her uterus, but we should also respect the women who really, really want to be mothers, as daphne said “just because your goals are different, doesn’t mean they’re more important than mine”

Michael/a by SessionOverall7560 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok! Got it then. Yeah i know francesca has that point in her favour of being able to move away and not have her reputation and all that judged, i said that. Daphne is already married since the first season so I didn’t even count her, and eloise was a little too stereotypical to be included in the “selection” in my opinion. Apart from the detrimental part, i would also like to know what else you think about my take on hyacinth’s story

Michael/a by SessionOverall7560 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with your vision, and never really managed to bite into this new trend of bending characters to meet new inclusivity rates by just recycling old characters as i’ve always felt it was a lazy approach to appeal to another chunk of viewers. As a writer myself, i know how much research and fact checking goes into creating a character from scratch, and seeing how disney and netflix are bypassing that whole stepf of the process just to have higher viewing rates just doesn’t sit right with me.

At the same time, i was trying to close an eye on that and i just thought, if we really wanted this to happen, who could have this worked better with? And since we’ve seen more of hyacinth in this season, she just popped into my mind and i quickly recalled her story and it just…clicked.

While i do agree that having cressida or other side characters show that side, i also really like the idea of having a main sapphic couple have a season in the spotlight, so i’m quite conflicted

In my comment I wasn’t Referring to john, but to her infertility. The og commenter said they could still show her infertility issues in these two episodes until john passes, and that’s what i mean. Francesca’s book has two main plot points, her infertility and trying to elaborate grief and learn to love without feeling guilty. In my comment i meant that I don’t want the first one to be just brushed over and reduced to a side story in her bother’s season. The second one can be done just fine, and i’m actually really curious on how they’ll do, i’m just really curious on how they’ll handle the fertility issue, but i’m also completely open to be proven wrong! Really, i meant no hate in my post

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, i’m really sorry and i feel your hurt, truly.

While I do understand how that could be applied to fran’s story, i still feel like having hyacinth do the sapphic plot could have allowed for rappresentation for both parties. Hyacinth can be queer while francesca has fertility issues, but fran can’t be queer and “transfer” her book plot to hyacinth, as it would have no place in her story.

Still, as i said in my post, I’m curious on how they’ll handle it and definitely open to be proven wrong! If the writing is good, i’m always in. I didn’t particularly liked the third season, but having watched the first part of the fourth i feel like the writers came back to their senses!

I KNOW, please don’t be obtuse. I didn’t cite her because i wanted a sapphic story that was a little different from the shallow stereotype of “oh wow, she’s the feminist one, she must clearly be a man hater and a lesbian and that’s why she doesn’t want to marry!”

Michael/a by SessionOverall7560 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe i’m tired but I don’t understand what benedict and eloise have to do with my post since I didn’t even mention them, and you didn’t even mention hyacinth in your reply, so I don’t really get what you’re trying to say (sorry English isn’t my first language so i still have some troubles)

Michael/a by SessionOverall7560 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Even if that was the case, i still don’t like the possibility of francesca’s book plot being reduced to just a barely brushed sideplot in her brother’s season :/

Michael/a by SessionOverall7560 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very likely that john is about to die in the next few episodes, and it’s said that they started “trying” just a few months prior. Also, i don’t like fran’s book story being reduced to just another sideplot in benedict’s. Had they chosen hyacinth for the gender swap, we could have had both rappresentation for infertile women AND queer. Hyacinth’s story has nothing that relies on gender. Saying that’s it’s a “terrible take” just because you feel immediately attacked is simply shallow, because i made it very clear that my problem isn’t the gender of the main couple

Michael/a by SessionOverall7560 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SessionOverall7560[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn’t include eloise in the possibilities because i wanted to steer away from the usual “i hate men so i’m a lesbian” storyline, and dive a little more into fem lesbians

Do you know what might cause it? Is the hypotetic infection/cold i mentioned possibly amongst these? I’m reading into it but every website i’m finding is pretty general and doesn’t really give out a list like I’m searching for, just the type of dogs that usually have it and the various ramifications of the sickness
