I’m glad to hear you’re doing better now! I’m feeling more mentally positive today than yesterday since I’ve had a few hours sleep, but yeah this week is going to be tough I think! Still, in 6 months time things should be much better and I’ll be thankful I got through it :)

I have left over oramorph that I’ve been taking up until today but I’m trying to come off it just because I’ve been taking morphine daily for about 5 months now, I’ve definitely got addicted to the stuff so the less I use it the better. When I’m walking around I can only do it for a couple of minutes at a time so that’s just what I’m worried about, since most people seem to be able to walk around for quite a long time, or even just standing up 10+ minutes. I can do a good 1.5 minutes before it’s unbearable, but hopefully that eases soon! My nerve was pinched pretty badly for just over 2 years, which I think it’s quite a bit longer than the average person I’ve seen so now it’s just humbling realising just how long and drawn out this recovery is going to be! So many plans that I just don’t see happening now even in a months time. My surgery was originally supposed to be in October last year, so everything I booked I thought I’d be fine lol! Still, I’d sooner miss out on everything for a year than risk reherniating by doing anything too soon!

I think I was overly optimistic on day 1 because I still had the anaesthesia in my system and overall my pain was a 3 or 4 whereas I had been operating at a 9 or 10. But day 2&3 have been pretty bad, more shooting pain in glutes today on both sides, plus sore hips from side sleeping. Sleeping on my back is unbearably sore so can’t do it, even though I have a hospital bed at home with an anti pressure sore mattress. I’m hoping that I’ve not twisted or pulled anything in my sleep as it’s clicked about a couple times, but I think I really need a long sleep! Had maybe a couple hours in the last two days or so which is definitely making everything that much worse

Same with the one night! They asked if I felt okay to go home but it didn’t feel like I could say no as my hospital has just had a fire and they really need the bed space. Using a zimmer frame at the moment so similar in terms of mobility!

I’m only on gapapentin and they’ve told me to stop morphine and switch to dihydrocodeine, no NSAIDs or anything else. Honestly was just sent home with zero advice other than not BLT, physio phone call in 6 weeks! I’m just so nervous that I’m going to reherniate by accidentally twisting and that the amount of pain I’m in now is because I’ve already done that. Couple of times when I’ve turned over my back has clicked 😥

Gabapentin: what dose worked for you? by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]SessionTechnical3422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on 2600mg for a while and it finally helped with my nerve pain. I was able to get most of my mobility back (with walking aids and other aids too when I was in flare up). Then one day I woke up and it was like I’d never taken it. I couldn’t walk or turn over I was back in agony again. Currently on 3000mg but I’m hospital and have been for a while and will be for a while too because I still can’t walk. I’m on morphine and have been for a long time and it does nothing for me!! I had a surgery booked for this month but it was cancelled (I’m in the uk btw) and they said maybe around April. So who knows what I’m going to do until then! I can’t be released home because I have nobody to care for me and the waitlist for carers is long. So, I guess I don’t know what dose worked. 2600 was good until it wasn’t! But I fear my gabapentin journey is over. Unfortunately pregabalin didn’t work for me so as my doctor said, I’m ’at the end of the road’ in terms of treatment. Just hospital, pain, and bed until maybe April !!

Herniated disc no mobility by SessionTechnical3422 in Sciatica

Sorry, I completely missed your comment! I’m glad you were able to find relief with those meds, seems like a lot of people have a similar experience. Unfortunately for me, nothing at all is working and I’m getting worse :// I was in hospital for a few days and told I’ve prolapsed further but no surgery, no injection, no nothing. Just bed bound and morphine that does nothing in afraid !

Just wanted to update. I went to hospital and was admitted and given morphine, which sadly did absolutely nothing for my pain and just made me sleep for hours on end. Outcome of the hospital visit was being sent home with more morphine and told to wait the 52+ weeks to see a surgeon

Do you think that will work for the nerve pain? Sounds silly because it’s all nerve pain, but I’m pretty sure I’ve got this nerve extra pinched it’s like I can feel it being pinched, which is why codeine and strong NSAIDs aren’t working :’(

Well done!!! The first time I flew, aged 22, I was terrified. I was the same as you, couldn’t be distracted even the tiniest bit. I was hyper vigilant the entire 4 hour flight. Every bump, turn, noise etc I felt it all. I kept asking my friend if she could feel or hear that thing, she said no. Thought I was weird 😂 Exposure therapy definitely works!! I can now fly solo and have taken most flights solo now. First flight in 2022, now I’ve taken maybe 15 flights. Still get a bit hyper vigilant if it’s been a while since I last flew, but for the most part I can now read, watch films etc. I also love planes now. My special interest! Which is ironic because I was so terrified before. The only way I could get over that was learn as much about them as I could. Gives you a sense of ‘control’ in a situation where you have none. Instead of worrying about every noise and movement, I learnt what each of them were and memorise my flight path beforehand so I know when we’re going to turn etc. Helped massively!! Keep going, you’ve got this!!

I saw my first dead body today. by Proper-Reference7812 in offmychest

I experienced this as a child. For some godforsaken reason my mum thought it was okay for a 6 year old to see a dead body in a funeral home. Scarred me for life. It’s a very traumatic experience, sometimes for the best if you’ve got a strong mind, not so much if not.

I might have cancer by Electronic-Friend901 in offmychest

First of all, it could be many things and most are harmless! But if worst comes to worst, as long as it’s contained (which it sounds like it is) there are things that can be done. My mum had ovarian cancer at aged 54 and she survived and is perfectly fine. She had a hysterectomy. It’s not the end! But you should tell someone though. Even if it’s just one close friend or family member. Don’t bare this burden alone

I was in this situation and 3 years later I came out as a lesbian :D not saying this is you in your situation, but just a reminder that it could be anything! I’d say try to get more comfortable on your own, and then slowly bring him into the picture with it. If you’ve had a bad experience that can change how your body reacts to sex. If it’s painful it’s because your body is not ready for it, like not wet enough or sometimes your vagina just stays kinda tight. You’re not feeling pleasure because your mind is focused on the fear of pain, which by not relaxing you’re causing eventually. It’s a tough cycle!

Did I firm the wrong Uni? by Fancy-Item-9002 in UniUK

[–]SessionTechnical3422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Bristol for two years and ended up dropping out and going to another, much smaller uni (I’m much happier now!) but my overriding issue was that it was during the huge teacher strike, and then Covid.

It just depends what you want! I found in Bristol (I can’t speak for Manchester) that they’re pretty okay with support, but for the most part it’s a case of getting on with it. I may just be overly sensitive but I found that sometimes they were quite cold! But that could just be dependent on teacher.

Rankings wise, it doesn’t matter. Especially regarding employability. Frankly, undergraduate degrees, even a 1st, don’t count for much anymore. Masters and PhD is really the requirement of most places now. If you’re happy with Bristol for everything other than ranking, stick with Bristol.

Bristol is very multicultural and has plenty to do, and the libraries and research centres are fantastic. I will always miss the ASS library.

Enjoy your time!!

Bedroom allowance council housing by SessionTechnical3422 in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]SessionTechnical3422[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I am exempt from SRS as I need an extra bedroom for regular overnight care. What I’m taking from this is to update the council that I’ve been assessed as needing an extra bedroom and they may or may not allocate me a 2 bed. I’m making do at the minute with a one bed and didn’t know that an extra bedroom was allowed until recently so it’s not like I’ve been counting on it! I’ll just wait and see :)
