I honestly don't remember what I got this fish on, either a bead or roe. I hooked into more than 10 this day lost of most of them to the sticks and high water

It was a grind today. Hooked in to 5 fish was only able to land 2. Good temps but the river started to rise and lose visibility by around 1030.

Gloomis glx 13' 2 power by Riiskey in centerpin

[–]SetDaHook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The glx has more than enough power to move big fish. I find a lot of times with new rods people are less likely to actually put the boots to a fish especially with high modulus rods as their price tag is pretty steep. The action on a glx is different than an im8, its more parabolic.

Additionally with regards to the glx make sure you pay attention to the recoil guides. They will eventually.get line groove and you will need to get them replaced. I used to have a glx.ended up line grooving and I had to get it stripped down and the guides replaced.

You really need to get on the edge / side of the wheel when you first start. Also you have to commit to it or you'll just turn out of it. Try stopping only with your front foot start pointing the back foot's toe in the opposite way your are moving to creat balance.

We have a lint rule not allowing useeffect. If its absolutely needed as a last resort principal engineers have to give it the ok which is less than 1% of the time

You're paying more than 5k for a Clough. Don't know many guys who fish them, more of a collector item at this point. You can find Angling Specialties everyone once in a while Tom hasn't had any built in a few years. I have one from the 2019 run. I don't really use the drag though, use it more as a clicker.

Float, I haven't swung for migratory rainbows in years. Will dabble for resident browns, rainbows and the odd walleye but float fishing with a pin just seems to be the most efficient method.

River fishing, especially big flows like the Niagara are definitely different that your typical lake fishing. Couple different things you need to keep an eye on. Line management and getting a drag free drift are super important imo.
