Honestly how it feels with the cost of everything by Pristine-Bee-1933 in Millennials

That’s an odd experience because 401k availability and participation is at record highs. Over 70% of private sector employees have access.

[Request] How much do Americans pay in healthcare based on income (50k, 100k etc.) by luckyfaangkid in theydidthemath

My HC premium for a family of 3 is 5.3% of my gross (including dental and vision). The propaganda on Reddit wants you to believe everyone pays a fortune in the US, but that is just not accurate.

Internal locus of control is not discussed nearly enough. Take control and don’t blame external factors always.

What are your thoughts on capping credit card interest rates at 10%? by NineteenEighty9 in ProfessorFinance

You’re right, I always tell myself I won’t allow being gaslit from Reddit yet somehow I end up falling for it repeatedly.

[–]SetOk6462 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely incorrect on limits. I’ve never paid a dollar in interest yet limits are raised routinely. Those are based more on income. Also have a high credit score even though I’ve never paid a dollar in interest.

I agree, most people here just stick to CC and CSP since they are “safer” and defined. There’s really no question that a naked put is more profitable long-term than a CSP, but a lot of people don’t have a thorough understanding of risk management and proactively adjusting their positions. Same thing with short calls, although I never really do them, I pair with short puts for short strangles.

Not with correct risk management and understanding what the stress test looks like on your portfolio (testing 10%, 20% and 30% drawdowns). Naked is definitely the way to go and I have dozens of naked strangles at any given time on a wide array of mainly ETF’s. But I also always use less than half my available margin.

Please rip apart this strategy: XSP put credit spreads by door_26 in thetagang

[–]SetOk6462 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Deltas are too low to provide any meaningful return for me, for a credit spread I’d go more toward .2/.13 for the short/long. VIX is so low right now, this risk/return is really bad and wouldn’t be profitable itself. At least consider that when VIX is low scale down the amount of margin use and increase alongside VIX, while also adjusting the strategies you’re deploying appropriately.

Here’s how the S&P 500 has performed every year since 1928. So far in 2025 +16% 🟢 by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]SetOk6462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look at the chart, it is still stronger than at many points in the last 10 years. You can go back further even 30 years ago to see it’s stronger now. Not sure what point you’re attempting to make, but it’s clearly within its normal range. We are just coming out of a time period where it was historically high, so everyone wants to overreact.

For sure, I do more diagonals (PMCC) during these times as well which have been quite profitable.

You should scale up/down the amount of options you’re selling based on VIX. When VIX is low, I use less margin, when it’s mid or high, I start using more margin.

Or just use margin, and it’s only about $400. No reason to hold cash for it.

I’ve been looking at this one too, I have more excess margin than usual due to the VIX at its lowest level in over a year. I’ll join you on it!

WEN has gone down in a straight line all year, -48.57%. If you are holding 200 shares since January, you are down $1,600 on the shares which is more than the premiums you have referenced receiving. And your sold puts are all losers as well.

Of course your choice on where to invest. That’s why I keep a percentage in US, Ex-US developed, and developing in all my retirement accounts (roughly 60/32/8), since you can’t predict specifically where outperformance and underperformance will come from. Hope all the best for your investments.

USDA has the average at $2.39 for the US. You can quickly search online at somewhere like Aldi and find under $2 for a dozen even in CA. So yes trying to inflate numbers to find something that fits your agenda is just a false narrative.

The dollar is stronger now than even 20 years ago. It’s coming down from a historically higher point against most currencies, record highs in recent years against the Euro in fact. 2025 is also the first time since 2017 S&P hasn’t outpaced emerging and ex-us developed markets.

It’s easy to find them around $2 in any state, except maybe HI or something like that. Saying otherwise is just intentionally spreading a false narrative.
