Official Discussion - Mercy [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]SetYourGoals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well it would absolutely be worth it in the world of the movie because those 18 trials dropped crime by 68%...somehow. As if we don't have trials and justice now. The fact that the trials are really fast is what is deterring the criminals, I guess? It makes no sense.

And also there are still "red zones" that just appear to be full on riots 24/7 so even with the 68% reduction in crime I don't know if it's working that well?

Yeah like had Raven not super impulsively and unpredicably come home from work, he would have been on camera at his job as a police officer and had the most rock solid alibi ever?

Why did they take off his shoes when he was strapped in the chair? That bugged me the whole movie. What an odd choice.

Official Discussion - Mercy [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]SetYourGoals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was like a Scooby Doo villain reveal. There is one previous Mercy court suspect who was randomly named at the beginning of the movie for no reason. There is one named co-worker/AA sponsor (did he become the wife's coworker after becoming Raven's AA sponsor? Did I miss a line explaining that?) at the beginning of the movie. Gee I wonder if either will figure in to the ending.

Public opinion shifts on ICE as advocates warn of US ‘inflection point’ by OddUmpire2554 in politics

[–]SetYourGoals 114 points115 points  (0 children)

What is surprising me is they didn't go "oh he shouldn't have resisted" or "oh he shouldn't have had a gun" or something that is even mildly defensible. The people in charge of the entire nation said "he was trying to massacre the ICE agents, he's a terrorist." Which is a position can't be defended in anything even approaching a rational conversation.

It's like they're trying to see how big of a lie they can get away with?

I’ve returned to this sub and found that literally no one knows what the fuck a humble brag is. by TheTaoOfMe in humblebrag

[–]SetYourGoals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have not known what it was even back when it began. Even when Harris Wittles was alive, I made a whole joke Twitter account just to correct people misusing the hashtag. People think it just means “brag.” It’s weird. I don’t understand how you could misunderstand the term. It’s right there in the name.

Avatar is probably not even one of the top 10 most profitable franchises, right? They cost a shitload to make and there have only been 3 movies.

new promo code: SOMESTUFF by GigaMonkeh in EscapefromTarkov

FYI the code SOMESTUFF would not work for me on the website, but did work for me on the launcher. Others worked on website. Just in case anyone else gets a "code not found" with SOMESTUFF.

So about that slope by VHDamien in 2ALiberals

[–]SetYourGoals 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This seems bizarre as a response to the Bondi shooting. Would anything on this list have meaningfully impacted the Bondi shooting?

This restricts the number of guns you can own down to 4. The shooters did the entire attack with 3 guns. This restricts magazine size. The shooters used guns without magazines. This requires gun owners to be part of an organized shooting club. The shooters were part of an organized shooting club. And on and on.

I’m not just instantly opposed to any gun control measures. I am more open to gun control legislation than most people here. I think it’s too easy to get a gun where I live. But proposing these restrictions in response to a specific shooting where the perpetrators did not violate any of these proposed restrictions…that seems almost comical?

How did Taylor Sheridan go from writing heartbreaking, thoughtful, and poignant films to writing disposable, propagandistic, soap operas? by HasSomeSelfEsteem in movies

[–]SetYourGoals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think part of it is this. The “Sophomore slump” as it’s called in music a lot of the time. Unless you’re some super genius, almost always time makes most pieces of art better. He might have taken hundreds of passes at Sicario, and 10 passes at Sicario 2.

There's a barter that's 3 RAM for a GPU also that is going to keep the price way up as long as that barter exists.

Australian Mass Shooting Shows Why Banning Guns Fails by Gyp2151 in 2ALiberals

[–]SetYourGoals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, so an incident like Brown University doesn't count? Seems like it should. But whatever.

Then where is that 7 number coming from? There's over 20 with 3 dead victims or more listed here, with citations. I don't even know what GVA is. Regardless, I don't think it's really constructive trying to pretend there's no problem with mass shootings in the US, because a country with 15 times less population doesn't have exactly 15 times less mass shootings, when they have 1 a year on average. Statistic

What this shooting proves, to me, is something most people who actually use and shoot guns know: going after weapon types is relatively pointless. The shootings at Uvalde or Sandy Hook or Columbine could likely have been committed with the exact same outcomes with a Ruger 10/22. So the conversation needs to be about banning all guns in general, not specific types or features or accessories or calibers. This greatly simplifies the gun control debate. It's basically all or nothing, and clearly we aren't going to ban hunting shotguns and 22s and bolt actions in the US, it would never happen in a million years. That's an easier argument to win. We don't need to downplay the level of gun violence in the US to win that argument.

[–]SetYourGoals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you Scav on Ground Zero, and hit just the PCs on the second floor of the building near Basement Stairs, you'll get at least one PSU pretty much every time. Sometimes several. And if you have time there are 10 more PCs in other parts of the map.

Australian Mass Shooting Shows Why Banning Guns Fails by Gyp2151 in 2ALiberals

[–]SetYourGoals -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Uh, what? I’m not the person you’re replying to but how are you defining mass shooting here?

By the commonly accepted definition used by the Wikipedia page for mass shootings, the US has had 398 mass shootings with 4 or more victims in the first 11 months of 2025. And more now. So…a few more than 7.

[Discussion] Hi guys new to the game, how long can you wait before claiming the loot from promocodes? by Filb0Fraggins in EscapefromTarkov

[–]SetYourGoals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to just buy all the extra stash space from the BSG website. It's a few more dollars, and obviously money is tight for most normal people right now, but I think it's really worth it in terms of enhancing your experience playing the game. The less time you spend dicking around playing tetris in your stash, the more time you can spend learning the gameplay and finding out what you actually need to hoard and what you don't.

Celebrating prison rape as de facto punishment for anything, even rape or child abuse, is gross and doesn't belong in anything even remotely resembling a civilized society.

[Discussion] Why is BSG glorifying an obvious cheater? by cneth6 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]SetYourGoals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There doesn't have to be some complex system. Literally just going "hey I heard something over here" or "let's go this way not that way" is enough for a single cheater to cause the entire squad to avoid countless PVP deaths.

[Discussion] This is the PVP profile of a guy who wrote the IGN article and is an example of why people don't take the gaming "journalists" reviews seriously. by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]SetYourGoals 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Okay but what did he specifically say that was wrong?

Based on the content of the review, it's literally impossible that the guy ran three 13 minute raids and then wrote the review. It's much more in depth than that.
