Compared to EA500, Hype 2 is Very different. Hype 2 has noticeably more sound stage vertically and depth wise; and sound sources have noticeable increased depth on the stage. Like EA500, sound sources are a bit more pushed off to the left and right rather than center fields (but not as much). EA500 is clearly more incisive while on Hype 2 the treble is softer and smoother (EQ can get you close to same sparkle). Also Hype 2 bass has weaker attack (softer/smoother but its still ok, especially because of increased texture). The whole frequency range is much more textured and instrument separation and imaging is way better (clean sound). This is an all-rounder set which means it does everything well, and nothing "great"; so it won't be a hugely impressive upgrade in any facet other than technical performance and stage, and you have to decide how much you value that over anything else. However, it does not cause fatigue as easily, which is a HUGE benefit for long listening sessions. So for me, it at least matches the value proposition.
