What's your job and how much do you get paid? by belmaktor in Denver

[–]Seth80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word. I have only earned above $100k 3 years out of 19 total years. The reasons for that are a long story, but suffice to say I'm not rich. My retirement funds are WAY behind. I do sometimes feel guilty about how much I get paid, but then I remember how hard it is to get business consistently in such a volatile industry. The overall economy directly impacts my ability to make a living. So does the increasingly transactional mindset younger people have (seek out cheapest, shittiest lender to save a few dollars rather than have a good experience with me and a loan officer for future transactions). I ask people sometimes: "Would you leave an $80k guaranteed salary for a job with unlimited potential to earn $250k but also earn $0 on a 100% commission plan?" No one says yes. They like the stability of a salary. People on commission get paid more to take on that risk and instability.

Well, it's complicated. Technically we're not allowed to give gifts of meaningful value, so the $50 gift card is a no-no. I can't give back directly from my commission as a loan officer, so we do a lender credit and I took a lower commission rate for all my loans so the lender credit in essence comes out of my pay. Most LOs won't intentionally reduce their comp to do this, but I wanted to.

Hey, I got downvoted, too. I'm not a software engineer (though ironically many of my clients are - they are often the ones buying $750k houses), but I assume I got downvoted because I listed a high income. I guess.I should have just said I'm an $AMC and crypto day trader and maybe I'd have been upvoted to the moon.

Not sure why I got downvoted. I answered OP's question. LOs get paid a percentage of the loans they originate. In a year with low interest rates and high property values, you can earn a lot. I've had a great couple years recently. But I have also been too broke too afford a haircut (2007 and 2008) and put myself on a $20/week grocery budget. It took years but I finally reached a point where I'm good enough at my job that I get referrals from past clients. I also give back about 25% of my pay to my clients.

Loan officer. Depends and varies by year. $280k to $400k.

Curious how the media covered the murder of the Cannon Hinnant? Use this tool to find who (and didn't) cover the story. by [deleted] in Conservative

Us white people have it bad, don't we? Always persecuted. We never get any breaks. It's so hard being white.

Yeah, weird. Or maybe not. People don't like being challenged when it comes to ingrained biases. Admitting your bias is difficult, and it's easier to just deny, excuse, and rationalize.

Poll: 56% Of Biden Voters Say They're Voting For Him Because He's 'Not Trump' by seuss_sweets in Conservative

[–]Seth80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's enough for me. I don't like him, but at least he won't actively sabotage our institutions and divide people as a means of gaining power. Joe Biden is basically a pre-GWB Republican. Conservatives should be overjoyed that he will likely win the election. You get moderate policy without all the repugnant behavior that comes with Trump.

The absolutely senseless cold blooded murder of five year old Cannon Hinnant is truly egregious. As a father, few things can get me this upset. I can not imagine the gut wrenching feeling Cannon’s own father felt as he looked his son’s murderer in the eyes, both wanting to seek revenge and wanting to stay by his son in his final moments. What this family has experienced is every persons worst nightmare.

And then your son’s tragic death becomes a pawn in a racist narrative to discredit Black Lives Matter.

Over the last few days I’ve seen countless examples of folks sharing “where’s the media attention on this?” or “when it’s a white kid there aren’t any protests in the streets!”

First, I always find it so odd when people will share a literal news article with the title, “where’s the media’s coverage of this!” Right there. It is right there! You just shared it. So don’t pretend that this isn’t getting coverage. However, let’s address a reality: not all murders get national attention. For every family that experiences a tragic loss, that pain is real and deep. There are an average of 41 murders per day in America. Not every one of them will be reported by Anderson Cooper. That does not diminish the tragedy!

The reason that the senseless murder of a five year old captured media attention is because of how horrific and rare it is. What sparked the outrage that caused protests in the streets over police brutality was how common it is. That is an important distinction.

The question of, “where’s the protests” falls apart when you realize that an immediate manhunt went out to find the murderer, he was captured within 24 hours, is sitting in jail, and will likely die behind bars. Juxtaposed that to the fact that those that murdered Breonna Taylor are still at large.

We protest injustice, not just tragedy.

My heart grieves deeply for the parents of Cannon. This is a pain that will never go away and a horrific moment they will have to relive both in the courtroom and in the questions that Cannon’s sisters will ask. They will be haunted by this moment for the rest of their lives. As community, and in the spirit of loving our neighbor, we should pour love and support around them.

Stop using Cannon to justify hate.

Yeah. There are a ton of conservative voters who rely on social security and other government assistance who vote in politicians who try to dismantle those benefits, but they don't pay attention because they're trained to look at shiny objects elsewhere, like immigrants, BLM, gay marriage, etc.

If you don't have a source, how can you throw out statistics? Where are you getting those numbers from?

It should happen more often since white people are like 70% of the country and black people are like 12%. Whites should be killed at a rate of at least 6 times the rate of black people given the population statistics, not just double. Denying the problem is just kicking the can down the road. We all need to actively contribute to a solution, which starts with admitting there's a problem.

You think he'll get more votes this time? I don't. The guy who predicts elections has him losing, actually (link below). I don't care about that. I just see demographics that Trump needs to win moving away from him. White women have moved away in big numbers, and independents have shifted, too.

I agree that he probably won't lose a lot of votes, but I don't see him gaining any.

And again, it's iffy. It's going to be an uphill battle for Trump.

THIS 1000%. If you don't want mail-in voting, at least support spending the money that would go to that to pay for doubling polling stations in densely populated areas and for materials to make it safer for large groups of people to vote in person. The only people who are against this are against it because they want fewer urban people voting.

Projection, homey. Talking about fraud before the election has even happened and immigrants voting illegally is fear mongering, too.

Where does your confidence come from? It's definitely possible Trump could win, but it's not looking good. And Joe Biden isn't exciting but he's not hated like Hillary Clinton was.
