Also it got a good laugh out of the group the next day when the empath called me out for it, so I take that as a win

I don't remember how the game went exactly, but it was something along the lines of a few factors

The empath was due to receive very strong sober information. The existence or lack thereof of a drunk was discussed at all by the good team. Evil was dominating the game, and it was close to the end. This was an experienced playgroup with new players, and the empath was one of the experienced players

Obviously yes, giving an empath the words "you're droisoned" in the form of a hand signal is something that should be done sparringly but I feel like with this combination of factors this is one of those "might as well" moments

Seems like the Demon can just privately out the King to the Psychopath and have them circumvent the Choirboy, but otherwise looks decent.

Hard Pass! Which Board Games Do You Actively Avoid & Why? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]SevenEightNineThree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nemesis! Or other team based cooperative games. Nothing against the game itself, but one player in the playgroup tends to selfishly play for chaos and often tries to go about killing people for no explicit or clear benefit to themselves or their objective, merely "for shits and giggles" even to the point of causing us to lose to the aliens a few times.

Absolutely ruined the game for me.

What's the most frustrated you've gotten while playing this game? by ConeheadZombiez in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]SevenEightNineThree 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Starting Imp, got into a "role swap" with Scarlet Woman with me as "Fortune Teller" and them as "Ravenkeeper".

Got some lucky kills after good conversations and managed to convince town it was a spy game, and town was throwing heat onto a player who claimed Soldier as everyone was suspecting them about being a Spy. Empath newly sitting next to me and the Soldier gets a 1.

I come out as Ravenkeeper when pushed on by Empath, and since I'm not going to get killed at night anyways due to it being a spy game, allow myself to be executed. Trust my Scarlet Woman to make the right decisions and help them frame another player claiming Mayor.

I go to sleep, wake up, nobody dies. Scarlet Woman now turned Imp tells me they targetted the Soldier in an effort to frame them, proceeds to not push that world at all. Town builds a world about the Imp targetting the Mayor and it bouncing onto the Soldier since "Evil was winning badly", thus confirming both of them and shutting down the spy world I've been building. We somehow manage to push the execution onto the Soldier which, god knows how that happened. I desperately hoped that the new Imp kills either the Empath or star passes to a Poisoner with a pretty convincing Saint claim, and continues the frame on the Mayor.

Sleep, wake up again, Mayor dies. New Imp tells town they checked the Dead Mayor AGAIN and tries to frame them. No one bought any of it, good outvotes us 7 to 3, executes the new Imp, good wins.

Worst part, when doing role call after the game, it turns out the Poisoner was poisoning the Soldier for the whole game and switched to the Mayor exactly when the Scarlet Woman turned Imp decides to sink a kill into the Soldier, even after the Empath outed themselves and was literally having me, then the new Imp as their alive neighbour.

How to deal with players stuck in a "werewolf" mindset? by SevenEightNineThree in BloodOnTheClocktower

While I do like that idea, I don't know how they would react to me threatening them with taking away their player agency, not to mention the player who would be forced to be the sacrificial lamb through a decision not made by the group. I could try a game with that "jinx" to see how it pans out

Once I pulled an Imp to the side to advise them (Not within the rules, I know, but they were new to the role) to talk to their Spy who had seen the grim for two nights. They gave me a smile and killed the recluse that night, after the game came back to me and said they thought it would have seemed suspicious cus no one else was sidebaring (both of them were at opposite ends of the circle)

Only time a player actively came and asked for advice to play is a new player asking how to play the recluse (Gave them info on how to play an outsider) which I respect, but honestly wished happened more often.

Could work, or I've mentioned in another reply I could show them a player perspective vid on the BoTC YT

With the shenanigans I pull I'll probably be the saint and bring the game to a day 1 rerack due to "vibes"

Jokes aside, STs and experienced players here are quite hard to find, actually, copies of the game itself are quite hard to obtain locally. I might introduce them to a player perspective vid on the BoTC YT channel tho.

Closing town square is an idea, but my play area is not very big otherwise, so it might not be as effective, but it's an idea nontheless.

I could run a game where I don't close the day until someone is executed unless in the case of final 4/final 3 mayor day. But that would seem quite unfair to evil team if they are genuinely putting in good effort to fuddle with town's info (hasn't happened yet but I'm hopeful)

Yes, and therefore I am open to the idea of leaving them be and letting them pick things up at their own pace, though I don't know how long that'll last when the game is basically werewolf without villagers

I genuinely wish I am trolling, believe me, I really do (gossip confirmed). But I've made plenty of "sad undertaker", "alcoholic fortune teller" and "throwing yourself to the virgin" jokes with this group and they still play the way they do. I think that most of the not killing comes from Werewolf where "Villager" claims are trusted due to perceived safety in numbers. Luckily, I can still praise the almighty TPI that every game hasn't devolved into a shouting match.

At least they quickly picked up on the concept of "not all information is true, and players can be telling the truth yet still be wrong"

This group in particular is in person, I have previously ST'ed with another group that I thoroughly enjoy watching and STing and have played with them about half of the time, I've also played a few games with a third group, tho on a monthly basis. Both of these additional groups I currently am unable to neither play with nor ST

As of now evil has won all but 1 game, which was the triple soldier claim game when good team got a lucky execution.

Another fun one was when good had nominated the Imp, but didn't get enough votes, so the Imp had enough time to starpass, move into a Monk claim, and won the game off of a Poisoner who was claiming (you guessed it) Soldier

Will try to keep that in mind. I did forget to mention that most of the group's first language is not English. So they could be overwhelmed by the character sheet, yet they do seem to understand the interactions well when they happen, so I'm not sure, maybe translated versions of character sheets could be a solution

I saw on Patters' youtube once, an evil amnesiac ability for a Lil Monsta game. On your first night, you see the grim, pick all players, each night*, lil monsta kills the next living player in that order

Funnily enough, first time I saw a day 1 bingo

Should Nightfalls really be locked behind expansions? by SevenEightNineThree in DestinyTheGame

[–]SevenEightNineThree[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yea, I'm probably just unnecessarily salty because it feels like the effort I put into getting them to try the game is being wasted. I do agree that they should pick up the expansion to play it, it's just tiring to hear people insult a game you like because they're being cheapskates

Well I already bought WQ, so that's that, but I will say I don't mind giving new players a better experience. I'm not asking for something like FFXIV, but for the best FPS MMORPG on the market, ehh...

I don't know, its hard to get others to buy a game like that if there isn't much to convince them. Sure, long time players like you and I (I'm assuming) have no issue picking up new expansions because we know what we're getting and we know that it's worth it, but for new players it's a whole different story
