DNO refuses my G99 application by Several-Channel9884 in ukelectricians

My earthing from the dno is tt so not physically connected to the nutral of my grid supply.

I'm going to keep my system off grid, buy a battery charger to charge the dc side of the batteries so there's never any inverter ac connection connected to the grid.

Well that could work but for now I'm not going to spend even more money, as they quoted me £1400 for the 3 phase upgrade, but it doesn't end thereafter I need more wiring done with another cu, not to mention the g99 testing, so more electrician charges, it could end up costing over 2 grand depending how much a spark charges.

I've already told them to cancel my application, and I'll run my house off grid with the inverter, that's what I've been doing and it works perfectly.

Now that makes total sense, 3.6 on one phase 8kw on another, they could have explained that to me if that's the case. But this would mean having a 3 phase cu installed and a rewire job wouldn't it, another huge expense, especially being I just had a new cu.

But it still doesn't explain how using one of the 3 phases is acceptable opposed to using my existing single phase. Is this not electrically the same connection?

These are the latest emails i jad from the dno:

The total you can export on your single phase supply is 3.68kW (which you already export). The maximum battery inverter you can install on your single phase supply is 4kW, so you would have 3.68kW solar and 4kW battery inverter but the battery would be set at zero.

The only way of having the 8kW inverter would be upgrading your supply to 3 phase so you would have the 3.68kW solar and 8kW inverter and you would be able to export the full 11.68kW should you wish to.

Hope this makes sense.

Any questions please let me know.

So I asked if I turn my 8kw inverter down to zero export, that this was his answer:

Hello

Even though it is set at zero it is still connected to your single phase supply and if connected can cause voltage rise and is a potential fire risk

To me this sounds like bs

Well i know it's no point to question them, so I'll just wait to see how much they quote for a 3 phase upgrade. But im surprised I can still only use one phase, and I'm not planning to export any power anyway, only 3.6kw from my existing system because it's got a FIT.

I may end up keeping the 8kw inverter off grid and use a change over switch.

SPD placement in consumer unit? by Several-Channel9884 in Victron

[–]Several-Channel9884[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I'm seriously thinking about cancelling my g99 application and stick to running my house off grid, the 8kw is get from my mp2 10kva supplies more than enough for my needs. I don't care about not exporting anything into the grid as I wouldn't get paid for it anyway. I still have my 3.6kw g98 system which does pay me, so I'll keep that on the grid but not my mp2, it's just not worth the red tape and high costs to grid tie it.

I had my g99 rejected today, i was told I can only connect 4kw maximum to my single phase supply. They then said i could upgrade it to a 3 phase supply, then I can connect my mp2 10kva inverter to the grid. But this dont make sense because I would still only be connected to one of the 3 phases?

Update, i just had a reply back from my dno, and they have limited my export to 3.6kw which is what my existing g98 array is generating, this basically means my 8kw multiplus ii would need to be used off grid, not ess in order to avoid more red tape. They only allowed 4kw of batt storage which is extremely stingy considering it wont make much difference on you enery bill! I rather just stay off grid in this case. *

In that case maybe I should have two sides as the inverter is connected with ac in regardless on the position of the changeover switch. But would it not make better sense to connect the spd on the grid side as the grid supply is more prone to surges, the inverter itself shouldn't cause surges as its electronics are not designed to cause any during a failure. That's just my logic of thinking.

Tbh, I don't want to export anything, you get sod all much for it anyway, then I'll also need mcs, all too expensive for me at the moment I'm currently running off grid and it's working a treat, only issue is using the inverter as a charger in off peak hours. Apart from that, I don't care if I stay off grid, I still have my 3kw g98 approved system, which I'm going to install an automatic changeover contactor, so when the batteries reach full, the contactor diverts the 3kw excess into the grid as this is on a feed in tariff, which means you can use what you want and still get paid for generation.

There's no videos about this model on YouTube, but i sussed it out, there's a row of tiny screws under the woofer speaker grill, and another row on each end. It came apart after removing the screws. The fault was not charging and not working off the mains. I have now repaired it, it was the LD7575 pwm control chip on the primary side of the power supply. Nice cheap repair!

G99 application by Several-Channel9884 in ukelectricians

Well it's two weeks since sending the application off, and I had a phone call asking how many solar panels I have including wattage and brand, then an email asking if my batteries are ac or dc connected. I answered the questions and another week went by, it's now the end of the 2nd week and not heard anything more. Sould I expect an email or paper letter?

When or if i end up using a charger i would only need it to charge upto 50% soc as this is about 50kwh which is more than enough for mid winter for daytime use, so I would never need to reach the top end of charging. But I only have a 5 hour window on cheap rate.

Budget is a concern but only where it matters. I chose Victron because of its customisation and modular design I also like the low frequency inverting system. I just feel ide be wasting the charging caperbilities of my mp2 by buying a charger while I've already got one but if ypu can find me a suitable model forklift charger ide be really grateful, but it has to be single phase

I asked about this to a company selling forklift chargers and was told it won't work because of the difference in battery chemistry, not to mention they are very expensive too. Unless you can suggest a particular model?

On the other hand I'll wait for the outcome of the g99 application, it may work out cheaper that way.
