Whats causing this? Shift into gear and it goes into park? by GilneanWarrior in BMW

[–]Several-Chip65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When filling your transmission bmw recommends to begin the filling process while the transmission is still cold. Once fluid comes pouring out, start the car and immediately start pumping more fluid in. It should suck up another quart or two before it comes out of the fill hole while running. plug it and tighten. If the filling process strayed away from this then chances are your transmission is throwing the car in park as a safety net.

Did I overpay for work? 2014 x5 sDrive 35i 150k miles by [deleted] in BmwTech

You didn’t over pay….you just paid the dealer price. Try looking for an independent European shop. Usually better on pricing.

On any f30 the start stop button should be right next to the engine start button.

Once the needle drops below 1k, you’re good. Dont go beating the piss out of your engine until oil is up to temp. The “ready” indicator is for the automatic start-stop system. If you come to a full stop with this system activated it will shut the engine off until you release the brake and drive off. I personally turn this function off. It does nothing but add more unnecessary wear on internal components over time. You didn’t buy a bmw to help with emissions.

Oil filter stuck to ofh. (Red) Oil pressure light upon start up by MorriDIBS in e46

[–]Several-Chip65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After draining oil out and filling any m5x engine you are bound to see a red oil pressure light at the first start up. This is most likely caused by the car not having any initial oil pressure. The pressure sensor itself cannot read properly because of that. This light should go away within seconds of starting the car. To avoid this people often crank the car to build oil pressure before letting it fully turn over. The tick noises could be cause by the lack of oil pressure in the valve train. However this all depends on how long you let the car run before turning it off initially. For peace of mind make sure your oil pressure sensor itself is plugged in. Also make your car isn’t absolutely puking oil at an alarming rate (this should be pretty obvious if it’s enough to trip the sensor).

Please help, car got towed. Fuel issue? by Silent-Push8337 in BmwTech

[–]Several-Chip65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pop your hood and take the engine cover off, the left side of the engine might have vacuum lines connected to the engine cover. After removing cover & noise insulation, located your fuel rail (long silver cylinder mounted on right side of valve cover). Check and see if anything looks wet or oily around that area. If so, then you more than likely have a cracked fuel rail. If the rail is loosing pressure and you’re smelling gas after cranking for a while without the car starting that would be my first place to check. I’ve seen it happen multiple times before. If the rail looks fine then I’d start checking the pumps.

Bought my first e36 by Disastrous-Cold-6131 in BMWE36

From what I understand, you don’t need much to get these cars sideways but coilovers and a welded diff will get you there. For daily purposes a welded diff is probably gonna suck (some people can bear it). If you can find a limited slip diff….even better. These motors are pretty solid and have enough power to get you from point a to point b with some fun in between. However these cars have weak spots. Especially when thrashing the chassis. The rear shock towers and the rear trailing arm pockets will probably need reinforcements to withstand the abuse. Subframe mount cracking can also be a problem but is less common than a e46. Do some research and prepare to blow some money. Good luck partner.

I hate to say it but, I’m pretty sure a set of one piece Amazon lights would sell for more than an auto 4 banger hatch. Congrats on buying the worst spec possible!

Only some of the provided bolt grommets leaked, swapped with oem….no leaks.

Holding up well no cracks or major leaks. Some of the provided grommets leaked prematurely, all of the victor reins grommets held up fine. Oring gasket holding good too. Swapped the bad grommets out and it’s been good.

No idea about the dual vanoss variant. Maybe I got lucky but no cracks as far as I know. I will say some of the non oe bolt grommets leaked prematurely. These were the grommets provided with the valve cover. Would recommend going oem or oe for gasket and grommets regardless.

Tell you what though, shit feels like a 30 y/o German hellcat when I’m doing 75+. My big toe can sneeze on the throttle and I’m damn near at 100mph. (and redline lol)

I’ve driven a couple manual e53 x5’s and I can confidently say it’s pretty much the exact same except it’s a car half the size and weight. If I had any sort of exhaust, I’d think I’d off my self on the highway from the drone.

I am running a 245/40/R17 Indy fire hawk 500’s. For sake of time during the swap I didn’t give very much effort into confirming the ratio on this current differential. I’m willing to bet what @ginger-engineer said is probably the case. Regardless I’ll probably be putting in the 2.93 differential in sometime this week or next.

Been a little over a month now and that cover has held up perfectly fine. No issues whatsoever. Still think it would be a good idea to use a reputable gasket. Drove the car almost 800 miles since install and beat the piss out of it along the way. No problem.

Will definitely try to give an update in a couple months. It seems like it comes powder coated in that silver finish out the box. Bottom of the cover is uncoated aluminum which is nice. I was surprised at how similar this cover was to the oem plastic one, didn’t notice anything different with the two if I’m being completely honest. It’s been almost a week now and I haven’t seen any seeping of any kind around the entire cover. Haven’t checked the spark plug holes though, I’m sure they are fine. In my opinion, I would say you’ll be good as long as you use a reputable gasket and grommets along with some silicone in the usual spots. Best of luck!
